Im gonna keep it simple. THE MAN FOR THE JOB IS COACHING THE TEAM RIGHT NOW. SO STOP WITH THE WHINING AND GIVE THE DUDE A CHANCE. THIS IS HIS SECOND YEAR COACHING THIS GROUP OF KIDS. WE ALL KNOW IT'S A LIE TO SAY THAT THE TEAM HASN'T IMPROVE. BUT I WILL AGREE THAT WE NEED TO BE MENTALLY TOUGH, AND CHARLIE HAS TO FIND A WAY TO ACCOMPLISH THAT. LET'S PLEASE STOP WITH THE FLAVOR OF THE MONTH COACHES ALSO. MIKE LEACH LMAO@!!!!

I don't think Mike Leach would take this job. I not saying fire CW, but he is 8-15 in his last 23 games. There is no way he will get fired because of his contract. Next year is the telling year. I did not expect more than 7-8 wins this year. Everyone who expected more from this team, must of had a blind eye to last year. The defense is looking much better. My problem is how many running plays have we had lose yardage?

I expected us to suck in the beginning of the season. I thought we would be getting better. I had us at 8-9 wins. But this last game was not acceptable. He deserves criticism and should expect it. ND has three more games left this season. They had better wake the hell up. That was absolute crap that we seen last Saturday night. No way around it. This guy gets one more season. Maybe. If we see the same stuff the next three weeks... It's going to hit the fan.

yes this game we lost on saterday was a heartbreaker for sure as was last week against pitt. i thin we are ghetting better and with al of these close games i think we are going to see how these kids react. charlie needs to be more active in play calling i think. he was brought here because of his play calling. i know he wants to be around the whole team more but he should still be more involved

ND needs a coach who understands the college game.....and I don't think it's CW.
There has been no consistant running game or defense since he has been in charge.

Why is that so funny? He is a proven winner! I'm LMAO at Charlie Weis right now. 1-15 against teams with winning records???? Thats hilarious. Charlie stinks and he's not a head coach. He's a recruiter/qb coach at best.

I think as fans we should be content with two wins, and showing up against USC and it not getting too ugly.
Next year is the do or die year, not in '08. This crap of not supporting CW is way premature.

Firing CW now, makes us no better than any other school that turns over their coaches every 3, 4, or 5 years. He needs to be given the chance to fix this. Either by a staff shake up or change in philosophy. I would agree somewhat with Wahoo, CW needs to realize this is college and not the pros. The kids need emotion more than the pros do. Their emotion gets some of the lesser talented kids to play way behind their physical skill level. I think he can fix this, we need to be patient and hopefully the administration needs to be patient.

Who could you bring in at this point that would be such a plus that it would rule out the negatives of firing a coach? Saban isn't going anywhere. That leaves who???

Guys,
Face the facts. Charlie will be here for 2009 whether you are a supporter or not unless a complete collapse happens. If he we win against Navy and Syracuse as expected and then lose respectably against USC, Charlie is safe. Although his offseason will be no party.

IF we lose to either Syracuse or Navy and get slaughtered by USC and then lay an egg in a bowl. I believe Charlie will be looking for a job. If he loses all the remaining, I am sure he is done.

IF ND beats Syracuse and Navy solidly, play extremely competitive against USC and have a solid win in a bowl, he will relieve alot of the stress.

Finally, 2009 is do or die for Charlie. He will all four classes of his recruits. A schedule that is very favorable. 7 home games. He must win a minimum of 10 games next season or he should be shown the door. NO EXCUSES!!!

