I mean MF convinced BK to play more underclassmen this year than BK has done in the past. The program is okay.

The line was 1 point. I was never comfortable even at 28-7. We lost by 2 against a top 5 defense? I expected there to be some issues with a first time head coach coaching someone else’s team. Gonna give him a few years before I’m ready to ship him out.

I think it's his demeanor. As a quarterback with limited tools I felt like he always put his head down and worked hard to get better despite being surrounded by (more) talented quarterbacks.

I also talked to him out at a bar shortly after college - he's approachable and understated. I guess those are proxy markers for humility, but I tend to get a pretty quick read on people. My sense is that he's hungry and very willing to learn (in a way I never thought BK was).
Hope you're right!

what’s the point of this? Not sure why you bother, but neg rep/ignore don’t seem like correct measurements for your kind of “input”.

Oh please. A few of you guys act like I'm the only one venting.

It's the truth, that's why it makes you angry. Be angry at WHY it's the truth.

Do you think I'm happy? Do you think I like that it's the same old Notre Dame? ALL that good will and momentum are now gone. This was the one thing that couldn't happen and it did in spectacular fashion to a far less talented team.
This turd sandwich is going to have to be eaten by the staff and program for the next 7 months. Yum.

All the freshmen players were on offense. I can't think of any D freshmen.

Pretty sure I read that in an article that came out about MF after the HC hire.

Good thing you’re not on the staff then. The players, MF, and staff will rebound. Some of you guys I’m glad aren’t on staff or the team, no resiliency.

I agree that Freeman shouldn't be fire but he still shouldn't get a pass for this game. They had plenty of time to get ready and they did 25 mins. The next 35 mins looked like they had never practiced.

I guess ND should've hired PJ Flecko instead of Freeman....

Some of you need to go outside and play kickball or something....

There is no excuse. The staff pooped their pants. The players pooped their pants.

It was like pre-school on the sidelines.

Talk about overreactions. Woof. Our talent/depth issues finally caught up with us and were exposed. I think that actually is a compliment to the coaching that happened all year for the success there was. I think we’re most upset because of HOW we lost after dominating the first half. If it’s the same score and back and forth the entire time, no one is acting like the sky is falling. Game 1 in the Freeman Era was some good, some bad and some ugly. But the future is still bright.

We need one of NDMIA’s recruiting breakdowns for the defense. Our blue chip rate on defense is pretty poor due to Lea and Lyght’s recruiting. The athletes we need (why we lost yesterday) are either freshman or not on campus yet which is frustrating but it’s reality. I do have full confidence the defensive talent will be a 180 from this year in the coming years. Will be a lot of fun to watch once it comes full circle.

I am really hoping he treats recruiting coaches the same way he recruits players, wanting the best and doing everything to get them.

If ND doesn't strike out on corners in 2017, Marcus Freeman might have been a better coach yesterday.

There's Cover 0 blitzing 6, Cover 1 sending 5, Cover 2, 2-Man (sometimes they call it cov 5), Cover 3, Cover 4, Quarters (a variation of Cov 4), Cover 6 (Cov 4 on 1 half, 2 on other half), and incomplete zone coverages with blitzing. I guarantee ND tried a majority of if not all these coverages. Nothing worked.

It comes down to better player development and/or players with better ability.

Very first game as a head coach against a solid Oklahoma State team, and this is the thread that will continue forward, with the very first comment talking about his first game choke job.

Sheesh...

Nah. Someone will bump his proper thread as soon as he gets his next big commitment (Tate haha).

Loy just said Freeman is doing everything in his power to get ND to take undergrad transfers. Since ND already took them occasionally (under perfect circumstances) it seems like this is more about making exceptions for some kids that wouldn’t fit under previous guidelines.

I'm disappointed in the results, but I'm not going to put too much into this, because this was a unique set of circumstances. IMO there were several factors.

1. After a whirlwind of excitement for 30 days, this was building and I think they just emotionally peaked and subconsciously checked out at halftime after getting the big lead. Hard to fire the engine again when that happens.
2. MF[SUP]2[/SUP] was spending a lot of time taking to recruits to save the class along with getting adjusted to the demands of the job.
3. A temp calling the D doesn't have the experience to make in game adjustments as easily as someone who's been doing it for a few years. As much as Elston was involved in prepping for the bowl, there is no practice that can replicate the game experience.

So why didn't MF call the defense during the game? Was there some reason that he couldn't? It's MF's defense, right?

Maybe he's just not that good? We will see.

First games interim head coaches win bowl games with far less talent.

I'm not sure Notre Dame is the place for coaches to learn how to be a head coach

I'm guessing you have a punching bag in your bedroom with the ND logo on it and the first thing you do every morning is give it a good smack before anything else.

He did take over calling the D in the 4th when they started to slow them down some. I would assume he was trying to handle all of the other duties.
