I don't know how accurate a poll would be as many Palestinians may be worried their responses could get back to Hamas and they may fear retaliation, but the part about Iran is interesting. If ever a group was eligible for amnesty from political persecution, innocent Palestinians would certainly qualify. It does make you question why many would continue to live there, but when you're poor you don't always have an option.
There is a lot to unpack there. And everybody is complicit.
The refugee camps in Gaza, the West Bank and in the neighboring countries are run by the U.N. But they have largely subcontracted that out to the local Arabs of each area.
They are the only refugees in history to be designated refugees indefinitely. They are also the only ones to be designated refugee at birth. They are the only ones to have their own UN refugee agency.
They are not allowed to leave. This is obviously terrible for them but it makes Israel look bad. So evidently, that makes it worth it.
Egypt governed gaza for almost 30 years before deciding that they didnt want to anymore and handed them off to israel.Since then, they want nothing to do with them.
Lebanon won't let them in because of the Palestinian insurgency there from the 1960's to 1982. Lebanon never recovered.
Same with Jordan. They did recover, fortunately.
They aren't coming to Israel under any circumstances. But Gaza is theirs and so is the West Bank(if they would only take it)
Being poor doesn't really matter. They simply can't leave the places they are in. Nobody is willing to take them in.
