Are people still laughing at the II folks for saying ND needs to bring in 2 quality WR’s from the portal?

At one point we had a slot receiver (Faison?) trying to block a defensive end across the flow of the play on a run. It is a way deeper problem than play-calling. The offensive design is broken.

Every team in the country will be trying to nab quality WRs in the portal. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.

I live in West Virginia and was absolutely gobsmacked when Notre Dame hired Parker as the OC. I literally thought they were joking. He was awful at WVU. Some said because Brown micro managed the offense. I think Parker just sucked.

There is no one open, ever. I’m so used to guys like Pyne “missing” open receivers but with Parker it’s just guys completely covered every play. There is nowhere to go with the ball even if Sam was playing well. I don’t understand it.

The scheme is so, so bad. There is no attempt to scheme anyone open.

If the talent level is even, ND’s offense can’t do anything.

I usually side on the "no, the professional college football coach is in fact not an idiot."

I just know that I expect ND to put their big boy pants on and use their money to bring in a proven commodity. Anything less than that is inexcusable.

Absolutely no reason to think a college coach can’t be an idiot. There are idiots in every field. Especially the ones known for being the good old boys clubs/nepotism/needing an “in” to crack the door. Never in doubt is it a possibility that one of these people can’t wipe their own ass.

It is such a deep problem. It's why changing the play-caller now is not even that important. The offensive design is totally broken. Fans of all teams complain about predicting run/pass by formation all the time, but in this case, it is entirely true, everyone can tell what is coming by down and distance + formation, no sign-stealing required.

Nothing works in sequence. Estime does not run well laterally yet we ask this of him every game. Our route concepts do not complement one another. We have seemingly entirely abandoned things that once worked, like the splits-backs formation for Ohio State and play-action to the tight ends. Mitchell is out, sure, but Staes looked great early in the year, and now he is not even a part of things.

It is vital that Freeman hires someone with a system that is favorable to backs and tight ends this offseason. It is the strength of the team and we should lean into it. Ludwig would have been a great fit, but there are others out there. Joe Moorhead at Akron, Andy Kotelnicki at Kansas, Slade Nagle at Tulane, there are options.

I agree, and the same can be said for how they approach NIL. If you're not going to pay for recruits then you need to go all in and drop bag after bag for the top grad transfers at every single position of need.

Wanted to give Parker time to show growth but yeah I’m off the bandwagon after that second half and overall lack of production against good defenses.

The defense weathered the storm and continually put the offense in position to tie the game. The offense continually failed over and over again.

I’ll echo the above with my small knowledge of offensive play design, everything seems hard. We are running 2-3 tight end sets still with Evans out - why? The playcalling before end of half with 1st and goal from the 3 was horrendous.

Why aren’t > 50% of our pass plays out of play action? We barely run 10% play action.

1st down 13-15 were runs at one point. If we did try to pass on first down and incomplete, the 2nd and 10 run is still an automatic. Why?

If the line is getting beat late in the game, why not move the pocket and roll out?

I feel our route design concepts do not scheme a soul open. There is no where to throw the ball. Why?

I don’t know the answers to this, but I guarantee you there’s an OC that does. One that has an identity and a purpose for the plays being called. Right now there is no identity or purpose with our formations and play design.
