Most of it has to do with playcalling, you hardly see ND call quick passes like crosses, slants or utilizing motion. A-lot of TE seem routes, corner routes to sideline. There’s ways to scheme guys open. Our first pass option is NEVER open va good defenses unless it’s quick screen, second option a lot of times is not open too, most yards are ad hoc
Wrs other than faison don’t even have a fake or hedge step in their arsenal, its like hop skip and go in a direction kinda like that one foot dumb drill he doesDoes anyone actually watch the WRs run routes?
Nobody gets open.
Tobias is worthless.
Greathouse can’t get separation.
Tyree is a gimmick receiver, who doesn’t run a full route tree.
Flores actually tries to get open, but he is a possession receiver.
Staes is only effective as the 2nd TE when defenses aren’t paying him any attention.
Stucki hasn’t done a good job with teaching release & routes.
Minchey & Angeli will get massacred trying to get the ball to these receivers.
4 AA caliber players (Harper not quite) and like you said all 4 off field in first half on entire drive … moronic… we had big top lead at the time so they weren’t gassedI’ve said it from the beginning, Freeman is more concerned about recruiting than coaching the actual team he currently has.
You saw it yesterday.
Freeman has stated himself he wants to get young guys on the field to show recruits that they will play early at ND.
Yesterday, trailing 10-6, he had:
Morrison out
Gray in
Hart out
Mickey in
Harper out
Lewis in
Brown out
Henderson in
Clemson throws slants an ins all the way down the field, TD, 17-6.
Why Freeman?
It’s like when he got the job & at his presser he talked the most important thing was to recruit better. He says this right in front of current players (saying they aren’t good recruits), who literally averaged 11-2, 2 CFPs & another NY6 game in their careers.
Doesn’t matter who you recruit if you can’t coach.
And guess what, ND had arguably the best secondary in the country (Morrison, Hart, Harper, Watts) and you don’t even have them on the field? So who cares if you recruit 5 Stars, if you have them on the sideline watching the 2’s get picked apart.
Just dumb.
Duke is awful without Leonard and it looks like he’s out for a while. They barely beat Wake Forest at home on Thursday.I have very little faith left in Freeman. It’s too bad because we are going to miss out on Elko by a year probably. That dude can coach
But would he take the MSU gig, if offered?Duke is awful without Leonard and it looks like he’s out for a while. They barely beat Wake Forest at home on Thursday.
Elko might not be able to grab an elite job this year after all

100%. i think we beat wake and stanford with either angeli or minchey at qb. not saying don't start hartman, but our other two qbs need to start getting some run. they should each get a half or so of play over the next two games, at the least. They're both good enough to win now and they're more active runners.
Can't go into 2024 without knowing what we have in the QB room.
What was the goal of that sequence? They gave up easy receptions to Pitt (yes they had 2 picks too)It was an ill advised package that didn’t work out. To make it worse the LBs were blitzing making for easy slant completions with no one dropping into lanes. They tried, failed, and didn’t do it again. There were opportunities to win that game, I’m not going to destroy them for this bad sequence.
How the hell did he make it through the post game presser without being asked about that drive ?I’ve said it from the beginning, Freeman is more concerned about recruiting than coaching the actual team he currently has.

The the recruiting should be a notch or two better imhoI’ve said it from the beginning, Freeman is more concerned about recruiting than coaching the actual team he currently has.

