I work for a media company here in New Orleans. I was talking to my boss this morning, and he said that it would be nice if we could get some quotes from ND fans, talking about how they feel about playing in the Sugar Bowl. I was like, hmm, I think I can make that happen.

So how do you feel? Lemme know. All quotes will be anonymous, unless you indicate otherwise.

Speaking from SEC country: "Do the Tigers like Cheerios?"

By the way Maison, I found myself arguing for Michigan this morning, ugh!

I think it's an honor for the Irish to participate in the Sugar Bowl a year after it had to be moved due to Katrina. There will be a lot of emotions swirling around the game, much like when the Saints played their first home game back in the dome.

As for the opponent, LSU is a great matchup with tremendous recent success and a long history of playing good football. It will be a tough game and a real test for the Irish.

I think Notre Dame playing in the Sugar Bowl against LSU is a perfect match-up at this time in the city's rebuilding efforts. Notre Dame is a nationally recognized program that will bring the attention the city and the bowl could definitely use. LSU is a powerhouse program that would bring a real legitimacy to a Notre Dame team if the Irish can pull off a win.

I think that the bowl matchup is great for the city. A big national power with a large fan base against a local favorite with a huge swell of support, all in a city that is getting back on it's feet.

However, with regards to the actual matchup, and being a Notre Dame fan: I have this sudden urge to stab myself in the face. I'm assuming that's not really a quality quote, though. : D

Playing LSU instead of Florida makes me want to run into a knife. LSU is a very tough matchup for ND.

It should be an exciting time for the City of New Orleans. Not only does the Sugar Bowl return to town after a year's hiatus, but the game will host two of the best college football traditions going. On one side, the home state Tigers that will get to play in front of their familes and friends. On the other, The Fighting Irish and all of the tradition that comes with them.

For a city that is trying to rebuild itself, what better of a matchup than these two teams?

LSU has already proven this year that it can beat good teams and play very impressively when they need to. Many feel that Notre Dame is yet to do that. In this respect, from a sheer football standpoint. I feel that Notre Dame has more to gain from a win than LSU does. Notre Dame will have a daunting task in front of it though. Russell is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. And if LSU's offense shows up in a big way against Notre Dame, it could be a long day.

LSU's two losses were more because they couldn't put enough points on the board, than because of a suspect defense. (i.e. a 7-3 loss to Auburn). Notre Dame's problem has been the opposite, and inability to stop high-powered offenses. Like many of these games that stack a great offense against a great defense, the winner of the game is normally the one that wins the other side of the battle. In this case, LSU's offense against Notre Dame's defense. I think LSU has the edge here. But special teams and turnovers will undoubtedly play a big role. As these two teams are a comparable match.

If I were actually going to the game my quote would be more like this:

"I'm going to eat and drink a whole hell of a lot. Wanna see my wife's thingies? Oh, and Go Irish!!!"

Notre Dame will have its hands full playing such a talented team like LSU. The will have to come with their 'A' game and find some answers to some serious defensive quesitons.

Here's a quote for you.

"It's a doggie eat dog world in the press for Notre Dame right now and were wearing milk bone underwear"

I have seen LSU in two games this year, the game where they beat Alabama and the game where they lost to Florida. This team scares me a lot and probably is one of the worst match-ups we could have gotten. They have a team of just great athletes and superb speed on both sides of the ball. If you look at Notre Dame's losses in recent years, you find that it was to very similar teams as LSU. Ohio State, Michigan, and USC all have great athletes and speed on both sides of the ball and our we do not match up well with this. I am still going to cheer like a madman for my Irish, but I am a bit pessimistic.

I think it's a fabulous matchup for New Orleans and a great prospect. Notre Dame have an awful lot to prove in this game, since a lot of people don't think they deserve to be in the BCS at all. LSU are very unlucky to have lost twice and I would consider them the best two loss team in the country (yes, better than USC), so the Irish will have to play better in this one than against it's last two powerhouse opponents. Hopefully with Carlson back we can see the Irish pull off the win (and upset, the lines opened at -8.5 for LSU).

How's this:

America's greatest team, trying to recapture their glorious past...
The South's greatest juggernaut, proven to be big and fast...
America's greatest venue, hosting the Sugar Bowl.... at last...

America's greatest venue, hosting the Sugar Bowl again.... at last...
and for post game, a big kick in the nuts!

I'M KIDDING!!!

But really. It's a very good matchup for all the storylines. ND will always have those, and any Louisiana team in this day and age will have them as well. The media will be all over this. However, the talent levels of the two teams are fairly disparate.

Anyway, win or lose, here's to New Orleans getting the best out of this bowl.

Notre Dame and New Orleans.

Both struggled through tough times and inept management.

Only one had the sense to change management.

Freaking awesome man. People here always have a sense of humor.

There's a new alternative magazine around here now, kind of like the Onion, only focused on local issues. It's called "The New Orleans Levee" and its motto is "We Don't Hold Anything Back."

It beats playing the South Central Louisiana State University Mud Dogs for the Bourbon Bowl.

(yes, that's the second Waterboy reference in about a week)
