ND didn't even make the top 10 for the Joe Moore award this year.

On the Thursday II podcast this topic came up. Sampson said when it comes to short yard or goal line, the 12 package isn't getting results. That group couldn't say with any confidence that the ND O line could win even matchups vs Pitt running, let alone when Pitt has more hats in the box.

To protect CJ and stress the defense more, I would even flirt with bringing Minchey in at QB in those situations.
No. The qb shuffle sounds great until Minchey is stuffed

Same church different pew in my opinion. I think Kelly at Oregon was a ton of lateral stuff to get small, quick guys in space. That's not what I envision for ND in the run game.

You can go 4 wide and still be able to run counter, ISO, power and read option without 8 guys in the box.
I'd have to go back and refresh my memory.

I know they liked stretch zone, but I remember A LOT of spread formation rpos between or off the tackles. The tempo and rpo is what made it feel air raid(ish) to me, but the stats said balanced to run heavy.

Mike Denbrock isn't the only OC that outthinks himself.

Got a whole row of armchairs out there doing it right along with him.
Denbrock didn't out think himself much today. Didn't think his O line could win in short yardage either, which is why he called at least 4 quick outs to Rairdon instead.

Happy to see ND kick ass in Pittsburgh today.

Please coaching staff: I like that you think that CJ is our QB. In all situations. Don't change that.

Im curious, any chance that Jagusah can come back for the playoffs? Then you put him at LT, Schrauth at LG, and Knapp at C? Wasnt Knapp originally being trained for C before moving to LT last year? Or am I completely off base there. Plus, if Scrauth/Wagner come back, that would be your best 5 most likely next year.

Am I going full 2008? Please dont tell me I went full 2008....

It is highly unlikely. Even if he is healed he won’t have the strength and conditioning to play long spurts.

Whats the timeline difference this year compared to last? I thought it would be pretty similar.

Not much has been said since he had the second surgery on it. So I don’t believe anyone really knows.

My hope for everyone on Irish Envy is that they find someone who loves them as much as ND fans love removing Knapp from the LT position.

I would venture to guess that if Kenny Minchey came in for a meaningful down, the opposing defensive coordinator might have a slight hunch as to what is coming. It would seem very predictable.

Further, we have to question the staff's evaluation at QB considering Minchey is the obvious answer to some for the OL supposedly being shit.

I don't know, two games left, 8 game winning streak. I'm really inclined to think that going with four wideouts and having special packages for Minchey is not, will not and should not be a thing at this point of the season.

Youse keep going, though. Whatever passes the time.

Even if he was cleared, I can’t imagine moving that many guys around. You’re messing with the continuity they have built playing together.

The suggestions from some on here read a lot like Madden. "Just swap this guy and that guy and shuffle around these guys." Sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Jagusah may be one of our best OL, but he's missed two consecutive seasons and hasn't built any camaraderie with the other starters. Just moving someone who has started the entire season off the line to plug in someone else can disrupt the chemistry. I know there's a high standard for OL play at ND, but the line is actually pretty good and I don't think shuffling the deck before a playoff game is a good idea.

Bane is correct. The exception would be a superstar fully operational and with time to resonate together with teammates with whom he has already had good cohesion. My guess is, however, that the arm bone injury is far more difficult to fully strengthen than the pec-muscle injury (which is what I thought previously had.) I've seen power lifters recover from the torn pecs quicker than a BBaller I had with a snapped lower arm bone (difficult damn things to strongly set.)

IF Jagusah was truly physically ready, I have no reservations about his ability to merge with his buddies quickly. We've been doing it almost weekly under Coach Rudolph. I'm guessing that he is just not yet fully ready, and the OLine is functioning pretty well as is. (Love isn't getting all those yards on his own, great athlete that he is.) If Jagusah got very close to ready, I'd guess Rudolph would hold him back as the next-man-in.

Right now that's Terek. As Rudolph said: If we need someone to come in, 'High T' is ready." (Our assembly line is still powerfully stacked but sure, it's thinner.) (add-on thought: The one thing that a fully ready Jagusah can do that no other OLineman we have can do nearly so well, is road grade and throw someone away at the point of attack --- and THAT would be nice from the tackle position on the goal line.)

I'd find that "interesting" and entertaining. (I've been asking for an old-time "Stanford heavy package" with a giant fullback-type for a while. We don't do that though.)

He actually should come back. I believe (purely amateur opinion here) that the pros will be concerned about whether he has the necessary strength. Maybe one more year growing into his "man-strength" might give him a career chance. He has the smarts and the attitude and the dependability and all that stuff Notre Dame gives and pros love, but he appears to me short on both strength and foot agility (a la the outside speed rushers of the pros.)

It was my favorite part of the Rees offense. The man knew short yardage.

The thing about Wagner is…do we want him back? At some point it could be a financial decision. Could his money go to Price? Move Jagusah, Lambert or Black to RT. One of the others play RG

I wouldn't count on Jags for anything. If he's available, gravy.
Moving on from a high level three year starter for "potential" feels foolish.

Going purely off of the depth chart, why wouldn't a healthy Jag replace Absur forbthe playoffs? Has Absur been that good?
