I think we should be recruiting a kicker. If Weis doesn't have any confidence in the guys we have, we need to find another one. Its such a key part of the game.

The sad awful truth is, it's not that hard to find a kicker. Find the two best in the Midwest and put them on scholarship. Or watch a bunch of soccer games and convert the guy with the biggest boot on a corner kick into your place kicker. Yet Weis recruited one who he says can't make it from 41 going into the wind. And he was talking about distance -- not angle! Any kicker on a college football team should be able to boot the ball 41 yards, accuracy notwithstanding. Another example of how Weis was unprepared for this season.
It's not a firing offense, but if I was Kevin White, I'd want to know what Weis was doing in the offseason besides recruiting quarterbacks.

How is the ND goalkeeper? my son played that position and he had as many football coaches contact him as soccer coaches. Goalkeepers practice distance and placement on a regular basis. Georgia Tech's field goal kicker was a goalkeeper all through high school

Kicker

It seems that so many schools have better kickers than us. What's the deal? When was the last time you saw a kickoff make it to the end zone? Our kickers can't get the bal to the 10! While want a decent PK I would want somebody who can put it in the endzone. Our special teams on kickoffs give the ball to the opposition at the 35 or better almost every time. This is a joke!

In fairness to [NAME REDACTED], Walker did look like a damn solid kicker coming out of HS (but we also did land him just on a fluke stroke of luck.)

What really makes me shake my head in embarassment is before the start of the 2nd half, Brandon Walker was out there practicing field goals from just about the spot where Weis said he couldn't make it from, 'Hey, thanks for the vote of confidence, Coach,' and sinking just about every single one.

Just another example of what is wrong with the Irish. Tressel, for example, loses a kicker and has 2 ready to step right in and take over. Special teams can make a huge difference and it's an area the Irish could be at.

That is a fictitious account. If [NAME REDACTED] said it did not happen, it did not happen. [NAME REDACTED] will return us to the promised land and we must follow him blindly. Did you miss your "re-education" sessions?

I must have missed them whilst burying my head in shame and discontent.

Exactly right. Walker CAN make kicks from that distance. Maybe not consistently, but certainly at a higher percentage than Sharpley converts 4th-and-8's and then leads dramatic scoring drives in the closing 30 seconds.

Are we recruiting any?

No, we already have 3 kickers and 2 punters on the team. 3 of which are already on scholarship and scholarships are going to start getting tight next year. They may recruit a kicker from Boone High School in Orlando out of next year's class.

It is for ND. They're a small private school that's very hard to get into. Most of the big time state universitys can roll the dice on one guy, then if he doesn't work out they generally have several kids in thier state that kicked in high school, or played soccer will make the team as a walk-on. Then they take the best one of those and give them a scholarship. if ND's kicker doesn't pan out then they're screwed.

Scholarships are for one year, lose some of the kickers and replace them with guys that can help us win games. CW is not supposed to be loyal to individuals. Us not making fg, or kick offs that barely reach the 10, is going to make us lose some games.

I never know ND to not honor them for four years unless the player does something to be kicked off the team or out of school.

I agree ND should honor all four years unless the kid gets kicked off the team. We need a REAL special teams coach period!!!

Wish list:
1) Finish off recruiting strong keep all commits
2) Win at least (2) more games
3) Hire new OL coach!!!!
4) Hire new special teams coach!!!