Charlie Weis knows more about football in his pinky than any single poster on this site. He certainly shows loyality to his coaching staff and players. He never throws people under the bus
like many posters on this site. His mentoring of Haywood and Brown hopefully get them the chance to be head football coaches. His work ethic is undeniable. He wants to win so bad he won't even get his leg fixed until recruiting season ends in early Feb. With four Super Bowl rings and now the Head coaching job at Notre Dame he has risen to the pinnacle of his career field. I wonder how many nay sayers can post such a resume for themselves. Being an older fella, who has experienced the roller coaster of life, I'm not going to attack a guy and call for his head because the QB threw four interceptions and had a bad day. I want to wait and see the season be completed hopefully ending with a bowl victory. To me, an 8-5 season (hopefully) doesn't taste to bad after our terrible season last year. Good luck to CW and the Irish squad in the coming weeks.

If Weis is fired, who actually wants this job? What recruits would stay? How many, if any, could they hope to attract? Firing him now would set the program back 3 years again.

The CW experiment needs to end. I think the Irish need a college coach. I don't think Charlie knows how to develop the players. He didn't have to do that at the NFL. It's a totally different game and that's where he learned, whatever it is he supposedly learned. The contract isn't really an issue because the Alumni will take care of the buyout.

Senoj,
I do not say we fire Weis in 2008 and hope he is the solution, but if he has to go trust me there are many who wnt the job. The cupboard is stocked with talent and we will not be set back 3 years like Ty's firing.

Charlie Weis is the man for the job.

He is developing the players but they are young!

Lets stick together people and support our team. The last thing they need is added pressure. It will turn around. 2009 will be a great year guys just be patient.

GO ND!!!

Agree...further, I even give Charlie some slack because of the field leadership void between the 05/06 gang and this current gang...but I still do not see alot of progress. If Charlie cannot set the course, and make leaders out of these guys (e.g. win on the road, keep discipline, general mental toughness) the excellence in recruiting is pissed away, and will turn south quickly.

The question you gotta ask is, can Charlie take all these studs, and make them live up to their potential...so far the tea leaves say NO. Sorry guys...want him to be a success...think he works as hard as anyone...but do remeber we all lose our jobs if the results are shit, regardless of how many hours we work..

ND fans are never happy, probably want CW head after a NC win also. This is exhausting, these kids are young and learning with each game. I'm happy most of you are not leading our country and I hope a lot of you are not teaching our youth.

If we can get Chuckie away from Tampa I'd be happy... other than that yeah, I don't see the risk reward helping us much

call me crazy, but if, this is a big if.... 'bama runs the table and wins NC, we might be able to get Saban since there wouldn't be a reason for him to stay in 'bama.

ok, maybe it's just the painkiller talking (got a root canal this morning.....)

Gruden has stated today that he isn't leaving the NFL (they were talking about the Tennessee rumors). As long as the Glazers will have him, he said, he'll stay in TB for the rest of his career. Could be lying a la Satan, but it seems as if he's an NFL guy.

I'm with you, I've said all along I don't see a long list of big names wanting to come to ND. Hell, I don't even see a list...

After listening to the "Herd" and his ND bashing I'm a little fired up. I'm going to keep it short.

BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU ASK FOR!!!

You sell yourself for wins and you get a creep that drags your program down. (See Indiana Basketball, I know different sport/process, but it's the same philosophy. Wins by any means/pay for it later. )

There is nothing wrong with being critical. We should be when things go wrong. But we must understand the whole picture as well. Let's wait until next year to call for his head. Right now it's too soon.

Let me just start off by saying I am behind Coach Weis 100%. I think he is the right man for the job and he WILL get things turned around.

However, to speak in hypotheticals, I do not think, if he were to be fired this year or next, the administration would necessarily need to go outside the program. I think in order to keep any continuity with the players and not back slide again through attrition, you would hire from within and I think the good choice would be Corwin Brown as the next HC. He is passionate, a stellar recruiter, and he gets the players fired up. I would be very unhappy if Coach Weis were to be dismissed, but if they turned over the reigns to Corwin, I would be a little more understanding.

I am only speaking in terms of "what ifs". I do not want Coach Weis to go this year or any year, for that matter. But, if he were to be removed, I think keeping a smooth transition would be key and Corwin could step in easily. Just in my opinion.

