--Suffered a significant knee injury against Navy
--out for the season
Nose Guard Louis Nix
--Nix missed the last two games due to knee tendinitis. He also has a small tear of his meniscus.
--Nix is getting an MRI on Sunday to figure everything out
Kelly on Nix: "We want to see where he's at. This is more for Lou to make a decision where he's at, so he feels he's capable of playing the rest of the season. we are taking extra care to make sure he's good to go. We want to give him all the information."
Nose Guard Kona Schwenke
--high ankle sprain suffered as a result of a cut block against Navy.

Kelly on Watt:
"It's a matter of managing it. it's loose. feeling of instability there. In pre game, he felt he couldn't do some of the things he wanted. As he adapts to it, i think this week he will feel more comfortable."

--will play vs Pitt.
Safety Austin Collinsworth

Those injury updates in addition to the players who are already out for the season like: Defensive lineman Tony Springmann, safety Nicky Baratti, linebacker Danny Spond, linebacker Jarrett Grace, wide receiver Daniel Smith, offensive lineman Christian Lombard.
Sucks hearing about all of these ligament injuries. How the hell did Nix finish the game against USC? Is Kelly overstating his issues?
Without Nix/Schwenke/Day/Ishaq our DL basically looks like...
Tuitt-Jones?-Rochelle?
With no depth behind them for spelling. Playing against service academies with their cut blocks really might have derailed our season.
So it'll be.........
DE: Tuitt, Utupo
NT: Lou (?), J.Jones, Stockton
DE: Rochell, J.Jones
CAT: Shembo, Okwara
ILB: Fox, Schmidt
ILB: Carlo, Moore
DOG: Smith, Rabasa
Also remember houndshell is out for year
Hounshell is back in pads I believe.

Honestly this is huge, with no depth at all it really comprises any chance at BCS.
This isn't my concern as of right now, but some issues we will have in the future--recruiting of DLine. We are going to lose Tuitt, Nix, and Kona for next season. And we have 1 NT for next season and zero/0 NT from the 2013 class.
Kelly has done a very bad job getting good NT's here. Very bad actually. And this will be concern in the future.
And still, right now sure hope Nix can play at a high level we really need it.
Didn't Tuitt already say he's coming back next year?
plain and simple: Cut blocks need to be taken out of the game. I don't want to hear the "they're too small for traditional blocking". If that's the case, don't play major college football.
Could not agree anymore than I do. If you don't agree and think they don't hurt, check out the above injuries. Players would much rather be hit in the head than at the knees.

Not really an update though since this has been known all season.
Jarron Jones better step up. Our ILBs are horrible so if we don't get a good push up front it'll get ugly, especially against a mobile QB like Taysom Hill.
So because two of our guys got injured due to cut blocks, they should be outlawed now?
ND SID tweeted this afternoon that Nix will practice this week, so he's likely to play this weekend. Then we have an open date after Pitt for guys to get healthy. We should have Ishaq back by BYU, and hopefully Kona as well.
This could be really bad next week though. If Nix and Day can't go, then we don't even go 2 deep across the DL. Okwara may have to play some DE. Is it crazy to give Niklas some reps on D this week? Desperate times call for desperate measures? I'm only half joking.
Very surprised at BK's performance recruiting DTs. One would have to think a few stud DTs would see our depth and jump right on the bus.
If we don't grab a few this year and next, we'll likely have to start looking at our OL, or fatten up our DEs.
