To be fair, the ESPN blogger is referencing some one from CBSSports.com...

From the story you link:
"CBSSports.com's Brett McMurphy broke down the preseason AP poll, using it as a measuring stick to see whom the voters were right (or close to being right) about while acknowledging those they whiffed on. McMurphy listed the 48 schools that received a vote in the preseason poll and calculated the difference from where they finished in the final poll".

Just sayin'!

Fair enough, and if this was an isolated event I would agree. But it's not. This is an epidemic with them. Just ticks me off how much they love to hate.

Not sure how we can complain about this after complaining about ND not living up to our own expectations this season. We were considered a top-20ish team coming in, and we didn't finish as one. If we don't want to be "disrespected" then we need to win more games.

I don't understand what we're offended by. It's an interesting stat. I suppose you could be annoyed that we're in the headline, but ND gets clicks.

Well they are kind of are right. I'd say 8-5 after starting the preseason ranked and people talking BCS bowl means they were overrated.

It's not like they're wrong. And besides, they calculated based on (preseason rank) - (where we actually finished), so it's not an opinion, it's just math. I don't really care. We were overrated, and there's nothing we can do about last year's performance.

This is my point. It's about putting us on blast- CONSTANTLY! It's obviously going to take a BCS win for them to slow down, not even shut up about us. Is it September yet?

I'm sorry, I know I'm in the minority, but I just don't see it. ESPN (and every other media outlet) does what sells. If they didn't, they'd fold.

Are you saying that in no way does ESPN have an anti-ND agenda?

I'm saying that we view things in a very specific way. Most of my friends think ESPN has a horrible pro-ND bias because we get "more press than we deserve." ND is polarizing, so the team gets covered. Lots of that coverage has been negative over the past several years...because we've had lots of negativity on the field.

That's my take.

I'm just tired of constantly seeing ESPN take every chance they get to knock us down. Yes- we underachieved. And like I said- if it was just about this one article then I wouldn't care, but it's so much more than this. Obviously I'm in the minority here, so I guess I'll just digress.

I'm with you here my man they didnt get to where many expected or wanted, but the way I do it is in one ear and out the other when Notre Dame is ripped. Its like huh? what did you say-I'm sorry I wasnt listening. It simply comes down to winning games against the better teams then they all shut up and at that point you will have to listen to Notre Dame sold out because they are promoting football just like all the other schools. Notre Dame is no different than any other school-Blah Blah Blah. Notre Dame stands alone and I stand with them-Go Irish. In one ear and out the other.

This is nothing compared to the time Wendi Nix openly mocked Brian Kelly's sideline tirades right in front of him when he was on College Football Live in October.

yes, we were WAYYY overrated due to turnovers. If we only had half the TO’s I say we would have had 10+ wins.
Someone mentioned that a BCS win will reduce the hate; sorry it would have to be a BCS win OVER a SEC team.
When we get to the BCS I will bet all my vbucks that it WILL BE against an SEC team too, no weak match up like scUM got this year that’s for sure.

Was Florida State on that list? I know they beat us and all, but were'nt they at #5 to start the year?

Nope

The numbers showed that preseason No. 8 Texas A&M, at minus-41, was the biggest disappointment of 2011, with
Notre Dame right behind the Aggies at minus-33.
Ohio State (minus-31),
Mississippi State (minus-29) and
Florida (minus-27) rounded out the top five disappointments
Missouri (preseason No. 21, minus-8) and
Auburn (preseason No. 23, minus-4) made up the seven schools that were not ranked in the final poll after being ranked in the preseason.

Yep it's math....math based on opinions.

Preseason polls are based purely on opinions.

I'd like to know what kind of math they are using. If you finish the season unranked, then how do they determine how far you fell?

Take Ohio State; although they were not ranked as highly as ND, in the preseason poll, they did not receive any votes, in the final polls. So how do they determine what kind of number to assign them?

This doesn't bother me. What does is Guner Kiel dropping 32 spots the day after he commits to ND.

I LOLED very hard at Gunner's position dropping that low, when he comitted to LSU, everyone one ESPN couldn't stop talking about how good he was going to be and that LSU hit a jackpot on getting a new QB, Etc, Etc.

Then when Kiel enrolls to Notre Dame, they downgrade him and basically slap him in the face by dropping him down 32 spots lol.

You just gotta love Bias ESPN!

They used 49 if a team finished unranked. I don't know how they came up with it.
