Stated differently, he did it because all schools do it.

And to be fair, I don't think anyone really saw this season coming.

A side note: Do we actually know how much money BK has guaranteed over the rest of his contract? It's not necessarily the entire value of the contract. After the Weis experience, and given BK's already-lengthy tenure here, I certainly hope Jack was savvier than to do a deal like that.

I don't think that's public knowledge and I agree with you that JS didn't guarantee the entire contract. I'm sure he built in escalators and trip clauses base on performance in all aspects of being the CEO of ND Football. If not, he isn't as smart as we give him credit for.

What's every ones opinion on Bryan Driskell?

I think he breaks down football better than anyone I've ever heard, but he's just not a good recruiting analyst (not sure if that's still his role, but when I was listening and he was also doing recruiting, I didn't like it).

He's great at Xs and Os, player development and player execution. Literally elite at it. But I wouldn't take his opinion on 'does BK get fired this year' over half of the people on this board's.

Does he have god connections to back up his opinions?

Lou from Rivals posted that their sources are saying a change could be in the works that would allow both sides to leave with dignity. Kelly not staying out west to recruit allows him to have meetings with the ND brass to discuss how the exit would work, and/or what needs to happen to turn this thing around. He also said there's nothing definitive one way or the other on anything happening.

I highly recommend you all check out ISD and Blue and Gold Illustrated's latest podcasts. TONS of great insight on coaching, recruiting, team play issues, next season and the VT game breakdown.

LOVE ISD, but does anyone else find Matt Freeman unbearable to listen to?

Can someone please start a thread on 2017 ND depth chart projections? I'd like to get this discussion going. I'm disappointed greatly about this season but very excited for next year.

apparently you never had the pleasure to listen to Don Criqui call a Notre Dame game before on the radio.....

Lol. He is like Gus Johnson compared to Matt Freeman. Dude sounds like he is permanently stoned.

I still can't believe this years team should be filled with all upperclassmen, from the recruiting class after attending the national championship game. Most teams that go to a title game, get loaded with talent for a few years after. We got a bunch of softies who can't wrap up and get their heads around when the balls in the air. And before anyone says it, I know a few went pro, but damn...not even bowl eligible. SMH

yeah I cannot get this years team. Seriously under delivered. I don't know what happened to this group. Did they fall apart in the locker room? Offseason cupcakes? ND has traditionally played down to the competition but what these guys did this year was way out there.

Thanks seniors for really softening the ND image. ND went from a team to be considered to low part of the totem pole. Great effort guys.

First things first-make a statement about the refs thru ACC channels or get a better ref deal-those guys were very bias on targeting calls this year and its plain to see they don't care much for Notre Dame cherry picking their conference. Jacks gotta say something. Second after special teams is totally redone develop a mental toughness approach and consult with Holtz on that one. Surely Lou would help out if asked. Third ditch the glitz feel on offense and run the ball with a blocking back in there at times. This was a soft football team but they do have athletes coming back. And lastly tell Kiser that he is not ready for the NFL- grow up in the position one more year if not 2. He's far from ready. Go back to the basics and try to win 7 games next year because what I see on the field is a bunch of unenthused football players. I know they are college guys with more on their plate than what you have at say Alabama but make up your mind if you like football and if not go somewhere else. I don't think they win 7/8 games next year unless there is a TOTAL mental overhaul. Kelly cant do much more except fire all the coaches and start over and you know that is not happening. Man are they a bad football team.

The most monotone, unenthusiastic speaker I have ever heard. I do like Mike and Jamie though

The only thing I don't like is Mike's use of the word "interesting".

At this point, it's like a secret code.

"Interesting" = Shit is going to hit the fan.

He forgot "5 Wide Fullbacks" and "This post brought to you by ND Nation."

I agree with some of what he's saying, but in some respects he's really stuck in the past on some things here. We needed to inject some energy in that stadium, and introducing music over the PA and the future Jumbotron are ways they're trying to facilitate it. Don't tell me "We'll cheer when we start winning." I've heard that one before. Undefeated in 2012 and that stadium was silent until the 4th quarter against Pitt, they should have been rocking to help preserve that streak and help keep the team in it. When they DID come alive it rattled Pitt's offense quite a bit in overtime. Why couldn't we do that sooner?

As far as the Field Turf, it's hard to maintain a natural surface in north-west Indiana through wet weather games. Playing surface isn't tradition, and grass doesn't win championships. If we do plan on being a fast team then Field Turf was the best way to help us maintain that speed. There's nothing worse than watching a young talent like Folston sliding around the field and negating a speed advantage against a team like Navy.

At the end of the day a lot of the changes made during BK's tenure have been for the better. The author was complaining about the admin trying to improve the Gameday experience. I realize ND is still selling out at home, but that doesn't always mean everyone is in the stands. The student section has appeared thin some years, even in decent years. It's no secret that lots of people these days are opting to stay at home and watch from the comfort of their couches and their Wifi networks. By improving connectivity, expanding bench seating dimensions, and heated spaces you're providing options to these fans to try and entice them to come out to the games still.

I just read an article on 247 that got me pretty excited. It was regarding Dec. 9th, the banquet. Four major recruits will be there. Joshua Paschal (my hugest want), Antjuan Simmons (would fill the void left by Pete Werner), Oliver Martin and Jamire Calvin. The two WR's are Army All Americans. They will all be at the banquet and spending the weekend with their parents. Also, many of our current commit will be there including Pouncey, Wright, Lugg, Holmes, Hainsey, Robertson and more. Seeing the quality of our current players/commits/staff along with the campus/facilities will be a huge boost to our chances with these kids. Wiltfong has CB in for Paschal and Simmons while Loy has a CB in for all four. My guess is we land Paschal, Simmons and one of the two WR's in the end. Hopefully at least one pulls the trigger that weekend but I think we'll have to wait.

If we could land all four it will go along way to make me happy in an other wise dismal season.
