Stay safe NDFan. We are staying on the OBX (Corolla) at the end of September.

We're going to try. The weather people are saying that this one will be worse than Isabell. Isabell was pretty bad. All we can do is wait it out.

The OBX should be back to normal by then, so don't sweat it. They do a great job at storm clean up there.

My friend where ever you are do not wish Irene on you. She is passing West Palm Beach off shore about two hundred miles hitting us with on and off mini rain-winds squalls. But can live with them my lake won't meet me in my living room at least this storm.

I'm going to talk to the wife when I get home. She may want to go farther in-land. I defitinitely won't have a problem with that.

Am I the only one on here that is super-excited for the hurricane to come through? Pretty much everyone I know in real life is excited. Weather is weather. I know Katrina was bad for people in Nola, but that was kind of a freak thing with the levies and whatnot. I love going some place high or near the coast and watching the storm. Just a little wind and some rain. People are too uptight. It isn't like a tornado that will lift your house up and put it down 40 miles away. If your house isn't on the beach it'll survive.

um, sorry but i've lived thru some bad hurricanes and based on your comments....you haven't. it's not just a little wind and some rain. the winds get up to 100 mph or so. it'll tear roofs off houses and knock over any tall sign (i.e. gasoline station signs, etc.).

you can't treat a hurricane lightly just becuz you don't live on a beach.

Looks like Sunday will be a good day for the IE fantasy draft as long as there are no power outages for anyone.

I've been through 4 or 5 hurricanes since I've been on the east coast. When I was moving to Norfolk from Pascagoula, MS., I went straight through one in Alabama. That was bad. But this one has me even more concerned than any of the other ones I've been through.

Look guys, it's a Hurricane. Just hook it up with a rolex, a bag of cash, and prostitutes and you should have no problem.

Tough Times

Tough Times

Brother I will pray for you and the other good souls in Irene's path. We only got light squalls as Irene passed West Palm Beach out in the ocean and today is sunny but a light wind. If the storm is heading you way the feeder storms will zonk you a day before and they are bad. Every hurricane plays its own individual game and you don't know how they play out until the storm is over. A few years ago we had a bad tropical storm that dumped nineteen inches of rain on us and North of us close to forty inches. So down here a lightning or tropical storm are big deals. But the hurricanes are the true big daddys and truly scare the hell out of us. Only good news about hurricanes they generally pass through fast and the rest is recovery time.

If your house isn't on the beach it'll survive.

I don't know if anyone else commented on this specific sentence but my fiance's father lives near Houston about a 45 minute drive to Galveston. During Hurricane Ike, which was after Katrina, the whole top part of their house was ripped off. Other damage was done to others and stores. So just because you are not near the beach, things can still be devastating.

With every hurricane I have been through down in West Palm neighbors have trees go through their roofs or sides of house and we always near flood and we are in a good flood zone and fives miles from the beach. The lake nearby came up to my patio and foot door from a Category One Hurricane.

Hey a note of levity I always check out when media over plays us with Michael Jackson, Tiger Woods blah blah blah. Been through New York and Florida hurricanes but to listen to the Weather Channel and cable news Irene is going to bring the near end of the world to New York. So bad that King Kong to find dry ground is going to go back on top of the Empire State. Now the Weather Channel is babbling Irene may be downgraded to a tropical storm but then play hype and say that is going to be bad bad too. Irene may hit New York hard but doubt one tenth of the horror scenarios they describe will go down. Frankly suspect we are being hustle hyped by media again. They turned a Category 2 hurricane into a new horror movie Category Six. Natch I do not trust media period.

Irene made landfall at Cape Lookout, NC this morning. We started getting high winds & rain early this morning. We've already lost some fence panels. Looks like I know what I'm going to do tomorrow and Monday.

Fun fact... they're playing the Major League Lacrosse playoffs in the leading edge of hurricane Irene right now. The games are in Annapolis, MD and they are absolutely getting dumped on. Really, really sloppy/fun games to watch on ESPN2 right now if you're bored.

Just started raining here in McLean, VA. I have the privilege of having to work at my office until around 5, a few hours before it's supposed to get bad. Lucky me.

I remember my first hurricane. We call those thunderstorms in Louisiana. Seriously though, be safe if you're in its path.

Satellite went out for a little while, but we never lost power. The high winds & rain are supposed to continue until later tonight. This really hasn't been as bad as what everyone was predicting.

Over Hype

Over Hype

The Weather Channel is over hyping Irene regards New York City where they have cooked up every which what doomsday scenario. Listening to them Irene is a Category 10 latest horror movie. In contrast last night on MSNBC their weatherman was not over hyping stating often Irene may turn out to be a tropical storm with a lesser degree of damage but much rains. Yet when Jim Cantore on the Weather Channel discussed Irene turning into a tropical storm he still ranted all the doomsday horrors about to hit New York again. Hey New York subways flood out often from broken water lines due to old infra structure. Plus New York is cement city and most live in six story tenements. With the aftermath of a 1944 hurricane us Bronx kids kids saw only one tree down. We were surrounded by our six story tenements. For thirty years I rode out hurricanes by the beach in Queens and Florida hurricanes are so much worse. The only one who should be evacuated from New York City is that jack *** Mayor Bloomberg.

My sister in Wilmington, NC lost power about 4:30 am. Incredibly it was restored before 10 am. Damage minimal - shingles, tree limbs, and wind blown debris.

Yeah, I heard one guy say on TV that Wall Street would be under 20 feet of water and I LOL'd.

One of the best stories I've read:

A live weather report from a hurricane-whipped city in the US took an unexpectedly cheeky turn yesterday when it was interrupted by a group of male streakers, including one who decided to bare all.

Weather Channel reporter Eric Fisher was in the middle of a live cross in blustery Virginia Beach, battling wind and rain from the impending monster storm, when a group of bare-chested young men ran behind him, jumping up and down.

One of the men then pulled down his shorts to flash his behind, before turning around to reveal full-frontal nudity to everyone watching at home.

Fisher told viewers he was "pretty much speechless" about the number of people he saw partying in the streets of Virginia Beach , despite the hurricane's winds whipping around, the Huffington Post reports.

Streakers interrupt live hurricane report

No power now for almost 20 hours. Terrible flooding. My homes okay but tons of my friends had to be evacuated saturday night due to flooding. Luckily I live on a hill but numerous basements and some first floors were ruined. Say a prayer because the Delaware passaic and raritan rivers are not expected to reach their peak til tomorrow

Well we got lucky. Glad the storm down graded before it got to us. the new moon helped us alot our tides were really low which helped the flood waters stay low. We only lost power for a few hours. Not alot of wind damage either. We did have a leak at our house so i have some work todo.
