Do other programs on Notre Dame’s general level have seemingly yearly “that should never happen here” recruiting and coaching situations?
I don't know. You're going to have hits and misses, but to be THAT bad at recruiting and evaluations in back to back years at a premier program like Notre Dame...can't happen. If you're picking up at least 11 guys (Hopefully a few more) on each side of the ball each year you hope to hit on maybe half of them cracking the 2 deep within 2-3 years. Having basically 3 decent contributors out of 2 years of kids doesn't cut it. It leaves a gaping hole when it comes to upperclassmen and experience, forcing you to play a ton of freshmen and sophomores...and that's only if recruiting has gotten better.

Bama's OC hire this past offseason. 😏

But yes. Miami royally BLEW their coordinator hires Cristobal's first season. Gattis was a disaster and Steele (also a Bama coordinator now!) wasn't much better. They hired Shannon Dawson (from Houston) as OC and Lance Guidry (from Marshall) this past offseason and have looked light year's better than last year's team.

Clemson also had some WTF promotions that should've never happened in the past couple years.

We’re at the point of people stating how much better chip long is than our current OC… and there’s validity to it

Either one of Tulane’s or Memphis’ OC’s looks like they’d do the job.

Ha. One thing I’ll say about Long, maybe my favorite stretch of post-Holtz football were the games between Georgia and Miami in 2017.

Boston College - 49 points, 515 rushing
Michigan State - 38 points, 182 rushing
Miami, OH - 52 points, 333 rushing
UNC - 33 points, 341 rushing
USC- 49 points, 377 rushing
NC State - 35 points, 318 rushing
Wake - 48 points, 380 rushing

Chip Long, fuckface though he may be, gave me that, I will always be thankful for it.

Feels like a sign of what has become of this board to look back at all the replies to “how about we try Chip Long again as OC?”

Yup, that offense was insane right up to the point when teams figured out Wimbush couldn't actually throw.

I find it interesting that MF's mentor Luke Fickell gets a job at a historic O Line - Power run game school like Wisconsin and goes out and pays big bucks to land Phil Longo.
MF is a seemingly intelligent guy... There is a hope.

Hire Paul Chryst for OC. Fuck it. Him and Rudolph teamed up for some pretty damn good offenses at Wisconsin in a P5 before Rudolph left.

I honestly don’t know. He was with Chryst for 14 years, at VT I know he was paid top 10 o line coach money

It is possible Wisconsin wanted fresh blood after they began to struggle??

That’s what I was wondering. Maybe he got an OC (or co-OC) title?

USC’s defense is awful. We’ll put up respectable results due to opponent that mask the problems through the bye.

A close loss here is the worst case scenario.

Big question: has the team abandoned him?" We will see tonight
Team should play hard for themselves and it’s a big rivalry game….

When you’re unprepared and play like crap due to poor coaching, it may look like your abandoning a coach, but in reality a plan is not working

My point is they’re not going to lay an egg to prove a point or because they’ve abandoned their coach
