Mayweather vs Ortiz

Just watched it, and Mayweather is a punk in my book. What he did would be classified as legal but Ortiz got penalized for a headbutt. So when they rang the bell to fight again Ortiz walked up to hugged him and said sorry and then Mayweather just swung and KO'ed him. When Ortiz wasn't ready and the ref wasn't even looking.

Agreed. I don't know anything about boxing and don't really like it, but that was BS. From what I understand about boxing, when you reset (forgive my jargon), you tap gloves then back away then proceed with the fight. Mayweather hit him before they could back away.

Don't be naive. That was the second deliberate head butt and Ortiz got what he deserved.

Ortiz was outclassed anyways, he would have gotten murked either way.

I'm not talking about the head butt. That was illegal and that's why they stopped the fight. But even though legal, that was a cheap shot from Mayweather.

Both got what they got. Mayweather, no matter what you think of him, would outclass Pac-man. And I like Pacquiao, but Mayweather knows that Pacquiao comes to him.

I am sorry there is a reason Mayweather won't fight Pac-Man and it is not because of drug test. He wants to keep a perfect record not fight the best fighters to prove he is the best.

EDIT: There is a reason UFC is more popular and better to watch.

Ref says box on and Mayweather knocks him out is a cheap shot? Hardly, just inexperience by a young boxer and a ref who really should retire. If any you should be blaming the ref for not using the correct protocol. But when a ref says "fight on" what are you supposed to do? Not fight?

I'd take PacMan in a heartbeat at this stage of their careers...

Can't really hate on Mayweather. He knew what Ortiz was doing. And he took advantage.

Legal? Yeah. Cheap? Yeah.

Pac has a proven record against big name fighters

Mayweather.... Not so much.

Pac is "pound for pound" way stronger than Floyd

Floyd's best known fight was against his girlfriend

Mayweather is a better boxer than Pacquiao. You have to be able to hit Floyd in order to beat him. It's boxing, keep your guard up and fight. If you don't, you get knocked out!

So was Ortiz.. It's not a factor unless you can solidly land punches and thats why Floyd is successful. The guy is the best defensive fighter I've ever seen.

Mayweather beats De La Hoya at 154, Pac beats him at 145. That is a huge weight difference especially for De La Hoya who has fought as high as middle weight against Benard Hopkins.

Tell me what other big names has Pac fought?

Cotto? lol another fight where he they fought at 145 instead of 147 and had trouble making weight.

Margarito? lol 145, instead of 147 and had trouble making weight.

Marquez? big name that Mayweather made look foolish.

Mosley? Fought Mayweather leftovers.

Name some names and maybe you have an argument.

Are you really arguing that De La Hoya, Cotto, Margarito, Marquez, Mosely, Hatton, Barrera, Morales and Clottey aren't big names? Pacquiao has been the most dominant force in boxing for quite some time. To argue otherwise is borderline insane.

Is Mayweather a Hall of Fame fighter? Of course he is. He is one of the best fighters to ever walk the planet. So is Pacquiao.

A fight between the two would be biblical. Unfortunately, both are nearing the end of their careers. It needs to happen soon.

When/if that day comes, I will be an ardent supporter of Pac-Man knocking the ****-eating grin off of Floyd's no-class face.

What is this "boxing" you people refer to?....Is this some form of hand-to-hand combat I am unaware of? I thought that died off in the early 90's?....lol :)

Not arguing that they are not big names, but the BIG names are Mayweather leftovers like De La Hoya, Mosley and Hatton. I just don't see how Pac fought bigger names than Mayweather which was NDinFL's argument. Mayweather has fought as many if not more big name fighters than Pac. Just sayin.

Never said they weren't big names, just big names and Pac has a pretty good advantage. I would like to see Pac v Cotto 2 but at 147 this time. I think Cotto gave him a pretty good run until he started to make dumb mistakes. Both fighters faces were pretty swollen after that fight.

You want Manny to give up MORE weight to Cotto?? It looked like David v Goliath out there. That fight was totally one sided man... check out the official score cards.

Pacquiao-Cotto scorecards - Boxing - Yahoo! Sports

I love Cotto. He has always been one of my favorite fighters... but man he was outclassed.

