I think he will be pretty god but not be given the job to start the year. He may come in a few games and may finnish the year as the starter.

Agree that it would be shocking if he doesn't start by Soph season, will all the improved talent coming in on O he should have an easier time than BQ did. BQ got shellacked a couple times with Ty's great O lines.

I think one of the more experienced QB's will start the season, but if things go south where we aren't in line for a big name bowl game then I think Weis puts in Clausen in preperation for next year. I think weis has his hands tied here a little, Clausen pretty much has to start by his soph. year or I think he transfers out. He came to play at ND for Weis, and play as early as possible. I don't see him sitting for more then a year without getting transferitis.

I think he should start from the beginning for more experience. so what maybe we have only a decent season. but in the end it will all be good. look at colt mccoy how good he did this year as a freshmen

I would be happy if he reach the level of an All American. If he does; then that means that ND is doing pretty good.

I really don't care who starts as long as they are the person for the job. For instance if Jones comes out and has a tremendous year and beats out the the other three, and as long as ND wins I don't care who the QB is. I'm not saying Jones will be starting just using him as an example.

It is entirely possible that if Jones or Frazer wins the starting job and keeps winning games, they could hold on to the starting job all the way until graduation. That would keep Clausen out of the starting spot until his senior year... 2010.

Everyone on here keeps assuming that Clausen really is as good as everyone says he is. Frazer and Jones ain't exactly chopped liver. Hell, neither is Sharpley, for that matter.

Pollyanna, I've got Ron Powlus for you on Line 1. Thank you.

At least these four guys have an Offensive Coordinator and a coach with a history of developing passing QBs.

Oh, indeed. And it's not like Powlus was exactly a train-wreck either. But he never came anywhere near the hype.

And now we're doing it again with Clausen.

Just seems silly to me to ask a question like "How good will Clausen be?" when we can't even be certain he'll play at Notre Dame at all.

I would "hope" Clausen would start this season from the first game the reason being why is if he beats out sharpley which i think is on the bottom on the QB skills wise, DJ and most of all Frazer then he should be the real deal that everyone builds him up to be because those qb's could be starting eventually for half the d1 programs out there

As highly touted as this guy is, if he doesn't win the heisman with Weis's offense it will be a disappointment.

I would like to see him sit this season and learn the system...let the top 3 fight it out and then if clausen can beat out the best of the three from this year he starts next year

I think if he is good enough to be All American, he should win the Heisman, with all the publicity going to a ND QB.

I think Clausen will be wonderful. Now, it will depend on how wonderful Frazer, Sharpley, and/or Jones turn out to see if Jimmy wins the Heisman, becomes an All-American or even starts. If one of the other guys beats him out, Jimmy could be the second best QB in the country and not win those awards.

But I think if he wins the starting job and stays healthy, he will become at least an all-american.

If JC isn't starting by 2008 I think he never plays a down at ND. I just don't think he sits here for 4 years. I think he sits one year and then comes in next year, he is by far the most polished pure passer that we have now. From what I have read Frazer needs work on his delivery, Jones isn't a great passer yet and I think talent wise Sharpley is behind the other 3.

I hope that Clausen is a good QB, but if he isn't starting, he obviously isn't better than the guys ahead of him at the depth chart. I think, whoever is starting is (in theory) the best QB on the team. Just because he was given more publicity and possibly overhyped, doesn't mean he is really the best player......ever.

If he doesn't start his freshman year, then he obviously isn't ready. If he never starts, then perhaps he isn't as good as expected, or the other QBs are simply play better for whatever reason. Just because he has the better known name, doesn't mean we should automatically give him control of the team.

As long as we win games, it doesn't matter who is QB. Sure, if the season is going down the shitter, then throw him in and see how he does. Overall, if he is as good as he is proclaimed to be, then I see him starting his soph. year and getting an All-American, with possible Heisman in his Sr. year. One question I have is how tough is he, and can he disect a defense. No offense, but sometimes he appears to look like a dear in headlights; or that he is staring off into space.
