Sorry but I have to respond to this thread thats been closed.

I will say it for the 80%! By NDOM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the 80% that always say "we will be better NEXT year" just PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE save your breathe. We don't want to hear it anymore. It just plain disgusts me.

Every year after basketball or football season that is all I hear "Next year is our year" blah blah blah..........well guess what folks, we are not getting any better are we? So please say anything else than "we will be better next year" instead say something that will ACTUALLY happen.

...............BUT, in all seriousness "We will be better next year" LOL LOL LOL LOL

Sincerely,
Realistic ND fan

I apologize in advance if the MODs think I'm out of line. I respect that its someones opinion, to which they are 100% entitled, no matter how wrong or failed that opinion is, so I'm not going to say anything personal towards the OP but I will speak to the post.

1. That post sucks.
2. Eventually "next year" WILL be our year.
3. Negativity is for the lazy and the hopeless.

GO IRISH!

Yep. I'm lazy and hopeless. I only have owed my own company for the last 15 years and being that owner who works 50 hours a week on average. How many owners of their own company do you know that work 50 hours a week let alone work at all?

But yeah I'm lazy and hopeless. You nailed it.

Good for you.

Oh yeah, I will throw this in there too, try working 50 hours a week and going to school full time.

2 more years and I will have my degree in Marine Biology.

I'm so lazy and hopeless

Every single owner I've ever met? Whether it was owner of the first company I worked for (niche government contractor), the president of L-3 Communications C2S2 group when I did consulting for them, or the principals at my current engineering firm.... I'd say they all worked at least 50 if not 60 hours a week.

I know that is OT... but I've never met an owner of a serious business that didn't work at least 8-6 + extra time evenings or weekends as needed. Quit the pitty party; hard work comes with trying to blaze your own trail... or really any job that isn't for the government.

I don't really have anything in particular to say. I just want this thread to pop up in my usercp. I don't want to miss any of this.

I didn't post the thread to get into a verbal back and forth with anyone. I posted it just to be able to voice my opinion to what I felt was a negative and useless comment.

Next year may never be THE year...and by THE I mean a "national championship" year.

Unless the landscape of college football changes Notre Dame will likely never win another championship...
It could happen...but it's just not likely with the way things are.

I'm not bagging on the coaches or players either. They are putting together quite the squad...no doubt about that. I will always be a Notre Dame fan.

Next year may never be THE year...but next year could certainly be A BETTER year.

I do hope and pray that somehow...someway...doing it the right way will lead ND to another championship...
But the cards are stacked against the Irish...they're going to give us a hell of a show at least.

I disagree with the idea that Notre Dame is at a disadvantage by having high standards and playing by the rules.

There are plenty of intelligent and athletically gifted young men out there. We just need to get as many of them as possible to Notre Dame at the same time.

Once we do that, we just need to play smart and have a few bounces go our way, like every other team out there.

Last year there were 4 or 5 terrible plays that kept us from having a phenomenal year, not a National Championship type year but it would have been awesome. To be that close with some of the "challenges" we had at certain positions.......I'm really looking forward to this season.

So you're the optimist...Ndom is the pessimist...and I'm the realist

I'd like nothing more than to see this team win it all by doing it right...this team was far more than 4 or 5 plays from being phenomenal though.

Actually, most entrepreneurs work that at a minimum: that's the caveat to owning your own business.

Sorry to point that out negative nancy...

No. To be completely honest, they were literally that close.

vs. USF. Fumble return for touchdown on opening play (lost by 3)
@ Michigan. Phantom Fumble by Rees/Ludicrous Coverage (lost by 4)
vs. USC. Fumble return for touchdown AGAIN? (14 point swing)
vs. FSU. Two picks, and almost three in the redzone. (lost by 4)

Plenty of that can be attributed to the QB. Sorry Tommy/Dayne, but that sh*t isn't gonna fly. A really good football fell off the horse b/c of subpar QB play.

The odds are certainly stacked against ND in football, as evidenced by them not ever winning a BCS game.

Having said that, unless the landscape or ND changes, then it is what it is.

With all due respect, my good friend. Someone once told me that anyone that considers themselves a "realist" is fooling themselves. They are either an optimist or a pessimist. The only difference between the three is that the latter aren't afraid to have an opinion.

I don't think anyone is a "realist". People have either a positive or negative outlook. You can base that opinion on whatever you like. But basing any opinion on the flow of reality is a fallacy. Any opinion is your personal perception of what that reality is. That perception has to be either tilted negative or positive.

Just typin'...

From what I know of BobD he does not initiate arguments. He most likely did not mean this thread to go the way it did. I get it and most likely took it the wrong way.

I'm just tired of people saying I'm not a fan JUST because I have realistic expectations for our team. It's painful to constantly watch Notre Dame athletics underachieve and lose to lower quality teams.

If you saw my man cave and saw all the ticket stubs of Notre Dame athletics I have gone to for the last 27 years or so you would not be saying I'm not a fan. I have been to well over 200 sporting events at Notre Dame in my lifetime. So to say I'm not a fan kinda gets me going a little bit.

Again, I am on a mission on this. I am sick of the term, "realist". NDOM my good buddy, you have a negative perception, and that is totally ok. BobD has a positive perception, and that is ok too.

But both opinions are based on each of your individual perceptions of what you believe reality to be.

Semantics, I know. But I truly think as a board we should start being honest about this with eachother.

2 things:

1) If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

2) No one likes an instigator.

I try my best not to be Debbie downer / negative nancy.

I cannot vouch for others either, but I'm certain me taking my problems here won't provide access to the Irish version of dr. Phil.

Toughen up you wamsie pamsey(ies)!

I didn't mean to call you lazy as in a "lazy blob" sense. What I meant is I feel sometimes people go negative because staying positive is tough.

The realistic view is that it is going to take as long as it takes. Woolybug25 is correct in that one can choose to either have a positive or negative outlook on how things are going. But the return to glory will happen when everything goes right. Next year, 5 years? I don't know. And while I'd like to see it happen much sooner than later, I'm going to focus on the positive as much as my normally glass-half-empty makeup allows.
