He's a pro style QB and any QB Michigan recruits must be worth something. I'd hate to say it but Michigan has been QB U for the last few years.

Cutcliffe payed him a visit on sunday it was said to have went well. When an 18 year old kid hears you coached Peyton and Eli Manning, won the 2003 SEC Coach of the Year, and your just the QBs coach at ND, ofcourse he was impressed.

To me, the first sign of intelligence is who you surround yourself with when afforded the opportunity. There is no doubt Weiss has done that. I think the nation will be surprised by the quality of his first recruiting class!!

I like sharpley, he seems like he has a really good head on his shoulders. He was very happy with the Weis hire, didn't seem to bothered about Ty being fired, like some of our commits were. This kid wants to go to ND because it's ND, doesn't care who the coach is. He's got decent size, arm strength needs to improve.

This is a kid that could really really benefit from being coached by Weis and Cutliffe.

I think if he pulls a top 15 to 20 we should all pray to him.It would be a great turn around from where we were at just a month ago.I don't know is this realistic? :eek:hwhateve

We've only had one class NOT ranked in the top-10 (last year's). We surely will be back on top again next year. Some of these guys claimed they hadn't heard from Willingham's staff for weeks on end. Now the head coach (Weis) is calling them directly and we're getting new interest from across the spectrum. All it really takes to recruit well at Notre Dame is not being lazy. With these guys' preexistent connections, we'll be set next year.

He also made phone calls on Notre Dame's behalf to some of our other recruits. National recruits do talk to each other quite a bit.

You don't think next year's class will be top 20? This class is on Willingham.

The more you look at the class it may not be to bad.I think 4 of the 8 are in the top 25 at their position. If they all stay commited.I just can't see anyone not staying on board after he names his staff.Man I wish it was august. :banghead2

i agree...look at what Bo Bridges stunt double...errr Bill Calahan is doing at Nebraska...they were horrible this year, and it looks like they might have a top 3 class coming in next year...give pope weis 8 or nine wins, and watch out

Well, I don't think anyone's thinking top 5 this year. But next year? Especially if ND has a decent season this year comming up, & w/ that new sports facility they built and all these great recruiters on Weis' staff? I don't think top 5 is out of the question. Top 10 at least. We'll see.

As for this year though, I'd just be happy w/ anything in the top 25. I have to say, it is nice to see a coach in Weis who wants to earn his money and actually gets back to recruits and calls them and whatnot....not that I'm comparing coach Weis to any former ND coaches in particulaer :cough:willingham:cough: just saying in general....lol...

Um, you just contradicted yourself from your previous post. Are you posting just to pad your post count? If so, please quit.

Lemming was quoting that ND could have a top 20 class this year!

For the love of God, we could have a top-10 class this year. Nobody has any idea who guys like Haywood, et al will steal from their old schools or pursuade to visit ND. We have several real bluechips looking at ND with Hord, Harris, Hardesty, etc. If we can put together some linemen and seal the deal on the bluechips we'll be fine.

Plus, I hate to burst anybody's bubble, but those rankings are essentially contrived anyway. Do you really think the #1 QB recruit is that much better then the #2 QB recruit? Or the #5? Or the #10? There must be a million senior QBs in this country looking at various colleges.

I think you're on to something.

Look at the schools we are pulling guys from (Wisconsin, Texas, South Carolina, Ole Miss, etc.) and you know they have relationships with some guys they've been recruiting over the last year.

If they were the link to that kid, and that is all the kid really knows, it could be relatively easy to persuade them to follow them to Notre Dame. When you consider Ianello alone was once called the top recruiter in college football and Haywood isn't too shabby himself, we could really move up quickly.
