Yeah, 5 of 10 this year with a long of 54. He was 2 for 3 against Duke. Missed a 37 yarder but made a 45 yarder.

I'd rather not see him. Go for it on fourth down and try to score touchdowns. They're lucky Estime scored at the end because who knows what would've happened had they tried going for a 16-14 win.
Funny you said that because the sense of relief I had when Estime scored was mostly because I knew we wouldn’t have to attempt a field goal 🤣

Was the Duke DL barking go/hut? I couldn't hear the broadcast but so many false starts, and a few where multiple jumped simultaneously sure makes it seem likely.
It’s seems like one of the journalists (can’t remember who) intimated something to that effect…..that the DL was making sounds which contributed to the false starts.

Their QB was doing some weird clapping pre-snap that seemed to draw us offsides a couple of times early in the game as well. Wouldn’t be surprised if all that was by design.
Thats common and poor by our DL, but I bet their dl was doing something noise wise that isn’t legal

He did a good job of having an overly aggressive first clap that caused the ND D-Line to jump in the beginning. Seemed like we got that worked out fairly quickly.

Why wasn't Freeman lighting up the officials then? It's not like this happened on a single series, it persisted for an entire half. He should have damn near stopped the game before they addressed it. Again, If.

Is it against the rules? I sincerely don’t know…….and maybe he was getting on them about it. We only get a few shots of him during the game so I have very little insight into what he‘s doing on the sidelines during the game, pre-game, during half-time or post-game.

IDK either but thought it was. I thought it was lumped in with snap infraction. I could be wrong.

Curious what top-tier programs you’re talking about. Or did you miss the Georgia-Auburn game, Bama’s shitshow QB room and Louisiana State?

College football is little but setbacks, disappointments and angst. That’s why we love it.

Bama is clearly not a top-tier program right now. I think NIL is already playing a huge part in leveling the playing field. And their never-ending carousel of coordinators was going to catch up with them, sooner or later.

As for Georgia -- I think that speaks to the landscape this year. There are no unbeatable teams. But to my point, they didn't have a setback. They may be disappointed that they didn't throttle Auburn, but that's a program going for a three-peat. OSU managed to leave South Bend with a win. We saw three straight years where it seemed like we were witnessing the best college football team ever. And the next year there was a better team. These elite teams are not satisfied waiting for someone to come into their own. You can't play the "what if" game if you want to be elite. Windows in college football are a year or two, and we think letting someone learn on the job for two years is a good idea. This team is loaded. Good enough to beat Ohio State on the field. That game was lost on the sidelines. In a down year like the one we're in, we should be expecting to compete for a championship. I'm not even confident our OC knows that 3rd and 4 means you only need four yards. It certainly didn't appear that way on Saturday, at least.

I'm tired of being complacent about this sort of thing. We screwed up, promoted from within, and now we're paying for the lack of experience and know-how. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong and you guys keep receipts. I'm wrong a lot about a lot of things. But a large contingent of this board defended Tommy Rees as OC, as well, so I've got no reason to consider those same opinions when it comes to Parker. This feels a lot like the same song and dance.

I thought this had to have been contributing to it. But then I would have thought the linemen would tell Freeman and Freeman would get on the refs. But at least the second part didn't happen, so I figured I was making stuff up to make myself feel beter. Of course, with those refs, it's possible he did say something and they just didn't care.

Freeman didn’t start really getting on the officials until the reversed PI and the punt at the 1 … not only was it not reviewable it was not clear it crossed completely over pylon

Just because Freeman isn't animated or clearly yelling at the refs doesn't mean he didn't have a conversation with them IF there was some illegal stuff coming from the Duke O-Line.

Yes simulating the snap is a delay of game penalty

I did a quick search and it appears that the DL cannot mimic cadence or the snap count but there is nothing that says they can’t yell something like “Motion Right”, etc. If yelled abruptly right by the center, you could see that along with the crowd noise, could cause issues. I guess the refs could make a judgment call in that situation but we‘ve seen how many of those that have gone ND‘s way this season.

Just like teams firing HCs midseason, i think some teams are trying to get ahead of the carousel by firing coordinators so they will get early attention and maybe get a jump on the good ones. I mean, we dumped BVG pretty early in 2016 and that worked out really well with Elko.
It is a real signal you have given up on your season and are prepared to sacrifice commits.

I really hope he proves me wrong, but as I see it, Parker just isn't the guy. I hate that we have Hartman for one season, and we have a playcaller who should still have training wheels on in the FCS. Without Hartman's heroics in the last 90 seconds, this board would have their pitchforks out. Hartman and Estime are the only dudes making Parker look like he has any idea what he's doing.
I don’t get this at all. Hartman was pretty terrible on Saturday and he is a lot more experienced at what he does than Parker.

Elko would probably do that and bet the refs would not call it. Louisville will probably be preping the same way.

Yeah Hartman blows. Totally choked on Saturday.
Italics. Hartman was not very good Saturday but was able to put it together on that last drive. Parker plays a huge role too. I expected more from the QB and OC-hoping they learn and adjust. I have high hopes for Louisville and a 40+ point effort.

Hartman is not perfect and did not have his best game, I’d agree. Having his center get blown up on the regular and having a WR corps of consisting of a freshman, a converted running back and Tobias Merriweather may have contributed.
Hartman is not the problem here.

Parker is learning on the job lije Freeman and Rees. Let's see if he can continue to improve and become the OC we all want him to become.

You can count on one hand (and wouldnt even need all your fingers) the number of defensive minds in college football better than Mike Elko. It is not ideal, but there is no shame in being outcoached by Elko, especially considering the active WR room for the game. Now if it happens again and he has no adjustment then maybe raise some eyebrows.

That’s 100% correct. Look at what he did here and the assistants that he brought with him that then over for him.

People saying look out for him to go to Michigan state. I personally think that would be a stupid move for him. Wait for the Florida job to open up. Napier doesn’t look to be the man down their in the swamp.

Sure but talent talks more than coaching. Duke is a good team but doesn’t have the talent to match up with us, why they did a lot of unique stuff we never adjusted to.

Idk man if I were Elko I think that MSU job would be more attractive than Florida. He’ll get paid nearly as much without the expectations. They’re both desperate, but the bar is a hell of a lot lower in EL than with those jorts-wearing knuckleheads in Gainesville.

Brilliant discourse. I didn't post a dissertation... there are maybe four main points you could disagree with. Give it the old college try.

People like Elko aren't looking for low bar/low expectations. He probably thinks he's the best coach in America and there are dozens of others who think the same. Alphas.
