Jason Kates Discusses Syracuse Visit
Dec 16, 2005

Jason Kates paid Syracuse University a visit last weekend and came away with a positive impression of the school. Syracusefan.com catches up with Kates for the latest news.

Jason Kates surprised everyone when the Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania football star visited Syracuse this past weekend. “ I had a good visit there, I was really impressed by their facilities, and they were a lot better than I thought they would be. I also get along real well with the coaching staff. Coach Robinson and pretty much every coach on the Syracuse coaching staff have come to my school to see me. I would rate the visit about and 8 out of 10.”

Originally it was thought that Kates would be visiting Maryland this weekend but Kates responded by saying that it was not true. “ I don’t know where people got that, because I never said that. Somebody on the Internet got that wrong. I am interested in Maryland but have not set up a visit and not sure if or when I will.”

Kates has now visited Minnesota and Syracuse on official visits, so he has three more visits left if he wants to use them. I asked him if he plans on taking any more official visits and he responded by saying, “Yes I plan on taking all of my visits. I am not sure where they will be but I know they won’t be until after the New Year. I am trying to figure that out in the next 2 weeks. Once I take my visits I will then make a decision.”

While Kates didn’t say much about the other schools he plans on visiting he did say he wants to go to a school where he can play early. “I want to go to a school where I can play immediately, I don’t want to red shirt if I don’t have to. Syracuse and Minnesota have told me I will have that opportunity.”

Here is what we know from the Internet sources about Kates:

Went to Minnesota, spent most of the trip in his hotel room. Didn't see the game.

Was supposed to visit Maryland, then decides to reschedule. On the rescheduled date, he goes to Syracuse instead.

I just found this on Scout.com. I had no idea he visited there and it was a month ago.
I'm guessing there is no chance here. Should McCoy not go to ND for some reason, they will be without a DT.

No mention of the Irish. I'm wondering about SBT's report that he's back in the mix, McCoy or no McCoy.

edit: whoops, I missed that this is a month old. Nothing to see here. Move along.

Someone here needs to give Kates a call. I nominate jigga... or possibly a three way with scoop. LOL

They really under-recruited this spot for some reason.

Anyone know why? Three DT got offers. That's just not enough.

There is a kid from Tampa rated in the DT top ten and he's going to South Florida. South Florida?

Let's refer to it as a conference call, please, and not a three way. Unless you're talking about Skyline Chili. (only the cincy residents will get that one.)

ND has always had a hard time recruiting DT's. Even in Holtz's later years. Who knows why?

3 way...the signature dish.

When you travel, you end up in all kinds of different restaurants.

I believe they have McCoy. 1) His good friend George West makes room for him; 2) The two things that are most important in his life are his belief in God and his belief in a good education and; 3) He wants to see the field quickly.

He is choosing ND.

Every thread we start about Kates goes completely off topic.

I think we give him the same due respect he has given Notre Dame throughout the entire recruiting process.

This kid has been all over the map... he doesn't even know if he wants to get a cheeseburger or chicken nugget Happy Meal for dinner tonight.

Good God, all I saw was scoop and three way with Kates and I said to myself "OK, maybe I'll just check out that Mega Mitch thread again." Got a little scared there for a minute boys!!

Who's Kates?

Me? I prefer 5-ways, though my wife isn't a fan of the onions and beans. I also prefer Goldstar to Skyline.

Now, what were we talking about?

This makes complete and total sense. Almost to the degree where you think he isn't coming here because all of the stars are lined up too perfectly. If he comes here, I'm ordering my Gerald McCoy authentic jersey immediately.

Skyline is great. Always fit that into one of my lunches when I am down there.

I've never heard of it. Just kidding. I was going to try it the last time I was in Cincy, but I never got a chance to. Is it as good as they say it is?

It's good, but not as good as Goldstar. Don't expect chili in its pure sense. That's not really what it is. It's really a sweeter Greek meat sauce that is excellent over spaghetti or on a hot dog and covered with grated cheese.

Drop this freeloader!!! I am telling you this kid is a big (fat) mistake. He is not going to cut it on the next level. He is big, but sloooooowwww. He pushed around 200 lb linemen from Pennsylvania all season. The Harrisburg Patriot still lists him as potential PSU commit. I just do not have a good gut feeling about this guy. I saw him play two times this year and the only positive thing I could find was that he was bigger than everyone else. He came out of the game frequently, winded and sweating through his pads - a la warren sapp (without the speed). He also quits on plays after the ball carrier gets by him - he is no D. Landri. I will be upset if this guy is holding a scholarship that Mustain, McCoy or Young could have.

I used to bring customers to a facility we had north of Cincinnati. They flew in from all over the country CA, NY, TX, FL, IL. It was amazing how many asked if we could stop at Skyline for a bowl.

Just looking around, I haven't seen him mention Notre Dame in quite some time.

Penn State is loading up on D Line in this class. Not sure where he'd fit in.

I'll take a four-way inverted (spaghetti, then cheese, then chili, then onions) any day. I have missed it since we moved from Cincy to Houston.
