Ex-Raiders QB Russell arrested on Ala. drug charge - Yahoo! News

MOBILE, Ala. – Former Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell has been charged with possession of a controlled substance — codeine syrup — after being arrested at his home in Alabama on Monday, authorities said.
The 24-year-old former LSU star and the No. 1 draft choice in 2007 was arrested as part of an undercover narcotics investigation, said Mobile County Sheriff's spokeswoman Lori Myles. She would not say what led to his arrest. She said he did not have a prescription for the codeine.

I heard there were a couple of teams interested in bringing him in for training camp...I guess he can forget about that.

He continues to challenge Ryan Leaf for biggest bust of all time. Tony Mandarich needs company also.

I think he blows Leaf out of the picture. Ryan Leaf was guaranteed about 11million, JRUSS got $39million for his entire NFL career - including a 3.5 million buyout of his last year (this upcoming year).

I think Ryan Leaf is officially off the hook.

any team interested in him, simply has not done their due diligence. Its not even a good gamble.

Team Robatussin is sending a scout.

Too funny. But the entire story is a bit of an eye opener for me. I never heard of Purple Drank before.

Is this really a good reason for undercover work? Cough syrup? With 7-UP and Jolly Ranchers? Hell, I buy Jolly Ranchers by the crate. It makes sense now that a coworker saw me choose a grape Jolly Rancher and he commented "So you use that?"

Football athletes bust a finger and a toe on every friggen play. Pain ensues. Will the next undercover job happen when they find out someone takes Baby Aspirin with water and lime?

Cough syrup. And an athlete is exiled for life? Someone help me out here...

I know the Jets were showing interest at one point, and I think the Vikings also. Regardless, if he's planning on ever playing football again, it will be in the UFL, or maybe in Canada.

So what do the undercover agents, after discovering a cough syrup user, do to celebrate?

Go home and get drunk and smoke?

Watch dogfights?

Canada doesn't want him, Ricky Williams was a bust and J'Russ' agent needs to hire him a babysitter. Guess they're both "smart like a stump" I'd say he's done in the NFL forever but Vick got another shot, I bet OJ would too if he was of playing age.
