Many of those on this board who are I'm guessing 25+ grew up thru the starter coat/jacket era.

What was your first coat?

Mine was the ND hooded pull-over with the pouch in the front. It was a the heavier winter style coat. Alot of my friends came in with the full zip ups and lighter jackets and I didnt have one yet. Then I rolled into class in like 6th grade with the ND pullover with the pouch. It didnt have gold on the sleeve like the ones you see on ebay- my sleeve had straight yellow and the white below it. First one to have it. Then the craze began.

Kids started buying random teams just to have one because their favorite team/local team was sold out. I remmeber Phoenix Suns, LA Kings, Florida Gators, GB Packers, San Jose Sharks, 49ers, KC Chiefs.

The kid who had the Phoenix Suns coat--his mom washed it and the purple ran into the the white on the sleeve and turned it pink--haha.

Anyway- sounds corny but it was the best coat I ever owned and I will never forget it...For some odd reason I think my mom still wears it if she helps my dad shovel. I may need to investigate that and thief it.

This was the first style--take out the green and make it navy blue, add 'Notre Dame' obviously. Same yellow on the sleeves as i referred to above:

I had a Orlando Magic Penny Hardaway Starter warmup jacket with the tear away pants. I think i wore that thing everyday for the first month I had it. Then i put a hole in the knee and that was the end of the pants..... Brings back memories of grade school. I had to of only been in like 4th grade.

I had the Arizona Wildcats starter jacket. It was mostly white with the big Wildcat face on the back and it said Arizona in big block letters on the front. It was way cool.

I was actually thinking about these jackets a while ago.

I wanted the blue ND winter pullover one with the front pouch so bad when I was younger. One X-mas morning I found a present that I was sure was it...turned out to be a ND winter coat of a different brand in white and way too big for me.

I got that one in the first place because the starter version was so hard to find as a lot of people know. We ended up taking the white one back and I settled on a Florida Panthers one, because they were a new team and it looked cool. It worked out since I played summer hockey with a bunch of kids from Buffalo & Rochester and we adopted the Panthers name and colors.

Also attended the Quebec City Pee-Wee hockey tournament as a youngster and we had royal blue and yellow Buffalo Sabres starter jackets made for us with our name and tournament patch on them. They were amazing.

Was the brand Apex?

Also, sounds like it worked out in the end. Solid hockey coats.

I had a San Francisco 49ers one. I was a HUGE Niners fan back when the organization was still run like a first rate pro football team.

This is the EXACT jacket I had growing up! Love it. Still have it in a closet at my parents house. It's still in great shape. My dad has his old Notre Dame (H.S.) Letterman's jacket. Been thinking about having it dry cleaned and rocking it... I'll snap photos if I do. It's Sweeet.

I am 29 and when I was a kid, you knew a kid was a baller if he had one of these. I started w/ a Chiefs button up Starter, red body gold sleeves-very dope....after that I rocked one of the sweet ND pullover 1/2 zip, big pocket, Leprechaun on the back, awesome coat...I think my last one was a Chicago Bulls one, same style, pullover 1/2 zip, big pocket. I remember getting on the bus w/ my walkmen in the big pocket blasting Easy E, man, I was a true G!?!?!?!

I didnt have a Starter jacket, but I did have a 'Pro Player' jacket. Matter of fact, its still hanging up in my closet, i havent worn it in prolly 15+ years. I've never had the heart to get rid of it. Check out the uber Pro Player 'P' logo on the back pic.

3 apartments, and 2 houses later it still hangs in my closet eventhough I havent worn it since prolly 1994/95:

A humorous side note: i was also clinching this jacket during the infamous 1993 FSU game (along with the newly tattooed Lep on my back from the previous saturday), grasping at anything that might provide some luck during that game. Maybe thats why I never got rid of it, that jacket came thru during the FSU game. I should have worn it the next week against BC, instead I was working for my father that saturday tearing off a roof. i had to hear about BC beating ND over the radio

I loved mine! It was comfortable and kept you real warm. My mom gave mine away to a lady she worked with for her son, they weren't real weathly and plus I out grew it.

The best jacket I've seen so far was by addidas. very classy with material body and leather sleeves. Very warm. It had a nice ND logo on the front but the back had in my opinion a way 'too big' logo. Looked like a classy lettermans jacket from the front but the back made me put it down. The back looked like something an Alabama guy would wear (way too much). If the back was plain it would have been bought. If someone came out with a piece that just said 'IRISH'/ND/shamrock/leprechaun on the left side about 1 1/2 inches high in navy blue without all the street cred crap on it I'd but that baby in a heartbeat.
