Big "IF" - dude is a senior. Just b/c he is new to us doesn't mean he is new to CFB.

And we're almost halfway through the season.

Million dollar transfer QB that we hope develops to where he can hit an 8 yard out.

Man, our offense would cook.

Rico Flores was our number 1 receiver for most of the year last year you give Hartman Collins and a healthy Thomas and greathouse plus I would think you would get more out of Mitchell this team would be much better. You wouldn't be able to stack the box

This is where I’m at. Book had his limitations but he’s operate the offense better than the others. He’s a Denbrock sort of QB too.

Jack Coan would’ve been great in, say, 2020. Maybe even better than Book, but he struggled with evading pressure and the OLine has given up a bit too much pressure in all of our losses the past couple of years.

They are bringing pressure constantly against this line because they are daring us to beat them deep and we just don't . The line has to play better but you saw in the first quarter against Louisville that if you attack that you can make big plays

I feel like Book gets knocked around on here but I agree that I really appreciated what he brought. Was he going to destroy teams over the top? No, But he was a good mix of Hartman and Leonard. Sneaky fast to the point where he could really hurt you with his legs, vey accurate in the short and intermediate passing game, and a good enough deep ball you at least had to respect it.

Give me this stable of backs and WRs and I think he would've done very well this year.

I don't think any of the three win us the CFP in 2024, but Book would give us a real shot at 12-0 and a playoff win or two.

I'm really, really hoping CJ Carr is the promised one who can get us over that hump.

For sure. We really could've used Hartman's 5 turnovers against Louisville this year.
Good point. His average game last year still beats NIU.

However, circumstances last year were entirely different going into UL than this year. At home with Denbrock calling plays vs away with Parker calling plays. That's +2. Let's assume Hartman plays to the mean: 16-25 for 224 yards, 2 TD and one sack.

It makes last week a slightly duller affair more than likely.

But he typically sucked against UL no matter where he played.

I strongly believe he cost us the game against Clemson as well. The whole team didn’t play well, but the pick 6 he threw was a back-breaker and he was missing throws all over the place

It's over and done with. As is Leonard's presence.

College football is weird. It may as well be a week to week process for most where each Saturday is a season. I think this group has already proven that. The situation at QB is the 2024 reality and I hope they can win the rest of their games with what they have.

Im actually impressed with the performance of the offense despite RLs limitations as a passer and think that Denbrock and the staff are doing a solid job. We have the opposite problem we had last year. This year the skill talent is there but the offensive line is a work in progress. If we had an immobile QB we would be in a lot of trouble. RLs threat as a runner has led to some good plays for others. Denbrock has called some great plays in the right situations and clearly when we get a lead they are playing a bit more conservative and letting the opponent play into the strength of this team, the defense (specifically the DBs). I was hoping for more explosive pass plays but they are actually doing a good job.

No we are not. Hartman could not move like Leonard. behind this line, he's is prey
Maybe you haven't heard, but Hartman could not throw like Leonard either.

I'm glass half full that with Hartman on this team, they have enough to beat NIU at home with the other results remaining the same. But point taken. This is an exercise in futility at this point.

So is talking about how good the 2026 OL is going to be, but I digress.

Glad Riley looked a bit better against Louisville.

But also… SMUs QB against Louisville is 13/15 for 149 passing yards, 108 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD at half.

Louisville trending to be a paper tiger.

I think the rain hampered us.

Once Price fumbled, it seemed the strategy was “just do enough offensively without risking turning the ball over.”

Also Leonard got crunched and that slowed us down as well. But I think it was more Freeman worried about fumbles/picks and trusting his defense to be able to close the game.

Of course I could be wrong. But there was a big shift offensively after that moment until they needed to score again.
