This needs a list to juxtapose of all of the recruits Kelly and Co have "taken" from other programs, I'll start:

TJ Jones (Stanford)
Stephon Tuitt (Georgia Tech)
Max Redfield (USC)
Amir Carlisle (USC)
Will Fuller (Penn State)
Durham Smythe (Texas)
Doug Randolph (Stanford)

Louis Nix (Miami)

Committed between coaches, but Kelly kept him.

Both Floyd and Te'o coming back for their senior campaigns says something too, IMO

I think this thread is missing the point (at least mine anyway).

It was never a bash BK thread. With the exception of pat, everyone here thinks he's doing an amazing job recruiting and building the program. This is simply a place to express our frustrations with losing so much elite talent. It's a shame... If some of those kids didn't have girls back home or crazy parents the team could be in a much better position this year.

Funny story... many stories locally about UC have said that Bennie Coney is putting himself in a nice position to be the QB of the future once Brendan Kay and Munchie Legeaux are gone after this season. Gunner even has his hands full at UC.

Are these really the Cincinnati QB's names??

They sound like a roster for an 11 year old's stickball team.

I have no quality input to add in regards to recruiting but I will leave everybody with this: My friend has a Cat named Albert Felinestien and another named Leonardo DiCatrio..... I think its f*cking hilarious.

Sh:t happens. You roll with the guys that are here and don't worry about the guys that aren't.

I have only really been following recruiting for as long as I've posted here, so this is the fourth class I've really paid attention to. When I first joined here it was in the midst of the Tuitt/Lynch stuff. And at the time, all the reaction here seemed totally reasonable to me. But I didn't really understand recruiting or how often this stuff happens. Now I can't bring myself to care all that much. At the end of the process, we're going to end up with 20 or so of the best and brightest high school athletes in the country. There are going to be thousands upon thousands of kids that don't end up at ND. Can't lose sleep over them.

Couple things from me:

1) While there are plenty of elite players to decommit/transfer/etc from ND on this staff's watch, they still have out-recruited the previous two regimes combined. You have to get 'em before you can lose 'em. Plenty of kids will come and go but at the end of the day, all that matters are the ones that choose to be at ND and become developed by this staff (which does a helluva job at that).

2) I'd like to add Schutt and Gio Bennard to the list too. Granted Gio came at a time of coaching change, but still....he was committed for awhile and is was the first RB taken in this year's draft.

Big difference with us recruiting 5*'s vs other schools are :
1. the majority of them are in it to get to the league(is ND the easiest path? NO WAY)
2. the 5* generally has pretty high self esteem and swagg(i f'ng hate this word) and want their ego's stroked, a lot easier when your asked not to do the same requirements of a regular student, given breaks everywhere, "handouts" $$$$ among other things
3. while there are definitely exceptions such as Jaylon who just does NOT fit the mold of a 5* mentality , Vandy/Duke/Stanford(besides a qb) when do they ever land a 5*???

you can't compare us losing a 5* to FSU, osu ,um etc because they are completely different in the classroom and if you were a 5* and you didn't get immediate playing time and had hard courses...it's a hell of a lot easier to swallow tough academic courses when your getting playing time....but not so much when you feel overwhelmed by the courses and on top of that not playing.....I'm sure it does something to that confidence and swagg

I get worn out just trying to stay up with you guys on ND recruiting let alone other schools. My question to you is this......How do we compare to other major programs when it comes to losing recruits, especially 5 star kids?

I didn't see it mentioned anywhere, but did we forget about Diaco and 4am coffee with Ishaq?

+1 Good points. I completely forgot to add that to my post above. "The 5star mentality..." It's a real thing. Not everyone fits that mold, but the majority are looking for football factories. I'm thankful the staff goes after those guys regardless, but when (not if) ND loses a few, we shouldn't jump off a cliff.

You have to wonder if some of these guys second guess their moves after the decision is made. Guys like Greenberry and Lynch could have been playing in or attend the NCG. Theres a good possibility we'll make it back to a big BCS game in the coming years as well. They won't be able to say the same at their current schools. I'm sure their draft status won't change regardless where they go, but the education they receive and the experiences they have will surely be vastly different.
