Probably some adjustment from being an assistant/coordinator where no one really cares what you do to being the head coach where eyes are on your every move. Like a number of things, I suspect he will figure it out.
Big part of this has to be on ND. Virtually every organization that’s worth a crap has coaching for executive presence, especially when elevating someone into leadership for the first time. I don’t expect him to be stoic all the time, but it’s not like ND isn’t used to having attention on it 24/7 and needs to prep someone for that.

I think he needs a chance with a more experienced OC that he chooses, not someone who was foisted upon him by the AD, presumably to spite Kelly. He doesn't really own the program, completely, until he can do that.

So Marcus Freeman needs to be more animated on the sidelines during games and this is going to help some of you guys here?

I really don't know how it solves anything. A grown man acting like an imbecile in the heat of the moment.

This is really still a thing for people?

Some really unhinged stuff in here. Like entitled people that can't handle disappointment or setbacks. There's disappointment, then there are some of the posts in here.

Wow.

Disappointment? Setback?

Marcus Freeman was given the keys to a 2022 Mustang Cobra and proceeded to fill it up with diesel fuel and crash into into another pump after it started lurching back and forth.

Setback. Give me a break.

More animated than a couple of facial expressions that don't connote confidence? And the appearance that he's not speaking to anyone during games? Yes. He doesn't have to be on 10, but right now he's too neutral.

“I can’t come up with a magic answer … it’s the lack of execution,” Freeman said. “And the only way to fix a lack of execution is to go back and study it and say, ‘OK, what aren’t we doing right?’ And then you watch the film.”

Shouldnt he already know what the problem is? What is he going to see on the film that he didn't already see live?

And it's not like these problems haven't been apparent in the first 5 games. Red zone offense in particular has been horrific all year.

I want to see him succeed at ND. I genuinely do. He seems like an incredible person, husband, father, etc. But, the dude is clearly swimming in it and has no idea how to lead this program.

If your team can play as well as they did against UNC and BYU but don’t against absolutely terrible teams in Marshall and Stanford then the coaches are the problem. He is the Head Coach. It matters a great deal.

I don't need fake rage on the sideline or whatever some in here are talking about. The problem is that Freeman knows nothing about offense, so he can't even give an opinion, thus he's given 100% control to another unproven/not ready young coach.

Horrible setup by Savvy Jack. Got backward with the OC/DC setup. Freeman could have went young at DC, but needs experience at OC.

Want to know how bad things are? SP+ has us at FORTY THREE right now. We would be 7 point dogs at Illinois. Remarkable.

This is exactly where I’m at.

Frankly I don’t know why ND fans hated Brian Kelly for getting angry and holding players on the sidelines. They wouldn’t be happy Bama fans then because Saban gets upset all the time about poor execution.

Freeman looks like he is coaching his son’s baseball game. This is big time college football.

Bueller....Bueller...Do you want that teacher? Or do you want the one that gets you excited to come to class, and excited to partake in what you are doing? That doesn't mean you act like an imbecile...It means you do your job with a sense of enthusiasm that creates an environment where everyone has more adrenaline to excel!

See, I don't need storming on the sidelines. It's fine if it's authentic. Tom Landry was stoic but those players were terrified of him. He would give that gunfighters look and that's all it took.

Freeman needs to drop the kind caretaker role and become the head coach. And i dont buy that he knows nothing about offense. He has to defend against it.

Let's keep in mind the thead we're all currently posting in was started after the season began 0-2. College football fans are insufferable after defeats.

I think the emotion 24 hours after a frustrating embarrassing loss is getting the better of some people and a lot of horse shit is getting typed out onto the internet. If he were screaming and yelling with the outcome the same, you'd all be saying it was the wrong thing to do. The "fire and passion" bit is from meatballs who don't like losing. No one prefers a loss, but suggesting coaches change their personalities isn't going to fill any gaps the team lacks between the hashes.

He's a pretty boy.
He's too stoic.
This that and the other.

Let him coach his first full season. Many a recycled piece of scumbag trash have gotten second and third chances to be head coaches. He's half way through his first season and appears to be someone that isn't going to let them down off of the field.

Love said that it meant a lot to him and his family to sit and talk with Freeman prior to the game (not sure if it was Stanford or an earlier game).

I’m skeptical that BK ever did a sit down with a recruit the morning of a game. Anyone have any insight on this question?

Maybe Freeman is worrying too much about recruiting and less time about coaching. I’m getting Franklin vibes.

Franklin has a top ten team and freeman recruits better, so I’ll take it

Did Ryan Day struggle so badly when he took over Ohio State?