The last 13 fighters that Paquiao has fought have been world champions at some point in their careers... he is 13-0 against them with 7kos. He fought those 13 fights at weights ranging from 128lbs to 150lbs. AMAZING.

Probably why in 2010 the Boxing Writers Association of America named him the "Fighter of the Decade"... Just sayin.

All of this doesn't detract from the fact that Maywaether is a world-class fighter. If I was betting, I can honestly say I don't know who I would take. I DO know who I would root for though.

Haha... NEVER!!!

Last year Manny tied ARod as the highest paid athlete in the world... a la espn.com. I believe at 32mil. That's not including endorsement deals etc.

How much did the top mma fighter make???

I like both fighters, but to me Mayweather fights without flaws. He may make 1 mistake the whole bout whereas Manny makes multiple mistakes. Technique, Mayweather has the advantage. Speed, Mayweather has the advantage. Hand speed, seems like a wash. Footwork, Mayweather has the edge. Power, goes to Manny.

There is a reason why Mayweather would be favored in the fight if the fight ever happens. Bodog released odds at they had Mayweather at -140. I tend to agree. Bigger, longer reach, faster, better technique, impenetrable defensive. It just amazes me how clueless fighters get when they step into the ring with this guy. It is as if they just learned how to box and nobody can figure him out.

And people who actually hate Mayweather are only buying into his marketing plan. He is an entertainer and knows the business of boxing. He puts on a show inside and outside of the ring. The guy is actually very nice. I met him in Vegas at the Nike store at Caesar's Palace and he is a great guy. What you see on camera is pretty much a show to feed his haters. I met Manny as well in Los Angeles at some store called Fred Segal and he is probably the nicest guys you will ever meet as well.

Regardless of who would win, why won't Mayweather man up and fight Pac-man?

He calls himself the best but ducks the best competition out there.
Calls himself money but will not take the huge payday?

What is he scared of?

Not sure if this is a rhetorical question but I'll answer it. From what I have heard Mayweather's camp thinks Pac-man take performance enhancing drugs so wants blood to be drawn for drug test.

Pac-man won't agree to it because drawing blood weakens you and Mayweather want's it to be a couple weeks before the fight. So now they won't agree on that.

That is just one of the things I have heard, not sure if it has been resolved and there are other issues. But I know that was one of them.

This is the issue perpetuated by the two camps... allegedly.

In my opinion, Floyd is afraid that he may get his first loss. He's never fought anyone like Pacquiao, a devastatingly powerful south paw with speed some say is comparable to "Money" himself.

What Mayweather is asking for (blood) is a more stringent policy than the Nevada State Athletic Commission requires of any of it's bouts. It's ridiculous.

Mayweather is a coward. Pac-Man is my hero.

After looking at this gif closer, I truly believe that this fight was fixed. Ortiz says something into Mayweather's ear and Mayweather nods in agreement right before he knocks him out.

From the perch outside in the tree...

From the perch outside in the tree...

I know a bit about ND Football, but I know a LOT about boxing. I lived through it's "Silver Era". I saw Tyson fight LIVE about three times here in Albany when he was on the way up. I've talked to Harold Lederman who scored some of the bouts, I has his autograph along with Ali's, "Machine Gun Buddy" Mcgirts, Tyson's, and my fave "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler. There wasn't a fight in the 80's I didn't see live or on PPV. I've only loved 2 fighters in my life, Ali and Hagler. Mayweather is doing to Paq what Leonard did to Hagler, waiting around, letting Paq fight wars and when the times is right he'll fight him. Pitty pat and slip and dodge (also known as ring generalship) and in the later rounds he'll move in for the kill.

I don't like Mayweather but I respect his abilities much like respected B-Hop and other "fighters". Paq is a fighter in the truest sense of the word. He's lost a couple and drew once I believe but he's a heart of iron and chin of chrome steel. His will is the X-factor. His will could pervail in the later rounds and force a decision. Or he could lose it like Duran did againslt Leonard in the second fight and quit trying to hit what he can't catch. It's a complete unknown, BUT if it happens I'll pay money to see it. If I had to bet money though... I wouldn't it's too close to call.
