m16 crkt: quick blade deployment

CR14M.jpg

Ick. Nothing against you my man, but I find all the CRKT's heinous. Just too weird looking. I'm more into the clean and classic lines.

Finally photobucket loaded... here's another picture of my Grip. It doesn't give much more detail but you can see it there. These were snapped the night I made those paracord bracelets. I'll try and get some more pictures soon.

I bet I'll get it for the wedding. I have some good buddies that are into the same shit as me so I'm hoping they pick it up.

The Grip isn't modified at all. It's an OD green grip with black blade. I love it though. My only gripe is that the blade needs tightened every once in a while and that it's not FFG. I know I can put some Loctite blue in there, but I just keep forgetting. Here's a link to the one I got and the store I shop around out.

Benchmade Griptilian 551BK OD Green | GPKNIVES.com

I miss my Delica. FFG is the perfect cut for an EDC. RIP Blue Delica.

Ahh it's the OD green synthetic handle. I thought it looked like g10. Nice knife. Do yourself a favor and email BMs customer care support center, ask for an Adamas replacement pocket clip, because yours is dinged up.

A week later, swap out clips, boom griptillian with deep pocket carry pocket clip.

(Ask for Contego clip if you want a silver instead of black)

Ohhh. Deep pocket would be awesome. But I rather enjoy the real worn down look of my clip right now. Decisions decisions.

Peoria-Have you used one one of these M16s? Easily deployed-easily....

I really like ANZA knives as well-a clean and classic for sure. Picked one up last year and have used it on a few hunts. Needs a sharpening though-lansky for me.

Do you sharpen yourself? I am working with a Lansky kit but really want to work into a Spyderco Sharpsmaker. You used one?

I do sharpen myself, but not worth a shit. Sharpmaker is super legit, but only for upkeep. No good for get dirty reprofile work. I use a DMT Aligner for now, and it does the trick coupled with my trusty leather strop. I've been eye-balling an EdgePro Apex though...

A leather strop is vital. Used to sharpen without one but man, the difference it makes. Enormous.

I really like those Boker's too. That will likely be in my arsenal someday but I need that ESEE first. I love the lines on that knife.

Okay, I haevn't been able to take too many pictures of actual knives so far, but if we are talking "blades" then I have to include some of my axes and hatchets. I love to restore and clean old tools and I have come across some cool old hatchets and an old Craftsman axe.

Here is one of the hatchets. It used to be my Grandfather's and I found it in an old box of tools in my Dad's garage. It was in pretty rough shape, but I worked on cleaning it up and it is really nice.

This is the old Craftsman axe. It had excessive rust and pitting, but I cleaned it up and put a really nice, sharp edge on it. The handle is a custom "camo" paint job I did. I know purists don't like it when you clean old tools so much and remove any patina or dirt, but I like bringing old tools back to their full glory sometimes. This one I refer to as my "zombie cleaver".

I will leave you with this last one for now. This is a shadow box I had made up with three generations of pocket knives. The one on the top left was my great grandfather's knife that he carried with him everyday for 60+ years. The one on the bottom was my grandfather's that he always had in his pocket for as long as I can remember. The one on the top right was my Dad's that he kept with him and was one of his favorites for a number of years. This is one of my most prized possessions. Couldn't figure out a good way to photograph it though, so I apologize for the poor quality.

I will post more later. I need to take a few more pictures. Let me just say my collection is definitely ecclectic.

Those are some awesome pieces. I especially love the shadow box. I'm a huge proponent to family heirlooms and it drives me batshit crazy when people on these gun mod shows bring in their great grandfathers gun and say... hey, make this tacticool. Make me want to drive out there and take that gun from them cause they certainly don't deserve it.

All very, very cool. The quoted above is just plain awesome. I can't really express on here how awesome I think that is.

Here is another smaller hatchet. This one feels really good in the hand and I think looks really cool.

Also, this isn't my EDC, but I do have this on my belt when working out around our mountain house. I know there was some negative opinions about CRKT, but I really like some of their stuff. This is the Triumph NECK knife.

Thanks for all the nice compliments above. That shadow box piece is my pride and joy of my collection. It looks even better on the wall, but I took it down to take the picture. That was the only way I could keep my ugly mug out of the reflection in the glass.

Tonight I plan to take some pictures of more pieces in my actual knife collection. Definitely more to come.

Also on the CRKT topic, to me, a knife is like pizza. I like it all, just matters how much.

I have $0.99 fixed blades I trash in the saltwater and high end folders. Love em all.

When I get home from FL I will upload. Don't think anything of mine is anything crazy but def. don't resist temptation well with knives around. Buy for no purpose at all.

So here are a few more from the collection. I will hold off on posting a whole bunch all at once.

This first one is an old German bayonet I have. I don't know hold old it is or from what period, but it has really solid construction and is just cool to look at and hold.

This is one I picked up from my work. I work for a restaurant equipment manufacturer's rep and this is a kitchen knife we had and I thought it looked cool. SUPER sharp. So I made the sheath out of PVC piping. Cut and flattened out with the custom "camo" I like to use.

Lastly, here is what I guess is my EDC. I don't have it with me all the time, but it is usually with me. Its just a cheap folder, but I like the built in seat belt cutter and window breaker. My wife gave it to me, so it is a little sentimental as well.

More to come...

Here are a few more:

This one is another smaller bayonet. I have no idea about the manufacturer, origin, or age, but it is a nice bayonet. I want to put a good edge on it and do something else for the sheath rather than the flimsy nylon one it had when I bought it.

This next one is my only "fantasy" genre knife. My Dad gave me this knife many, many years ago and I think it is kind of cool. It is a Gil Hibben and I think it is called the Double Shadow.

And for today's finale, a classic Bali-Song butterfly knife. No longer legal here in Cali, but I have had this since I was in junior high. Ever since I saw the movie the Outsiders and Emilio Estevez pulled one of these, I just thought it was so cool. I can still whip this out pretty fast. My wife hates it when I do it!

That's all for now. I still have many more to post!

Kick ass butterfly. Me being from NM, I've known how to operate one of those bad boys since the age of 4.

Funny story, first year at ND a buddy down the hall (Keenan Hall 4W baby) bought a Balli. He had no idea how to use it but was showing it off to everyone. When it was my turn to check it out I surprised the shit out of everyone by whipping it through a few basic open/close sequences. Still not sure if I impressed more people or scared more.

Here's my carry for the day:

I love Kershaw blades and their top line, Zero Tolerance. Kershaw are dependable and sturdy, yet light and affordable. I have gotten so many blemishes brand new and cheap on eBay now I'm not sure how many I have, but this Rainbow Leek is my favorite:

Here are more from my collection:

This first one is a knife my Dad brought me back from a trip in Mexico. It fell in to some rough shape, but recently I brought it out, cleaned it up and put a good edge on it.

Then we have the Spyderco. I don't even know if this is legal in CA so I don't take it out much.

Lastly, here is a little boot knife I like. I don't know the maker or origin, but it is a cool little knife.
