It's not that you are alienating the ps4 market, the game developer would just be selling to the more profitable market. While also beginning to set precedent for the future. Don't get me wrong I don't think this will have an effect early on. And it's clear that Sony is riding a wave of good karma. But I do think that this change is inevitable in this generation of consols.

And to that bolded part, I really don't understand that mentality. With the hardware Microsoft is putting in place how could they keep the model the same as it used to be? What incentive is there for anyone to buy the games anymore? Just find a friend or neighbor who owns the game, borrow it for 15 minutes then have it forever. Microsoft chose to do right by the publishers they work with, and make sure they continue to make a profit on the sales of their games.

Edit: I forgot to address the no disks comment. First I think you misunderstood what I was saying, I don't mean there are not going to be disks. There will be disks, they will just be useless to the first consumer after it is in their machine for the first time. Secondly no I didn't forget about retailers, Microsofts model is better for retailers, because they will be selling more first had copies of Xbox games.

Disagree. I have never seen a situation where a game developer was able to reasonably suggest that the presence of used games on the market seriously cut into their sales. 80%-90% of the time major developers rely on the first month on the market, hype, and reviews to get their sales. They are not interested or focused on the gamer who buys 3-4 games a year and only buys them 3-4 months down the line after the price has dropped, which is really when you start to see used games on the shelves.

Secondly, most people who go into a store and purchase a used game do not go into that store with the purpose of buying that game. They do it because they happen to see it, they've heard good things, and it's much cheaper. Publishers like to think that every used game sold means that they lost a sale, when in fact it's the opposite. People who buy used games would have never bought them in the first place had the game not been sitting on a shelf for $15 instead of $45.

Not only that but I think you could make the argument that used games sales help a series get on it's feet. I would've never bought The Witcher 2 if not for seeing it for around $20 and picking it up on a whim (that DEFINITELY wouldn't have happened if it was still retail price of $45-$50 dollars). But because I bought it, and loved it, I know that CD Project Red is an awesome developer, and I will be picking up The Witcher 3 on day one.

tl;dr I think the concept of major publishers like EA and Activision (who are the only publishers really pushing this) losing massive sales to used-games is a marketplace fiction.

One thing I'm disappointed in is Sony crossing the free online gaming line finally, guess it was inevitable though..

100 dollars cheaper. Hard copy's of games. Do not have to be connected at all times. Is like anyone buying the Xbox one...like, anyone?

I'll be fairly suprised if Microsoft doesn't make an adjustment here or there... right now the choice is flat obvious...

when is the PS4 set to launch?? One thing that could help XBox is a much eariler release date...

If they can develop a madden for the next gens ncaa is more then doable.. I guess the popularity of ncaa is the concern..

But I absoloutly NEED the nhl franchise to make the leap next year.

Again everyone is ignoring the fact that business model has changed. Not needing you hard copy of a game after the first use is a GIANT CHANGE to the game sales market. Up until this point I agree used games didn't command that large of a portion of the market. But you said it yourself game developers rely mostly on the first few weeks of a games release to make their profit. If me and my 15 friends all want madden why wouldn't we all chip in and buy 1 copy of the game? Pass it around download it and have no need for the disk? The cut into sales would be incredible.

Lol but even if that is the case it still means what Xbox is doing is stupid. Hell I can sit here and think of ways to make that better for consumers than their current plan.

Heres one someone else has made:

No offense man but your argument seems to be "Microsoft has come up with a system no one was asking for that has made DRM that everyone was firmly against necessary, therefore their DRM is ok with me."

That doesn't hold water to me. Microsoft could've come up with MUCH more consumer-friendly policies and still had their disk installations.

No my argument is that I like, or anticipate likening the new features. I think it would be cool to watch a movie while my game is loading, or play campaign on CoD while I am waiting for a madden online match to get set up. The ability to do all of this simultaneously without switching disks or wasting time seems convenient. Of course all of these features come at a cost, but none of the drawbacks effect me. I don't buy or sell used games and I am always online while playing.

And honestly we don't know all the details yet to judge how consumer friendly the policies are. Part of me thinks that was done strategically, they get the basic information out there and then based on the reaction (which has been the worst reaction to anything in recent memory) they will adjust the cost and other aspects. For instance we don't know what the price will be to play a used game on a new system. They could come out and say its 5$. I'm not saying everything Microsoft has decided to do is great, clearly it's not. I just want everyone to keep a little perspective.

So what games, based on what you have seen so far are "probable" purchases. For me:

Destiny
AC4
FFXV - my favorite so far.
KH3
The Division
Infamous: Second Son
Killzone
Watch Dogs
Mirrors Edge 2
MGS5

The only thing giving me a headache is Titanfall, but that is only for the XBoxOne, that game does look great.

Drive Club looks amazing also. The first person in the car views are incredible.
