No predictions but it seems for me the games I get to actually sit & watch wind up being nail-biting wins or losses. The games when I get stuck at work and barely get to watch are easy wins. So whatever games we are worried about I'll just schedule myself to work and the Irish will cruise to a blowout win.

I can't really disagree with any of allenm5333's points. I'll just add that Navy is a tricky spot on the schedule sandwiched between @ BYU and Miami. They should also be one of the better G6 teams, so maybe closer than expected there. I also think ND beats UNC by 40-50, so that could be the biggest blowout.

What about Fitzgerald? Go check his record his last 4 years at NW. It was... Not good. He went 14-31 SU and 18-26-1 ATS. He was basically a walking corpse. ND by 28+ IMO.

Obviously we are all ND fans, and expect us to win them all. I'm just saying this could be a very unexpected tough game. He is a very experienced coach that shouldnt be overlooked. Maybe I should have put them in the wtf that was close category. In all reality, I expect zero games to be close with our talent, schedule, and mindset this year.

That's fair. Fitz has been pretty good on the road and as an underdog (over 55% in both roles) and he's over 60% as a road underdog. But those trends really started to erode in his last few years at NW. I just don't think this team/staff is overlooking anyone this year.

It's at home. And while I haven't followed MSU's offseason roster construction all that closely, I'd be surprised if Fitzgerald is going big down the NIL/transfer road, so it'll probably take a year or two to develop the mentality he wants. I expect Sparty to be better under him than they have been. But it'll take more than a few tune-up gaems to get there.

I think we lose one. Probably either BYU or SMU.
Given the events of the last nine months, I think we will vaporize Wisconsin. But Navy could be a tricky low-scoring affair.
We will rise to the occasion against Miami as we have tended to in big games under Freeman, and by that point in the season we should be fine-tuned enough to prevail.
I don't really see any of the others posing a serious challenge.

Biggest blow out? Michigan State 63-0
WTF that was close game? Rice ND 31-17
Damn that was easier than expected? Miami, ND by 17
Potential slip up? SMU will be close at halftime.
Get the 3rd stringers some reps? Every single game will have series by the third stringers in the 4th besides Rice, BYU, Miami, and SMU.

I'll play:

Biggest blow out: Purdue
WTF that was a close game? North Carolina (close game as in Boston College-Notre Dame was "close" last year).
Damn that was easier than expected? BYU
Potential slip up? Miami. I don't see anyone else truly challenging Notre Dame
Get the 3rd stringers some reps: Rice, Stanford, Boston College

Fitz is a good coach who had NW ranked in the top 25 in 7 out of 17 years he was there. So you think because he struggled at times at NW that he won't put it together at a bigger better football school. Got it, I'm sure I speak for us all when I say I'm really glad when I see you post. Your insight may be the best here.

Man you're really going off the deep end with your hurt feelings huh? Why do I have a feeling that whatever city you live in is about to see a spike in the amount homeless people and dogs being beaten?

So you don't think Pat Fitzgerald can win at MSU because of why again?

He was a good coach at Northwestern, that's hard to argue.

But it is also an interesting question as to whether a relatively old-school type who was (moderately) successful at one fairly-unique school - with modest expectations and an enormous reservoir of goodwill towards him - that played in the Big Ten West mostly in the pre-NIL/transfer era can succeed at a bigger (but not elite) program in today's Wild West environment and super-sized Big Ten where the goal, even for Sparty, is basically playoffs or bust.

We'll see!