You should probably ask Golden that question, no? If I had to speculate it was to get guys some experience. It didn’t work and they reverted back to the 1’s. I’m sure they’re not happy with the decision in hindsight. What was the goal of that sequence? They gave up easy receptions to Pitt (yes they had 2 picks too)
It would be if he was a good coach, we would have went 11-2 last year and sitting at 9-1 right now… he’s dynamic recruiter but winning and development matterThe the recruiting should be a notch or two better imho
It was pretty clear Clemson saw personnel change and how they would attack, we had every opportunity to sub starters back inYou should probably ask Golden that question, no? But they didn’t. I wasn’t glued to the tv yesterday. Did Clemson go tempo? Did they sub personnel? Did we have the opportunity to change it up? Serious questions. I was busy and not studying substitutions. It was pretty clear Clemson saw personnel change and how they would attack, we had every opportunity to sub starters back in
Absolutely. These last two would not just be run of the mill losses they would be program defining losses. Play your best players until the game is no longer in doubt. You try like hell to win the rest, period.
Going 10-3 is so much better than 9-4 or 8-5.
10 wins is considered a good season by outsiders.
It helps with recruiting & program momentum.
Also, even though it shouldn’t matter for next year, it 100% does.
A team has a MUCH better chance of making the CFP if they are ranked higher versus not.
If two teams finish 10-2, but one started preseason 15th, the other unranked, the one ranked has a much better chance to make the CFP.
ND needs to win out, finish 10-3, ranked probably around 15th final rankings.
Then preseason next year should be ranked 12-17th range, which gives ND a great chance at the CFP.
Always win 10 if you can. Always.
We subbed ina lot that drive, just not those 5But they didn’t. I wasn’t glued to the tv yesterday. Did Clemson go tempo? Did they sub personnel? Did we have the opportunity to change it up? Serious questions. I was busy and not studying substitutions.
I remember two times ND had the chance to sub, & that’s actually when I realized ND had all the backups in, because I saw Henderson & Mickey mess up the play the both jumped the flat & the WR faked blocking & ran past them for the completion. Then Gray and Lewis got beat back to back plays. But they didn’t. I wasn’t glued to the tv yesterday. Did Clemson go tempo? Did they sub personnel? Did we have the opportunity to change it up? Doesn’t make much sense to sub out all the 1’s together. I get trying to mix them up but wholesale just to get guys burn isn’t smartI remember two times ND had the chance to sub, & that’s actually when I realized ND had all the backups in, because I saw Henderson & Mickey mess up the play the both jumped the flat & the WR faked blocking & ran past them for the completion. They showed the sideline & Hart & Morrison were just standing there.
So I paused the TV & looked & sure enough all the backups were in.
The very next play there was a stoppage, so I was just staring at the sideline waiting to see them come back in, & they didn’t.
I was very confused.
It was second quarter, our D had only been on the field for 5 minutes and had only given up 4 yards passing until that driveI remember two times ND had the chance to sub, & that’s actually when I realized ND had all the backups in, because I saw Henderson & Mickey mess up the play the both jumped the flat & the WR faked blocking & ran past them for the completion. I’m not even sure wtf this supposed to mean as I’ve long since lost the ability to translate half of what you post. You and a couple other posters here need to go breathe some fresh air and take a break from posting for a few hours. We’re all pissed off about the OC and a litany of other issues but dude take a f’ing break and take a couple of your whiny cronies w you on the way outside.Every loss it’s we have to watch tape and we didn’t execute. No shit Ray Charles can see that.
Flat out say it, we didn’t tackle well, the offense again didn’t play well, the play calling was good enough and I didn’t step in, we had 3 turnovers that’s why we lost
Saban tried to nab Grubb from UW, he turned them down. Doubt Freeman would have any more success prying him. What could’ve been. This was earlier in the year during the search:
John Brice of Football Scoop reported that, per sources, the Fighting Irish have vetted “Utah’s Andy Ludwig, Washington’s Ryan Grubb, Toledo’s Jason Candle, Colorado’s Sean Lewis and at least one other high-level Power Five offensive coordinator.”
EDIT: Buyouts for Ludwig and Grubb seem to be the theme. I assume Sean Lewis would’ve had similar buyout numbers. However for Jason Candle: “A buyout of Candle’s contract would cost a prospective school $750,000, with a $100,000 decrease ever subsequent year, per Rowland.”
He’s too nice…. No matter how bad dj brown zeke or Marist play they don’t come out… unless injury, there’s no standardIf Freeman with all his energy can’t get the team fired up to play who the hell can?
