Yeah, if ND opted to list him as a frosh. But they won't, they'll list him as a soph like they do with every RS.

    For a team that is "not relevant" there sure are a lot of jack wagons like yourself who constantly and incessantly got your gobs running about them

    For someone who loves ND and isn't some wiseguy troll from another school, you sure have me fooled. Brian Kelly is in a position to show you HIS offense. The way he runs it, and when ND shows their improvements this year, I'd like for people like you to please feel free not to join the rest of us in celebrating the successes, because we were here and knew what was going on all along. :wordyo:

Really? Have you seen the talent Kelly has recruited the last cycles? These are top kids any school would take.

Getting back to EG.....I think we all knew this was going to be the decision. Rees just made it that much easier to make. I think it was smart to make the announcement and I wonder why it didn't happen a little earlier. These guys were getting asked every day what they thought, where they thought they were ranked by Kelly along with a ton of other questions. This takes the pressure off the situation and let's the guys just practice.

Even if you're the starter there is a ton of pressure at ND. If anything, NOT being named the starter makes it easier to practice IMO. I'm sure a giant weight just landed on EG's shoulders when he was named starter last night.

Agreed. The added pressure drives the competition and forces each player give maximum effort. Also, if some are concerned the pressure at practice is too much to focus, how the hell would they think these players would react to playing in the Big House? The pressure helps a coach figure out who is going to elevate their game and who's going to fold.

if you worked your *** off for half your life to be a starting QB at Div1 level you would be chomping at the bit coming out of the tunnel!

Gary Danielson was on Jack Arute's College Football Playbook show on XM91. He's helping to call the ND/Navy game on CBS and said that he spent about a week at ND watching practice. He said that EG reminded him of a young RG3 with a little less speed. High praise! Nothing like raising expectations by comparing him to a Heisman Trophy winner.

I am so jacked up about Golson starting. Finally Kelly's got a QB he recruited, who fits his system and can do everything physically needed to run Kelly's offense. We're getting great talent unlike before Kelly... Recruiting is going as good as ever in recent memory.

I really think we're seeing ND on the upswing and a program thats ready to restore its glory.

Really hope im not wrong and sound like an idiot after the season haha.

This is a perfect example of the difference between ND's 5th years, and the rest of the country's redshirts. Golson has NOT redshirted. No application has been made, yet, for a 5th year. He simply has preserved a year of eligibility. IF he graduates in 4 years, AND gets accepted into a graduate program, THEN the University will ask the NCAA to grant him a 5th year. If he were at just about any other school, the school would already have done so, and the kid would have an extra year, no matter his academic record.

Debatable. Talk to most athletes in any sport... I'm talking big time pros.... and they will tell you that the first time they walk out the tunnel/step on the field they have nerves. Lots of nerves. I remember Junior Seau on ESPN (I think) talking about how nervous he was for his first NFL game. But it only really lasts until that first play... as soon as the action starts, there is no time for nerves. That's also why most athletes have routines is to come into a game relaxed/focused instead of over-thinking. So you're definitely right that it's not much of a "concern" per se. Only time it ever creeps back in is "crunch time" at the end of a game if you've never been there before. Start thinking way too much about consequences/results/decisions instead of just playing.

I did not play in front of 80k fans nor did I play QB for ND. I did play in front 20k every week. Everyone is nervous before a game...but as soon as you crack those pads for the first time the nerves are gone and you are in a dog fight. Play in and play out until the game is over. So I do agree with you that pressure is overrated, but every player is nervous before the game. If you're not then I think something is wrong.

Well, yeah as a matter of fact I did watch those games and that would be the reason I said MOST of the games we lost were due to poor QB play and beating ourselves. Did I say anywhere in my post that we lost every game for those reasons? No, I didn't. In fact, USC and Stanford were the 2 games I knew we would have difficulties regardless of who the QB was. But let's think about this. If we had a QB who could pass and also be a threat with this feet, do you think either of those games would have been closer? If we hadn't fumbled on the goal line against USC (QB error) and managed to punch it in, the game wold have been 14-14 instead of 21-7. So who's to say that with a different QB on the team we couldn't have won. It may not have been pretty, but a win is a win. The Stanford game, Hendrix got some things going in the 2nd half but he was young, not extremely talented but a definite upgrade talent-wise over Rees, and he made some mistakes and it was a case of too little too late. Our D was going to have a tough time stopping Andrew Luck no matter how good we were. That's just how good Luck is. But scUM, USF, and FSU were all games we should have won and would have won if we hadn't beat ourselves. 11-2 is the worst record we should have had in 2011.

And I know Golson will make mistakes. I just believe that his talent and big play abilities will outweigh his mistakes and will be without a doubt a huge upgrade over the QB position last season.
