Go after him (Mustain). He hasn't played football in years, force him to beat you. He'll throw INT's. If ND can gain momentum, she'll be tough to beat

I was thinking coverage to confuse him, plus it's easier to pick of passes in a zone.

Now Barkley may very well not play, but it seems like we have some rather short memories here guys... We had a pretty damn good QB last year who was often in a boot in between games - more to protect it than anything. Not saying he will play, but let's not rule it out just because he's in a boot - and crutches may just make it easier to move around (could be walking crutches).

yeah but having a bum toe is a lot different than a high ankle sprain. As I recall, Jimmy didn't need crutches to get around when he had the boot on.

If MB somehow is able to play on saturday, how can you expect him to play well if he hasn't been practicing all week? Kelly says the game on saturday is won at practice during the week. It's the preparation throughout the week that wins the game. Obviously, Kiffin doesn't take this approach...

I have had a few high ankle sprains in my lifetime and they hurt like hell. I honestly don't see any way he would be ready to play this Saturday. Mustain will start I am sure and we will see how prepared he will be when we come to town. We have got to get pressure on him early and often and get him a little rattled. GO IRISH!!!

We definitely need to hit Mustain hard and fast to keep him rattled .... the kid hasn't been playing much this year, he might come out strong - cause he's been treated like the red headed step child out here in Cali at SC, so he has alot to prove, and a great game vs ND would do that.

but after Mustain it's a pretty big drop off i guess (meaning QB's with playing time) ...... 3rd string Jesse Scroggins a True Fr., 4th string Jon Manoogian Soph. then guys like Brett Kan, Emon Saee who won't see the playing field.

Here's what I wrote in another thread about the SC game:

"I had a parent-teacher conference with my 'source' in the USC atheltic department yesterday (for those that don't know, she works for Pat Haden, and worked under Mike Garrett for years). She told me Barkley was out for ND and that Haden even called Mustain into his office for a chat yesterday. Now, this is not official and she could be wrong, but so far she has never steered me wrong regarding SC info."

Also, I can tell you from my buddy who used to watch SC practices when they were open to the public, is that the reason Mustain couldn't beat out Sanshez and then a freshman (Barkley) and a QB who was a mess and since transferred to a D1 school (Corp) was because he:

1) took a LONG time to learn the offense (his offense in college was basically a high school offense with 2 incredible running backs to hand off to in Jones and McFadden, and

2) The dude throws a ton of picks. Even this year, when I read the practice reports, he always seems to throw a pick in practice (as does Barkley, esp lately).

So, I think you get after Mustain and go get some picks, which you know he'll throw...

Just saw on ESPN that Barkley is trying to play on Saturday. I would love it if he tried to play on that ankle.

Any Defensive Coordinator worth his pay coaches the defense as if they're going to play the opponent's best. Then if the best doesn't show up, you should be doubly ready. And any Defensive Coordinator worth his pay creates a defensive game plan with a lot of mixed looks to it. Defense nowadays is half talent/skill and half confusion. I'd particularly never stay in one look all game against a guy lacking in gametime experience. Make his eyeballs cross, then the picks will come.
