Weird that his school is able to have such amazing recruiting despite all the kids asking for illegal benefits in order to visit.

Puzzling.

I'm all for kids getting paid if they've earned it, but wanting paid just to visit campus.
They are gonna fuck it up for everyone.

I agree it’s stupid and a waste of money. Kids are gonna visit 4 schools and get 20 grand.

Let the school pay it. Tuition’s already out of control
Actual tuition, at most schools tuition is lower than it was 30 years ago (adjusted for inflation). Don't be distracted by MSRP.

College tuition discount rates are ridiculously high at most private schools right now.

Give them the fee for visiting. When they sit down at lunch, make them pay for their lunch. lol

I'm sorry, I don't really care how much coaches get paid or TV contracts are worth or what tuition costs before or after financial aid, paying for visits is bullshit and reflects an entirely broken system.
I can't think of another industry in which you get paid real money to go on a job interview.

Because a job interview is a bad analogy. The kids asking for money aren't selling themselves to the school, the school is trying to sell themselves to the kids. There's lots of situations where high profile individuals are given things of value just to appear at a business.

Agreed with this. It would be more like a company paying your travel expenses to come to the interview.

I find this hilarious. How many of these idiots do you think will actually pay what the players are asking?

Fuck 'em.

Boosters at Auburn & TAMU jump to mind. Those two schools are the living metaphor of Lucy pulling the football away as Charlie Brown tries to kick it.
Right. They play each other this weekend too.

And if you look at what Freeze is saying in his pressers leading up to it, he's already tempering expectations with the Auburn fanbase. He's basically saying in between the lines that they need players because Harsin didn't leave him any.

So they're going to do what needs to be done.

Official visits have always been paid for. This is about showing up for an unofficial.

There’s a sales pitch going both ways.
And - in most cases - if someone’s being paid to “just appear at” a business it’s because their presence is being sold in some way, to clients or employees or whatever.
In recruiting, yes the school wants to attract the player to come there but outside of that the only people who care that some Top 100 recruit made an unofficial to Whatever U are people like us who pay way too much attention to recruiting.

Other top 100 recruits care.

You can dislike it, but saying "pay me" when the other party is begging for your time is as American as apple pie.

QB Keeler, a reporter friend of historic golfer Bobby Jones, said years ago: “Money, it’s going to ruin sports”. I believe he’s correct. Greed on both sides is ruining sports. Not only are athletes making ridiculous amounts of money, the money being paid is making it very difficult for the average Joe to afford to go to an athletic event.

Still the greatest of all time IMO. No one's come close to playing so few tournaments and still winning the big ones.
