What happens if Michigan wins? Where does that put your program with CW? As a fan, what kind of mark would this put on your season?

I think you should be worrying about your coach, rather then CW. RichRod better watch out, CW and his staff should be focusing on their recruits.....because michigan is a sinking ship...and recruits jump off sinking ships.

In all seriousness to answer your question, it wouldn't change anything on how I view CW. I think he is a great coach, and not every team is meant to win every saturday, even if you are the better team on paper. Now, if we continue to lose a lot this season, THAT is a different story.

It would probably be the beginning of the end for CW. But, ND will not lose this game.

it would definitely suck for the next week or so, but it would have to depend on what happens the rest of the season, with both teams.

Charlie will be judged by the entire season not by one game. if he loses, how he loses and who he loses to will all be factors of the season as a whole.

I cant for the life of me figure this out but, some fans and alums would almost root for a loss just to turn up the heat on Charlie and bring him one step closer to being fired.

But for a diehard ND and Charlie fan(like me!) a loss would hurt immensely. But I will stick by my coach until he is no longer the coach.

BTW - ND wins a tough one and Charlie will be the ND coach for a long time.

It really depends on what kind of loss it is. But as silly as it sounds, the USC would be a must win for Charlie's job.

If Michigan wins I get in a shitty pissed off mood for the rest of the afternoon.

As far as CW is concerned I think everyone is expecting a loss or two this year if he can keep it at that he won't have a problem no matter who that loss or two ends up being against.

If Michigan wins, Rodriquez might save his job!

As for ND only a few of us anticipated a perfect season. I still do.

And if we don't win Saturday, 11-1 is still impressive.

Since Michigan comes before MSU, Michingan is indeed the beginning of the end, if you want to get technical. :) A loss at Michigan may just let the air out of this team in a hurry. That's why I answered the way I did.

Honestly Blue, I don't even want to think about it. It would hurt this Irish fan, and millions of others, really badly...

if we lose, it's not going to cause much of stir in my opinion. it's on the road against a traditional rival where anything can happen. granted i'll still be ticked off if we lose. i'm expecting a big win!!!

Honestly most of the fan base is expecting a 500 year, maybe a win or two more, so long as it's viewed as a good game he's still fine.

As for losing recruits, you're wrong, we're losing recruits that don't fit the system or were buried in the depth chart. With the exception of Boren. There was a list of all the transfers that happened this year on Phil Steele's site, and Michigan wasn't even near the top in number of transfers. I'll try and find the list.

I'm talking about incoming, potential recruits; not players already on the roster who are leaving. All this press that michigan has got for the last month doesnt look good. to the average recruit, they see bad headlines concerning michigan. they see players snitching on the coach, they see Justin Feagin getting popped for being a DRUG DEALER. They see RICHrod linked to shady boosters. if all of this richrod bad press continues to happen, he wont be able to get any real kids to commit. leaving a void, that ND being a power in the region, should be able to slide in and take some recruits.

I dont care about xfers and the like...let them to go Northern Illnois, or let them be LB's at Cincinnati for all I care.

RichRod is not having problems recruiting. He lost players who didn't like him, his system, their prospects for PT, or how he worked them. Remember the turnover in players when Weis he started at ND? Meyer had it each time he arrived at a new school. It's fairly common when a new coach and/or system takes over. And as did Weis and others before him, RichRod can point to those vacancies and tell a recruit he was a slot available now.

In 2009 Rivals had UM ranked #8 with 22 recruits with a 3.59 star rating. ND was 21st with 18 recruits and a 3.44 star rating. Considering ND took 3 Special Teams players (2 kickers and a long snapper which traditionally get low star rankings) the two classes were a push.

As for 2010 recruiting ND is currently 10th with 15 recruits and a 3.53 star rating. UM is 13th with 18 recruits with a 3.22 star rating. Again not much of a difference separating the two teams.

If UM has another losing season like the last one, yeah, he would have a tougher sell both to recruits and alumni. If he gets to .500 he can claim progress. If he gets bowl eligibile he gets annointed for righting "Carr's" sinking ship ala Weis after Tyrone.

