Freaking love the Fighting Irish patch the ROTC guys have on their Class As (old Army Dress Green Uniform).

Patch would look sweet on the uni.

I agree, but at the same time I'm kind of glad that they don't use it. The patch is something that those ROTC guys get the honor of wearing because they volunteered to fight for their country after school. That's not something, awesome as they are, that the football guys have done. While I'm all for honoring the troops and shared symbols of national pride (i.e. the flag), part of me thinks that a unit patch- even if it's just a ROTC patch- should be reserved for the members of that unit.

On the other hand...it's not like they enlisted and will actyally have to work for a living. And better ND wears an Army symbol than something from the Navy or Air Force :)

Thanks man! Greatly appreciated. I've got a satchel (no, not a man purse) That I adorn with patches from my travels.

Question: Would I offend any of our service members by adorning my "satchel" with said patch?

I don't think so, can't speak for others though. Individuals collecting patches is different than teams wearing them as part of their uniform, I don't think that I made that distinction clear enough. Just, if you do rock a satchel like that, try to do something good for God, Country, or Notre Dame. That's just one man's opinion, but I think it's fair.

The ND patch is a play off of what the Armored Divisions did with the triangle further broken up into three colors. Those patches are all similar, in the fact that they are triangles, but they have different symbols inside, one has a track to signify the armored division, another had a lightning bolt or something. I donno much about them, nor was I stationed with any armored units. I was light infantry.
With none so fair that they can compaaaaaaaaare, to the airborne infantry ah ha.

The football team should never get to wear that, unless they are honoring troops, or more pointedly, their classmates who made the commitment to their country. That's the only way I'd go for it, and I don't think it'd happen anyway.

Awesome! As an NCO, for some reason, it seemed like I always had officers from West Point to watch after. It would have been nice to have one from Notre Dame! I wonder who the highest ranking officer from Notre Dame is, and what banch of the service they're in? Hmmmm?

I always thought that was a cool patch....but I like them all. The only thing I never cared for was the upside down NCO rank some of the other services have....It looks Russian or something. LOL

SATCHEL! No, not me. After thinking about it, I have no business whatsoever applying that patch to anything that I own. I'm definitely not worthy of it. It makes me think back to my Grandpa Arnie who served under Patton, as the operator of an armored car in WWII. He was at the liberation of Dachau, and he probably wouldn't think too kindly of me displaying something that I had no part of.

My love for patches knows no bounds, but definitely has respect for those who protect our country.

That is all, and I'll step off my soapbox.

Well, I for one, who have served, have no problem with people that collect patches. My belief is that one understands the meaning of the patches.... Just don't tell all that you were SF, SEAL, there in the thick of it when you were not.

Speaking of that, Ha-do you know how man who did serve in the REMF ranks have their own PX uniform at home. I saw some of that stuff and just have to laugh, laugh, laugh....
