Told the seattle newspaper today that ND's stadium isn't that loud. He's either doing his best as a former USC guy to piss off ND, or he was comatose during the 2005 game.

People better be tailgating Saturday at 7 am to shut this guy up

With the exception of the '05 SC game and maybe a few others in recent history like the '93 Florida St game I think he is right. As more and more tickets go to the aging foie gras and chardonnay crowd, the noise in the stadium has gotten less and less over the years. They need to get back to the brat 'n' beer crowd to get the place fired up again.

How many stories have we seen on here and other boards about when people try to cheer and get rowdy at the stadium, they are told to sit down and things like that?

Well, he's actually right, most of the time. Too many old alumni, too many people yelling at you to sit down (they can kiss my ass, I never listen), not enough noise. I was at the Michigan last year, and it was awesome, the loudest I'd ever heard it. My wife was a senior at the time of the USC game in '05, and she said it was crazy as well, but aside from the student section, we're just not loud enough, consistently.

The funny thing about this though, is that a former USC guy is telling the media that OUR stadium isn't loud. Ummmmm, have you ever been to the Coliseum? Now that's a quiet crowd on almost all games, much quieter than ND...

So quiet you can hear the helicopters and gun shots outside the stadium.

Quieter even than the big house which is usually crickets but they designed the new skyboxes to craddle some sound and I did notice at ND/UM this year it actually seemed louder.

ND stadium is not intimidating at all. I went to Alabama / Auburn in 2004 and that was a fricken jungle, that was a helluva experience. You got your ass kicked for talking shit down there too.

No joke there, my man. I know a girl who lives in Atlanta. She (hardcore UGA fan) told me she got in a serious fist fight with a florida girl in the parking lot tailgating. I wanted to propose marriage over the phone. She's a hot blonde, too.

Haha - yes, the SEC is a hornets nest for visiting fans. I was neutral, I just always wanted to see Alabama/Auburn, kind of doing a check off list for the big rivalry games in cfb, just once a year go to an off the cuff game. This year Im going to hopefully hit UM/OSU.

I sat in the student section every year with my Mich student buddy (with my ND shirt -lol) and it was nothing to me. I got hit with lots of marshmallows but it was quiet for 110k people!!

For Holt - most of his visits: USC shut the crowd up pretty early. Wasn't much to cheer for. I'm sitting in section 12, Row E... about 10 yards from the band... I hope I have good reason to throw crap at those obnoxious SOBs.

I also think the Clemson/South Carolina game is always a good one. Those fans are rabid! Went to that game a few years ago at Clemson. It was nuts!!! My ears rang afterwards like I had just gone to a rock concert. I was totally neutral too, but I was freakin' loud!

Yea I was too. Too bad it was pouring or it would've been a whole lot louder. The OSU will be the loudest I will ever go to.

In defense of the ND student section, which I think does a great job, our school has waaaaayyyyy less students than most schools, especially the state schools. Hard to be as loud as other schools when you have less than half the total of their schools...

PSU has about 75,000 more students but the biggest thing is they don't have the ND Mall Cops nor ND Ushers.

We were in the front row of the end zone (opposite the tunnel) for the P$U game in 2006. The ushers kept telling us to sit down. I hadn't sat during a football game in my life up to that point. I was pissed, but I did high five Joe Montana and get to see our Irish crush the kittens. Overall, it was one of the greatest days of my life.

i grew up going to the stadium almost every home game and it's never been the loudest place in the world. i don't think it will ever be loud on a consistant basis. especially since you have to wait 50 years to get season tickets....

I remember games in the 70's - 80's - and, even Florida State in '93 where the noise disrupted the offense. We had that in the Nevada game - 2nd Q. They were befuddled... I let my daughter go to USC in '05 so I missed the actual sound level.

Unfortunately, I'd tend to agree. Other than USC '05, that place is a morgue. Time to eject the old asses and get some new blood in there.
