Think they'll go with a layperson with the way the other CSC institutions have gone recently.

Every institution is now led by a layperson with the exception of Kings College.

Unless the BOT and BOF want to go in a different direction, there's no reason to expect any meaningful difference with Swarbrick and Jenkins out. The fact those two kept getting their terms extended suggests the people making the actual decisions didn't see any problems. That said, I'm glad both of them are gone, they were poor leaders.

Next to zero chance this happens. The first sentence in the "About" section of the office of the president page on the ND website is "The President is elected by the Board of Trustees from among the members of the Priests Society of the Congregation of Holy Cross, United States Province of Priests and Brothers."

Groody and Dowd are the most likely choices. I get the feeling Dowd is more interested in the ministerial aspects, though, so Groody seems more likely than Dowd. Groody is currently VP and Associate Provost, positions Jenkins held prior to being named President.

I get the feeling president is more like a face position, could be wrong.

Isn't Fr. Groody a major advocate for refugees/migration?

My sister (we average 2 degrees from ND each, she has 4 I have 0) says they've been grooming Father Pete for the role, but that doesn't sound too realistic based on your post IMO.

Father Pete would be the popular choice, so yeah...we can rule that one out.

Fr. Pete is a public face, the ND equivalent of "Catholicism Wow" for those who have seen Dogma. I don't know that the university sees being the cool priest that the kids like is a necessary quality for the President, which is much more of an executive administration role. Fr. Pete is great, but while he's out on the quad with students or messing around on a mix table at a game, Jenkins and the like are at symposiums or glad handing with donors. I don't think that's Fr Pete's forte.

On the whole, that's probably a fair assessment. But from what I've read, I think he'd probably qualify that as not being a political/policy issue so much as a moral one. Groody is also a member of the BOT and BOF.

New board chairman as well.
New AD, new board chairman, and a new President all announced to be happening at the end of this school year. I don't have any insider info nor will I pretend like I do, but do we think it's possible that the donors have stepped in and asked for major changes?

It's absolutely possible. Is it the truth? Don't know.

It's hard for me to fathom that the big donors don't like Marcus Freeman. He's made mistakes, but he's doing and saying all the right things. There is an energy and passion he brings to the program we haven't seen in a while. He supports all the other sports and everything the school stands for.

To be fair this was rumored shortly after BK left because of his "burner" account on Twitter alleging that both Jack and Fr Jenkins would be gone after 2023.

ND’s bylaws say the the President has to come from the CSC
