Cignetti was very very complimentary of Notre Dame last year on a Podcast previewing Natty.. much more than OSU

I don't know what's more interesting: That Cignetti really said that to Angelo Pizzo or that Pizzo repeated it.

This is why I won’t be rooting for Indiana. Sorry but the minute he wins he will be trash talking ND about how we are irrelevant and IU is the best football school in the state of Indiana. I can hear it a mile away.

Both options suck. But I’d rather Miami win than hear him run his mouth about Indiana being superior to Notre Dame

All of this is true, but Cristobal might be an even bigger jackass AND Miami is everything wrong with CFB right now. Really impossible to pick a team to root for.

He was probably joking about Rudy. And who cares what he says about ND? Even if they lose, frankly, the available evidence indicates they are superior to ND this season. If we win a title, things change. No reason that can't happen soon.

I would find it interesting if IU got blown out but I won’t enjoy the celebration from either fanbase regardless of who wins.

Edit: apparently the game is already underway, so much for my interesting blowout narrative

Right. It’s one season and I genuinely don’t care about one season. Indiana will never be Notre Dame in the aggregate, but sure … they can be superior this season.

Notre Dame ran them off the field a year ago. No one said they were superior back then and no one will probably say it next season.

What a weird take. Regardless of the outcome tonight I doubt he's going to be thinking about ND at all.

Regardless next year for ND truly is Nattie or bust. Especially if IU ends up the winner tonight. The losingest program in major college football getting a nattie and making us little bro in our own state is unacceptable. Next year we must leave no doubt. Anything less than a national championship trophy is unacceptable.

Some of you just have odd reasoning. I didn’t mean he would literally be talking trash about ND the literal minute after the win.

It’s called a figure of speech. Meaning, he will be trash talking ND this coming season and moving forward if they win as a way to influence recruiting and due to perceiving ND as a threat.

A lot of stars had to align for this to happen. A new era of portal + NIL that IU was able to aggressively pursue while others were still adjusting and allowed Cig to turn over a roster quick + COVID allowing a ridiculously old roster. He's an incredible coach no doubt, but let's see what next year brings when the team isn't almost 24 years old on average. He almost just lost to one of the worst coaches in CFB (who also got this far due to an incredibly old and experienced roster)

And yes - I'm a hater. I can't stand the guy. His expressions, his demeanor, all of it just pisses me off. But he is a great coach no doubt.

He's got an ego the size of Texas. What else is there to prove at the CFB level? He just took the historically worst CFB team and won them a ship. He seems the type to be always eyeing the next challenge (nonconf schedule notwithstanding)
