I just don't agree. Sorry. I hold ND higher than MICH and other schools. We don't look any different from them. And yes, it IS about perception. Don't be naive.

Floyd hasn't "proved" anything. So what? He can behave when it's on the line and everybody is watching. It's the times when nobody is watching that it counts. And this isn't the first time Floyd has been in trouble. So cut the crap about "he made a mistake"....he's made more than one.

I hate to rant about this, and I love my Irish, but I totally disagree with letting him off the hook. And he was let off the hook. So don't gimmie that garbage about him "paying his dues". He did nothing but not party for a couple months.

We are ND. And although I didn't attend that university, I can't stand watching someone not take full advantage of the opportunity given to him. Call me a critic, but you need fans like me as well....

Just my opinion. And I'm ok with it not being a popular one.

Underage drinking isn't a mistake. It's downright encouraged at ND with how they allow freshman and sophs to throw dorm parties with no consequence. Everyone does it across America. Drinking while driving, on the other hand, is a huge mistake and a CRIME. Apples and oranges... so stfu with the whole 'multiple mistake' mantra. It doesn't hold water here.

Yeah... nothing but go through all of the court procedings and get sentenced. How the heck is that not "paying your dues?" You're, in effect, saying that all Americans who get caught for a DUI and get sentenced are "not paying their dues." That's so beyond ridiculous and should be obvious why that viewpoint is incredibly flawed.

No, we don't need fans like you. Fans/alums like you result in plenty of kids getting punished far beyond what is necessary. Some, like Kyle MacLarney, take their too-harsh punishment and come back. Others, like Will Yaetman, get run out of town by cops busting a "party" where everyone is sleeping and then blowing a .01 (on breathalyzers that have been proven quite faulty and where a .01 is well within the margin of error...) because they would rather go to a University where the school sticks up for them.

No students or athletes think ND's draconian punishments are good. Only out-of-touch alums and "fans" would want the Sons and Daughters of Notre Dame crucified for stepping out of line. I'll never understand how these "fans" can be so illogical, but oh well. It's the same as some Mormons who don't think BYU is strict enough. Go figure.

You need glasses then.

The "fans" who are morally indignant over Floyd's "slap on the wrist" are upset only because they think they can't lord ND's moral superiority over the fans of other schools anymore.

It's petty and pathetic.

I don't see how he has been "let off the hook". Like it has been said, he went through all the court proceedings. The national embarrassment of getting a DUI, 90 day license suspension. He has done community service and he still has not been cleared to play, yet. Even though it seems as if he will start all 12 games, barring another incident. On that note, Kelly has said any incident will assure he will never play another down at ND, so he has no other chance to mess up because if he does he is done.

He has truly gone through alot, if anyone else was in his shoes. They would be pleading for a lighter sentence but since it is someone else they feel he should be punished even more. Makes no sense to me. Even though he attends ND, he is still a person that should be treated fairly.

I was going to respond to IrishPat, but I realized that I dont think he read past the first sentence of my post.

That, and the fact that I wouldn't be saying anything the rest of you didn't say already.

Notre Dame has extemely high standards. Let me try to go off the top of my head here.

2005- Raeshon Powers-Neal suspended for a DUI mid-season, I believe, and he never played another down.

2001- Lorenzo Crawford, Abram Elam ( who now plays in the pros), Donald Dykes, and Justin Smith all kicked out of school becaused they were accused of rape, later to be cleared of all charges.

2006- Kyle Mcarlarney expelled from school for pot possession.

Numerous players, in different sports have been suspended from school because of grades. Darrin Walls, Julius Jones, etc....

2008-Will Yeatman suspended for the season for having alcohol in his system at a house party. He later transfered.

2009- Joseph Fauria suspended for the whole season.

I could possibly keep going but those are the main instances that pop in my head. And yes I had to look up some of the details but all the instances I remember. So Notre Dame knows how to discipline. Floyd got suspended at the end of last year so he had over 6 months to prove he would change his ways and face his punishment. As he has.