I don't think Saturday's game is make or break for Weis but it is more significant to his job security than Rodriquez's.

If Charlie loses this one, don't ever expect to beat Michigan while DickRod is there.
I'm as excited at the prospect of a huge win for ND, but the closer this game gets the more worried I get. Especially after last years game. And you can debate the point all you like but, aside from the fumbles, they outplayed ND. For most of that game.
And now that DickRod has his QB in place, its a frightening prospect that ND could actually lose this game. Take that with a grain of salt because I am speaking (as I do a lot around here since there is a lot of kool-aid) as the devil's advocate.

Mark my words that if ND doesn't beat Michigan this year, in a supposed rebuilding year for them, in a year where all Charlies boys are in place, then you will not beat them for a very long time.

I'd say more pragmatic than devil's advocate.

I always laugh when I read or hear stuff like that. Jimmy would have won the heisman had he not thrown interceptions. We would have beat Syracuse had we made field goals. We would have beat MSU had Floyd not fumbled on the three. We would have beat UNC had Jimmy not thrown a pick 6 to start the second half. We would have beat Pitt if Jimmy hit a wide open Floyd in the endzone. You got my point. Fact is... GOOD TEAMS MAKE THOSE PLAYS. GOOD TEAMS DON'T FUMBLE ON EVERY POSSESSION. GOOD TEAMS ALSO RECOVER THE BALL. (sorry about the tone LA ND but I am trying to make a point.)

I just took a look at their verbals. I don't know if we offered anyone besides Gardner and I suspect Weis is happier with Hendrix for his system. ND and UM have both offered a few of the same players but I don't know of any where ND and UM are the two top contenders.

Schadenfreude means more to opposing fans than recruits. Correct me if I'm wrong but RichRod was connnected to one shady booster not boosters plural and that was a real estate deal when he was an assistant coach quite a few years ago. I've read of no NCAA violations in that matter, have you? Feagin got tossed. So did Fauria. I'd have a tougher time as a recruiter explaining why Fauria got tossed than Feagin. Now if Feagin has fellow dealers on the team that would be damaging. UM "might" have broken NCAA practice rules, no doubt they stretched the envelope - as do quite a few other teams. But until there are NCAA sanctions (which I don't expect) it's of more interest to the UM alumni who still want Carr or anyone other than Rodriquez. Those allegations aren't troublesome to UM recruiting. And if Rodriquez beats ND those unhappy UM alumni will celebrate his brillant strategy.

Here I sit in the middle of UM country and believe me when I say that I couldn't stomach an ND loss with as many friends that I have that are UM fans.
But reality is what it is.

To be honest I can see no reasonable excuse for ND to lose this game. I know....it's a road rivalry game and there are going to be a 110,000 screaming hillbilly's, I get it. However there are a few basic things that IMO outweigh any reason to find a loss to Michigan acceptable.

1. Charlie is in his 5th year, 5th YEAR!
Every player on the team now was recruited by him and his staff.

2. Dickrod is only in his 2nd year and is still weeding out players that don't even fit his system.

3. Junior QB vs Frosh QB....nuff said!

4. Depth, Depth, Depth, we finally have it! And the drop off in talent at most of our skill positions is so small that most of the time I don't care who is on the field because I know any one of them can make a big play.

5. Michigan's drop off on the depth chart is significant in some areas. Espescially when it comes to having EXPERIENCED players on the field.

When I add up those very basic points I cannot see any, ANY reason to justify a loss. I have been a CW supporter since day one but I'm sorry if he loses this game HE SHOULD BE FIRED!
People want to talk about ND like we may have a legitimate shot at a BCS bowl game or even a shot at it all. Well let me tell you now, if we can't beat a 2nd year coach with newer players (some who have only played 1 college football game) then CW is doing something terribly wrong here. As much as I hated to here it I had to agree with Lee Corso last year before the bowl game when he said: " If you have the players you need, and the players are very talented and your still losing, it must be coaching."

I want CW to win this game and to continue being our coach for a long time. That would make me happier than anything but I will not justify a loss to scUM this year!

This game...this year, IT'S F#$kING PERSONAL!
