The back nine of my course is considerably harder than the front, but not 16 stokes.
I blew it!
If that’s not golf in a nutshell, I don’t know what is. Was it a course that used to be 9 and they added a back 9?

Several courses around here have done that and the back 9 is a completely different course. No attempt at consistency or continuity. Drives me crazy

My son shot his personal best today at 107. Only has a few more tourneys this season.

He’s been struggling with coming over the top which I’m trying to fix.

Must be a AA school in SD? I think they are the only ones that play in the fall

Negative. All boys golf is in the fall in SD. It’s nice cuz they have been playing all summer and get all their tourneys in. In spring we might have snow in May still.

Forgot A is also in the fall but B is in the spring. Played in Pierre this past May with someone that was getting ready for the Class B Boys state tournament in Watertown the next week.

Huh, didn’t know that. Interesting. Spring golf is tough in these parts.

Little humble brag post inbound as I am an incredibly average golfer. Every year, my dad, brother, grandfather, and myself play a scramble in a charity event for the last 15 years. We never do that great, always finish just 2 to 5 under par. Anyway, I had won closest to the pin 2 years in a row going into this tournament. Major fluke because my irons are not my strength. Get to the same hole it's on every year (about a 160 yard par 3) and I stick it to 3 feet 11 inches. Don't think there is anyway the organizers would believe I won it 3 years in a row without cheating. Ultimately, someone stuck it to 10 inches so I didn't have to worry about that lol. Don't think I hit the green at all on the other Par 3s. Guess I just own that hole for whatever reason.

We've reached my favorite time on the golf calendar. Nothing like teeing off at 8 a.m. when its 55-60 degree and finishing when it's in the mid 60s. Just perfect.

Golf is funny. Sometimes, people just have "holes" that they can't seem to go wrong on. The #1 handicap hole at one of the course I play I seem to birdie more often than not while others are taking quads. Strange. Similar to a "go to" club even though nothing else is working. It's a great sport.

University of New Mexico‘s course is supposed to be really nice too. Is Twin Warriors the one at the Tamaya?
not sure since i'm visiting, but both courses are on reservation lands...and both highly rated courses

Is there a generally accepted Mount Rushmore of iconic world golf courses? Presumably The Old Course at St. Andrews, Pebble Beach and Augusta National are the consensus top 3, but what's the 4th? Is there a 4th? Not hardest or prettiest, but iconic. Rasputin can't think of an obvious 4th.

Sawgrass 17. Just one hole, not the whole course.

Pinehurst no 2... great course, not the best in the world, but has just an insane amount of history, and you pay for it.

Given its historical significance Pinehurst was considered but the thing about it is that it really doesn't have any iconic holes. Rasputin has played it 5 times but can't really point to any holes that are memorable. Overall, it's a great golf course but it doesn't evoke instant recall like the big 3.

We just got hit with three inches of snow. It wasn't supposed to arrive until Tuesday so I thought I had two more rounds in me still.

devastation.
having trouble coping.

How's the weather in the Indy or St Louis areas? Any courses open?
I might have to drive down next weekend.

Indy got a couple inches of snow last night and there are off/on chances of light snow/rain almost every day this week, bigger snow storm expected on Friday. Heavy rain on Tuesday. Temps in the mid to upper 30s

Yeah, you'll need to go further south than Indy. Weather here is bad for outdoor golf. I went with some friends to the new Five Iron Golf indoor sim/bar over the weekend. Highly recommend to get your winter season golf fix. It's downtown Indy.

Bummer. My area is supposed to get 8-12 inches tonight/tomorrow.

So this happened to me today.

After the heartbreak and despair passed, I realized I can now throw this in my wife's face. She's been nagging me for having backup clubs.

Raced home from work to watch the Masters...

oops.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting your Masters drink on a week early. The Masters has a fantastic collection of classic videos on Youtube to get you through this week, including full final round coverage of all the iconic Augusta moments.

Rasputin queues up the full final round coverage of the 1986 Masters every year at this time to relive that afternoon. It's cool to rewatch the TV broadcast as it unfolded, with the early coverage completely ignoring Nicklaus. He doesn't even appear on the broadcast until he birdies the 9th. Even then he's a bit of an afterthought until he really starts ramping up on the back 9. By then, everyone else is the afterthought and he's the story.

Besides Jack, there was Norman, Ballesteros, Price, Watson, Langer, Watson, Kite, Stewart and Crenshaw on the leaderboard. All legends. All pretty much at the peak of their games. What a leaderboard. What a tournament.
