I would have voted Kelly COY, but O'Brien too just as easily. It's not just wins and losses guys.

Think about it: he got 4 BCS-conference wins with his players knowing that, immediately after the game, they would have to dress and shower in a room where an old, Penn State defensive coordinator had butt-sex with a little boy.

Heck, given that they could transfer without restriction, I'm a little surprised 22 people signed up to play.

It is, when your guy has the wins and losses on his side.

I completely agree with you, though. And I'm a little shocked at how closed-minded and petty some people are being. It certainly doesn't reflect the values of the University that they support.

The reason they didn't pick Eifert...is because he wasn't the best TE in the country this year.

Ertz was.

Love Tyler, hes our boy and has had a wonderful career for the Irish, but cut the crap, we all know the Mackey was a career capper for Tyler. He wasn't better than Ertz this year.

Both are extremely talented guys that will be great players at the next level.

No more than Kelly beating Navy, Purdue, Wake Forest, Boston College or Pitt? You can't push Manti for the Heisman because his candidacy was more than just stats then say OBrien wasn't deserving because he didn't win enough this year. Think about the job that you would have had to do there. Biggest scandal at any program, ever. Following Paterno, losing 4 or more key starters, including your first string RB.

I can't fault them for giving it to him, just like I can't fault them for giving the Heisman to Manziel.

Exactly.

Good for O'Brien. I have no problem with him EARNING that award.

No coach in the country dealt with more this season.

Hey, we still get to play for the crystal...so I'm not the least bit worried about this.

Agreed. I still think Tyler only one the Mackey because he was robbed last year. They wanted to reward him this year.

Isn't COY more or less predicated on exceeding expectations? Didn't most pundits have PSU at about 7 wins this year? So they exceeded expectations (against a weak schedule) by 1 game and that's COY worthy? I'm sorry, I'm not saying that Kelly should necessarily win it (actually, I am), but I think this is more about throwing PSU a bone after the debatable deserved hammer that the NCAA dropped on them. This is a make-up award for that program.

The Home Depot COY is the only one of these Coaching awards that is remembered. Nobody is going to remember the "ESPN All American Team" in three years. It's a very very small thing to be upset about.

Notre Dame placed four players on the Associated Press' All-America teams Tuesday.

Linebacker Manti Te'o was the only Irish player to be named to the AP first team. Tight end Tyler Eifert, a Bishop Dwenger grad, and defensive end Stephon Tuitt were named to the second team, and center Braxston Cave was a third-team selection.

The good thing is, we're seeing more and more guys on this list!

Tuitt is gonna be a monster next year. Unblockable.

Tuit making All American is huge. Fact Notre Dame has never won a national championship without an All American on the D-Line. If history shows us anything it means Notre Dame now has a shot.

If Nix doesn't come back he will be quite blockable. You can always take one DL out of the equation.

With or without (not to diminish Nix) Tuitt will be dominant next year. So young and talented already...and he's still learning.

He doesn't even realize how good he really is just yet....
