Word of advice, don't do it. The only way to make it in the acting/movie business in general is to know or be directly related to someone who has already made it. If you have no connections you might as well buy lottery tickets.

Never be afraid to chase your dream. Persevere and keep trying. That being said, I would try Atlanta first. There is a very budding movie industry starting there. Atlanta has done a good job bringing movie companies there with low taxes and incentives. I have several friends who have done this and are meeting success. Once established there, you will have something on your resume to take to LA.

Resumes don't mean much in Hollywood in terms of landing acting gigs. Again it's all about connections and nepotism to even get a reading. If you are serious about this try and become a personal assistant to a lower tier celebrity, start making connections and begin climbing your way up the ladder. Another thing to consider is if you want to do straight acting or do you want to be a TV personality?

Anyhow, not saying success isn't possible (my younger brother went to college at UCSC and is friends with with one of the dudes from Lonely Island but even those guys got their big break vis a vis you tube) but it's about as competitive as pro sports for good/steady paying gigs. Also, the acting game and entertainment industry in general in Hollywood makes college football recruiting look like a Buddhist Monastery.
