Lmao bro they really thought the A&M win was Super Bowl worthy.. smh
Notre Dame is the sort of program that should not be getting over the moon about beating a middling SEC program with a new coach.
ND (good or bad) is always going to get the other team's best shot. It's a storied program, the chance to play at ND stadium is something every opposing player is excited about. Their parents come to this one if they can. A would bet a lot of opposing dads and players like ND and would have loved to play at ND. Some might call it the Mecca of CFB, i would say its the Vatican. The campus, the stadium, the tradition, all that...its a big deal to play a game there.
The other teams are gonna be amped. ND needs to be locked in for 12 weeks every year because they are objectively one of the opposing team's biggest games every year, whether ND is good or bad. The culture needs to be fixed. Marcus needs to fix it now.
This playing to opponent's level is awful. Idk what the fix is, it has been going on as long as I've been watching ND.
I think it boils down to offense. ND hasn't had an explosive offense since 2015 with Kizer. When you play offense the way ND does, it doesn't really allow for an off day. Different players/groups won't always play great. ND is conservative to the point it is killing us.
Not to open the yearbook, but I was pretty good at wrestling growing up. When I got on varsity in 8th grade, I adopted a super conservative style of wrestling to deal with older and stronger kids. I didn't ever really get away from it. It resulted in some great wins, but it also resulted in some head scratching losses. One week i'd beat or nearly beat state champions. The next i'd struggle or lose to someone who would not place at state. I was afraid of making mistakes, which itself is a mistake.
This is Notre Dame's problem too. Freeman seems scared of things going wrong. Cut these kids lose. Let them play. Get them ready to play. We can't score 14 points against MAC teams.
