Honest question: how is this interesting?

Urban Meyer picks Georgia because NFL talent. Entirely predictable.
NFL talent. We have NFL talent on both sides of the football. Only NFL talent we don’t have is probably at WR. His comments come off as someone who hasn’t watched a game.

Leonard, Love, Price, Evans, some of the OLs, maybe Faison or Greathouse. Cross, Rubio, Young, Burnham, Sneed, Bowen, Ausberry, KVA, Watts, Shuler, Moore, maybe Gray and Clark. They all say hello. (Mills, Morrison and Traore send their regards from the medical tent)

But sure, Urbs, keep thinking this is the same Davie-era Notre Dame team you coached on. Your boss made a lot of excuses back then. The current regime does not.

I’ll always remember Davie constantly whining about everything. For as bad a coach as Willingham was, I’m not sure Davie wasn’t worse.

Georgia has 3 defenders projected as top 13 picks. Yahoo had those 3 going in the top 12. Not sure we have a 1st rounder playing Saturday, maybe Love next year?

So are Georgia's. They had the #1 class last year and #2 the year before.
Yes Georgia has more recruited talent, and more likely first round picks, than we do.
But we have a lot of players who will go play in the NFL too, and probably the deepest base of talent across the roster we’ve had since the ‘90s.
Both can be true. This won’t be a talent mismatch like, say, 2012 Bama or even the 2018 and 2020 playoff games.

I would too if I wasn’t a fan. NFL talent is usually a safe pick. Hence why we beat Indiana. Regular season games these teams often lose here and there (NIU, Vandy, etc) but in the playoffs, when it’s all on the line, NFL talent usually wins out.
If it’s best of 5 or 10 then yes. If it’s 1 game their talent advantage lessens considerably.

Talent never worries me in these games. Speed does.

I haven’t watched Georgia enough to determine how much faster this team is than ours, but I’m sure they are faster, it’s just a matter of how much.

Call me Urban. I don’t know much about this team, so have defaulted to the assumption they have 4 Roquan Smith’s patrolling the field on defense and 4 AJ Greens and a Brock Bowers lined up for passes.

I don't think they're faster. None of their WRs concern me and their back #3 is really quick but our backs are better. Their edge rushers are certainly faster but that's moreso cause ours just aren't. I don't think there's a speed advantage either way, but their OL and DL have some serious advantage on paper.

That sounds beatable. I know they have a first round EDGE that could be a serious problem.

An X factor here is Leonard’s mobility and strength. He concedes very few sacks.
Actually a little surprised we even gave up 17 sacks this season. I don’t remember many. I assume half were Angeli time, and half the rest were eight yard losses that Leonard turned into two yard losses.

Also, scroll all the way down to see Oklahoma and Florida State. Woof.

Leonard has been sacked 14 times on 383 dropbacks. Angeli 3 times in 33 drop backs.

I think a few of those Leonard has just eaten also. It’s probably closer to 8 - 10 true sacks.

Depending upon who decides to come back and who decides to enter the draft, UGA could break their own record of 15 guys drafted set after the '21 season. To note, this list is for 2025 draft eligible players and doesn't include under classmen.

1) Jalon Walker - LB
2) Mykel Williams - Edge
3) Malaki Starks - S
4) Smael Mondon - LB
5) Nazir Stackhouse - DT
6) Warren Brinson - DT
7) Chaz Chambliss - Edge
8) Daylen Everette - CB
9) Tate Ratledge - OG
10) Trevor Etienne- RB
11) Dylan Fairchild - OG
12) Jared Wilson - C
13) Xavier Truss - T
14) Arian Smith - WR
15) Dominic Lovett - WR
16) Carson Beck - QB

Definitely recall a few times where Leonard was getting heat, or even in a defender's grasp, eight yards back, then escaped and got tackled for like a two or three yard loss. The kind of sack that doesn't feel like one.

I do agree that some on this list could and/or should come back to improve their draft stock. With NIL it does become more likely that a borderline guy comes back, but I do think all of these guys would get drafted by the end of the third day.

For the sake of discussion, which ones do you disagree with?

Notre Dame, meaning “Our Lady,” carries the name and patronage of Mary, whose motherhood is celebrated on January 1, the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. As long as the game ends before midnight Central Time, it remains under her special day, making it fitting for her team to triumph as a symbol of faith, resilience, and grace.

It’s a good thing we’ve never lost a new years bowl game

The guys I bolded. Brinson, Chambliss, Truss, and Wilson. Probably Lovett too

The UGA OL and DL are very good. For all the talk about getting to the edge, speed, etc. this game is going to be an absolute dogfight in the trenches.