The fact is.... CW had no head coaching experience at all. We committed a ton of years to a guy that we should have known was going to grow into the job and learn as he goes. We couldn't get anyone proven to come and coach at ND. Gruden, Mooch, Meyer... the all turned us down! He's proven to be a quick study on the recruiting side... something Davie and Ty were never. We were spoiled with early success... and now he's paying the price for that. We should have been fully prepared to be patient with this guy...

Again... zero head coaching experience... he will get things right. Be patient!

Not that it really adds to the argument... but we aren't going to get anyone better than Charlie. Nobody wants to coach here. He needs our support and patience... not all this crap.

And if you were a true Domer... you wouldn't be spewing crap here... or speculating on his future... it only hurts our recruiting efforts!!!!

ND is going through a major transition from Ty recruiting to CW recruiting. This team is super young.

I don't even count his first two years... it's almost unfortunate we did so well because again... he's paying the price for that success now... when we knew it would be coming because of the lack of senior talent.

Even Holtz went through that transition period when he got here... 5-6 and 8-4 before exploding. We'll finish 7-5 this year... and next year is when CW starts earning his money. I predict we'll be top 10 next year once again. The glory days are just around the corner!

CW.... I got your back brotha!

reps I have thought that for a while... I don't know why I forgot to mention him with Gruden... he is the only one on staff now I would feel at all good about... Tim mentioned Tenuta in another thread... Tim is the man but I couldn't disagree more... I disliked the Tenuta hire BEFORE the blitz packages did nothing but leave gaps in our D... now??? Even more so. But what does it matter, behind him or not I find it hard to believe CW is going anywhere any time soon

I've taken a few days to THINK about what I am about to say, I am not an alum but my love for the Irish is as deep as it could be without once being a student there, here are my thoughts from a person who once was an athlete ( major league baseball ) on emotion and the status of Notre Dame Football, as weak as it sounded to me when the coach of BC can get his guys up for ND by merely asking the question "How many of you guys were recruited by Notre Dame" we must change something right now, intelligence, savy, football talent are all a given at this point in a college football players career, emotion is not, we are SOFT, and thats a direct result of how they are coached, Charlie is a stud, he has shown them how to perform with pain--he's doing it, he is a great coach who cares and would do anything to restore this program, his recruiting has shown that, but he is not the Head Coach that they need, if all his work cant produce a better effort than last week against BC then he is not the man for the job, if he cant explain to these guys that they are the GATE KEEPERS of this proud school and get them to play accordingly then he is not the man for the job, like all of us I wanted him to succeed but its been too long since they played like NOTRE DAME is supposed to play, if you dissagrre with this I understand but when I watched ALA/LSU this past weekend you could see the hitting and effort on both sides of the field, those boys were sold out to win, we are not, Ara, Lou, got that part done and even if we dont match records or talent with the elite of college football these days we must match emotion, when my QB gets his nose rubbed in the dirt after an intercection and is taken out by HIS coach for a play to correct him and we do nothing it shows these guys just dont get it and thats a reflection of the coach, in the past that guy would have paid with a mouthful of Irish football, I will say it again we are soft, and when you are soft you shrink back into your own shell instead of stepping up to the challenge, the culture must change and as much as I wanted Charlie to succeed its time to change, all this rhetoric about loosing a top flight 09 class is crap, its been done with less before and is being done with less today in LUBBOCK, UTAH, BOISE STATE, of course in todays college game things are much different than past decades, thats the point, it has been decades since NOTRE DAME has been a bust you in the mouth program, the motor of a football team is its emotion and the guys up front, we do not have that and all the 4/5 star skilled players in the world wont fill that void, its time for a leader who understands that instead of just x's and o's, Charlie is to be admired for all he has tried to do and what he has accomplished, the first two years with the BCS money we got he practically paid for his contract so in that sense he has done his job, my hat is off to this guy, but he has to go, the football program has become irrelavant, sad as that sounds it is the truth, the new coach has to understand the power of EMOTION
