Game Day Parking...

My Cousin is on the Planning/Zoning Commission for South Bend and he was just telling me the other day that they plan to build a parking garage right outside of ND Stadium....evidently it should open by Spring 2014. Should help keep parking costs down and make things a little less hectic around South Bend.

White Field $25. Exit off of the turnpike goes straight into the lot, and you exit the lot right on to the turnpike when you are leaving. Free shuttle or a short walk to the stadium plus a lot of people hanging out and tailgating.

You can park on campus on the Burke golf course, for, I think $40.
You can park across the highway on Saint Mary's and Holy Cross's field for $20.

$40 is a ripoff for parking, don't pay it! As long as you're not handicapable, White Field is the most you should pay at $25. There are a few places just off campus that will charge $20 with a short walk.

I'm going out there this weekend and am intrigued by the parking at Holy Cross but am wondering how much a huge pain it might be to try and leave after the game. I assume you can't make a left out of Holy Cross and traffic will be bumper to bumper.

Actually, if you leave going South, it is the very best place to park. I have no knowledge about going North. When I was at ND, I never went North after a game so I don't know about this. I suspect that if you head South and then head for the East Exit on the interstate, or the West exit on the interstate it would be a whole lot faster.
check Google Maps.

I parked near the white lot last year, I 80 is a b!tch to try and get in, out is not toooo bad. I like to park across from the softball/baseball fields. Going southwest is easy to get in and out; at least I find it to be. The entrace by the golf course gets backed up as well.

If you park in the golf course I believe you have to show your tickets, they do not allow tailgating during the game. So if you are going and planning on scalping tickets, you are probably going to have to park somewhere else. I parked in white field for the USF game and it was great. Shuttle took you right to Hesburgh and as soon as we got off the bus the players walk was right there. We didnt get on the bus after the game because the line was so long, and the walk is not bad either. Getting in and out was very easy almost 0 traffic stops or backups. White field is probably your best bet.

Actually, US31 takes off to the West at US20. Indiana933 continues North to ND. You cross Angela and can turn into Holy Cross, but there is no traffic light there. If you continue North to the traffic light at Saint Mary's Rd, you take a left into Saint Mary's and then after about 100 yards you take a left into the lot.

Yeah, you're right ... US31 turns into US31 BR/Ind 933. Thx for the info. Do you know whether you can "tailgate" in the Holly Cross field?

Not sure they allow tailgaiting there but for extra $5 can park in white field. Shuttle is right there and more people. From the south/north there is a road called Pendle off 933. It is a stop light with a gas station. Turn there (east) to Juniper and turn right. The entrace to white feild is on the right. I have found this way to get out easy after the game than the exit off I80/90. Opens at 6am the time I will be there. Go Irish!!

There is a sign which says no open fires allowed, but a lot of people do tailgate and some have a fire.

My family is coming out for the game this weekend and got a parking pass for the "U" lot from a friend. On the pass it also says Bulla. I have never heard of this lot so I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of where it is/what it's like.

looks like that lot is just to the north of the loftus center/gug, east of the library. no idea on what its like though. It should be pretty close to where the new route for the player's walk starts as they walk from the Gug to the Library and then to the Stadium.

White Field $25. Exit off of the turnpike goes straight into the lot, and you exit the lot right on to the turnpike when you are leaving. Free shuttle or a short walk to the stadium plus a lot of people hanging out and tailgating.

If you turn left instead of going into the white field off the turnpike there is a bob evens on your right. There is a parking lot behind them they used to charge to park at then SB started making you get permits to charge for parking so they stopped charging. It is free to park there and just as long a walk as if you parked in the back of the white field. Getting in is easier because you are turning left off the turnpike and everyone else is going straight/right. Getting out is also a breeze because you are just past the turnpike so there is no traffic. It is real great because if you walk it it takes you right up to the grotto past the church then the library is on your way to the stadium. Makes it real nice if you want to see the pregame stuff around campus. Plus you have bob evens and wendys to grab a snack at after the game before you start your drive.

I generally do not have time to tailgate when going to the games and I don't like the idea of spending $25 or more on parking for 6 home games each year. I almost always park off campus to the east on one of the many lawns open for parking on Bulla Rd. It's maybe a 1.5 mile walk to the stadium and you can park for $10-$15. Never had a problem getting on the turnpike heading east either.

Anyone know what Eddy St. garage is charging nowadays? I am thinking I will park there for the Marshall game. I’m taking two toddlers and I generally don’t care about price for convenience, but I’m not paying $100+ to park on campus.

Or, you know a better spot?

I parked there last year for Navy. I could be wrong but I think it's $40.

My brother got parking pass on campus once and he said never again. Yes it was convenient to get to your vehicle, but he said he waited forever for traffic to move from the lot.

For sure. I’ve had tailgate passes before in the stadium lot. I typically leave the game with 2 minutes left or plan on staying for a couple of hours and going to a restaurant or something to wait it out.

Whatever direction you are traveling after the game is where you should park. Crossing North to South or vice versa SUCKS. Uber isn't easy.

Sitting in traffic after the game certainly sucks. We typically have a Stadium lot pass, but unless you leave early or plan to hang out and tailgate a bit you're going to be stuck in traffic for an hour and a half at least. White Field has always seemed like a quick exit though, and if you park at St. Mary's you may be able to get right on the turnpike? It's been awhile since we've done that last one. If you came in off the Turnpike and you're parked in a campus lot they usually redirect you, you can't leave the same way you came in. It's a real bitch.
