On College Football Final's Top Plays...

- The Golden Tate catch in overtime, where he got flipped, made the list as a "big hit"
- Tate's 67 yard beast touchdown catch, which was one of the best RAC I've ever seen, was not

ESPN is so biased.

How about ESPN give some props to our defense for stepping up at the end of the game! It takes a lot of effort for a defense to stop anyone 7 straight times from inside the 6 yd line!

Three goal line stops! That's unreal!

the goalline stands were extraordinary....but from the 10 to the 10 yard line...our defense still needs some work, I can see some baby steps forward, but were not there yet. I thought Manti was more 'in the play' today, less running around. He seems to get better with each game.

It does need a lot of work!

Some weeks I think it's the young DL but then our DB's aren't playing to well!
Let's just hope their best defense is ahead of them and they play well in two weeks!

i think its start the with the DL...we need better DL play, and need to develop that front 7 cohesion that will lead to some consistancy in stopping the run.

I agree completely! Nice thing is not one is a senior and they should all be back next year. I know that does not help us now but it's to show that we are still kinda young!

This defense has to be due for a big game!

This defense should much, much improved in 2010. The only starter we lose is Kyle McCarthy.

With a year or two (or three or four) of experience, and an entire offseason to work on their game against what will be one of the best offenses in the nation in 2010, this defense is going to take a step up and start getting some stops next year.

With Jimmy Clausen, Golden Tate, Michael Floyd, Kyle Rudolph, AND Armando Allen potentially returning, 2010 could be Notre Dame's best chance at the national championship in the Charlie Weis era.

Can you IMAGINE how good Clausen, Tate, Floyd, Rudolph, and Allen are going to be with ANOTHER year of experience and another offseason of workouts? Can you say UNSTOPPABLE?

So Tate's flip was a "big hit", but the Washington receiver gettin KO'd at the goal line on the last play was not. Dude still had his arms straight out as he was laying on his back. "Coach, did I catch the ball?"

Ridiculous. Smith and McCarthy put the Malachi Crunch on him. "Happy Days" reference anyone?

ESPN seems to be buying Jimmy as a Heisman contender now.

McCarthy is a BIG loss, but we still got lil McCarthy so hopefully he can fill those shoes.

ESPN News was ALL OVER Jimmy after the game. They said forget all those other dudes, Jimmy's the Heisman. All 3 guys were singing his praises. So it's not all bad guys.

What absolutely killed me all day was ESPN drooling over Tate's performance, and casually mentioning his INT in overtime, you know, the one that cost his team the game! All day, their headlines or the bottom lines were saying something to this effect: "Tate leads Michigan to comeback, only to fall in overtime." And then the announcers would praise Tate and show his comeback (conveniently not showing the 2 throws that should have been picked, particularly the one he just threw up for grabs). And when they went to the overtime, all they showed was Mich St's TD, and not Tate's huge INT! Unbelievable. If that had been Jimmy that's all they would have shown.

Tate's comeback was good, I admit, and the kid has 'it', and is perfect for that offense. But he has not played well the last 2 weeks, and yet the media glosses over it...

Maybe the big hit was when Tate jumped up and KO'd the Washington guy. People forget that he was knocked silly for a few...

that could be it...tate got up right away and was like, "YO! I'm the shizznit" ans ran back to the huddle...

Our offense is clutch
I'm stuck on our run defense
Our secondary is over-rated

I watched the UM at MSU game earlier in the day and MSU was all over UM all day. In the fourth quarter it looked like MSU went into prevent on offense and defense and that's when Forcier (sp?) led them down the field twice. So really if you watched it, the kid had two great drives during the game when the Spartans stopped pushing the pass rush. All the highlights from ESPN though all started at MSU 20-6 and how great Tate was and MSU was simply lucky. There was a reason MSU was UP 20-6, but no highlights of that.

Its along the same lines that ND was lucky to win storyline when really they could have put the game away early. Seriously...5 FG's could easily have been at least 3 FG's and 2 TD's. PLUS one of Washington's TD's was the gimme lateral pass that was laying on the ground. ND made mistakes, but they were the better team on the field all day just like MSU was. BUT ESPN highlights Wahington and UM...the guys who lost.

If you believe ESPN, you may think Forcier, Jacory Harris, and Colt McCoy are great QB's...

Forcier (too early to tell..)
Jacory Harris....(I remember when he played for Colorado and went by Kordell Stewart)
Colt McCoy....(I remember when he played for UCLA and went by Cade McNown)

I HONESTLY don't mean to piss in anyone's cheerios here, but four fifths of the starting offensive line will be gone next year. Thats going to hurt.

While Harris had a subpar game against VTech, he played pretty good vs OU. He is no Jimmy, however.

McCarthy Tebowing that kid on the last play wasnt the "big hit" - the only bigger hit I ever saw was Ronnie Lott.....every week from the 80's through the 90's......
