Does anyone use a double edge safety razor to shave? I have been doing a lot of research and I think I'm going to give it a try. I am trying to decide between a Merkur 34c and a Edwin Jagger DE89. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.

I use one, and sing it's praises. I forget the brand, but it's made in Germany.

Warning: TSA will confiscate the blade if they notice it in their scan.

I use a straight razor, but have looked at safety razors for situations when I am a bit more rushed.

The safety razor that I would buy is the Rockwell Razors 6S. It is a bit pricier but I like the weight, and it is adjustable for different cutting needs. Wondered if the idea of being able to adjust the blades was a gimmick, but it comes very highly recommended from the guy that runs the store (yeah, I know he sells them, but he has been pretty good about steering away from over-spending).

Attaching the link for the 6S in case you want to read it

FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS ARE ON THE AIR!

Sorry to derail.

Your topic awakened dimmed brain cells from another millennia when as a wee lad I spent Friday nights curled up next to my dad watching the fights first from St Nicholas Area and later from Madison Square Garden. Gillette Cavalcade of Sports sponsored the fights. That tune, and the lyrics, was probably one of the first I learned.

Thanks.

get a straight like a real man.

But seriously, yes, get one, give yourself time to learn it, and it will reward you......then get a straight razor for fun.

*Edit: its been some....7-8 years since I've used one, but I don't remember particularly liking the Merkur blades that came with my first DE. PM me your address and I'll mail you a few of the ones I use if you're interested.

These days....not sure...I think I traded for a nice one way back....probably somewhere in the $100 value range, but I'm sure there are much less expensive options. I also got a kangaroo leather mini strop that is as smooth as butter.

I've shaved once in like four years... never have a beard either, use clippers on everything once or twice a week... I'm happier.

Pretty sure there is already a thread for this. I remember Wooly talking about his straight razor. Someone also mentioned the shave club.

I use the Merkur 34c for head and face. Love it, but considering a model with a longer handle for balance purposes.
