Question: how do I defend my team when someone says ND will always suck? What do I tell them when their basis is because of recruiting?

Being a Reds fan living around Cubs fans... I just start chanting "1990". "Eleven" is what I do when I get slammed by a CFB fan.

you tell them that the fact that they are still in your face talking smack, that ND is still relevent. Teams still celebrate like they won the national title when they beat ND in a regular season game, even if ND has a losing record. No one talks smack about northern illinois's, or east tennesse state's of the world.

I totally agree with saying "11" as a defense. That is a good statement. The past is the past and that is what they will tell you. Since you are from FL it may be difficult for you to raise an argument that way though because they are so good now.

If there basis is recruiting you simply tell them we got let down badly by choosing a poor recruiter to follow the slouch of the year Bob Davies. Charlie has recruited very solidly and this years seniors are his first "true recruits". If we do poorly in '09, which I think is impossible for this team, then we fire Charlie and you tell them we had the wrong guy.

What you tell them for now is that ND will be in the National Championship game in '09 and if Urban's' boys can get there we will knock the snot out of them. Stand tall and represent. That is what being a fan is all about. That is what I love about the off season, everyone is undefeated and every fan can proclaim his/her team as the next coming of the greatest team ever.

Well, this is a FSU area (Tallahassee) so I don't deal with too many Gator fans. Noles' fans are easy to scoff, as they claim to be in the NC contention every year, despite the fact that they have only two. The big challenge are the Alabama fans.

BTW, Gene the Warchant.com guy said that if Charlie doesn't produce soon, he sees Urban as our next coach. Also, Urban is a jerk (jealous noles fan), because he was talking shit about Mark Richt's family (apparently he adopts handicapped children or something).

Dude unless they are a Florida, SC, Texas or Ou fan tell them to shut the F Up because no programs in the country have been LEGIT every year but them, what makes us different from Tenn, UGA, Mich, MSU, UCLA, Pitt, BC, Auburn, BYU and other "close but not quite" programs over the last ten years....?

This is something you can't win. Because when Notre Dame starts winning agian every year. Then they will just say it is because we aren't in a conference or we play a weak schedule.

Some of the greatest players of all time have suited up in Blue and Gold.

We own 11 national championships........ we have seven Heisman trophies.

Possibly the greatest fight song ever.

One of the most famous coaches ever in college football.


A gorgeous stadium.

First off in my opinion don't use history to defend the Irish because it is what it is and it's History. It's been 20 years since our last N.C. so why is that a relative argument today? Defend our Irish by saying that your right Notre Dame has been down for a while but we'll be back and Notre Dame will be back on top where we belong.

Then he is going to say that is what Notre Dame fans have been saying for years and you say and we will continue to say it til we get back to the elite status that we should be.

no team has won more national championships than Notre Dame. Michigan has won 2 national titles. USC and Ohio State are tied with ND for the most Heisman trophy winners.

I think Michigan has 7 but im not 100% sure. Definately more than 2 though.
Just some food for thought though, if you ever get into a national championship debate with a Michigan fan. They absoloutely love to bring up that their last one was in 97' and ours was 20 years ago in 88'. Other than the championship in 97' the last one they won was in 1948. So from 1949(we won it that year) until today they only have the 97'championship. ONE CHAMPIONSHIP IN OVER 60 YEARS. So when a Michigan fan talks junk about our 20 year drought, tell them to come back in about 40 years.
Did I mention that I hate Michigan above all else!

Oh yeah and in that same period of time 48'-09' we have 5 championships to their 1.

So much for an elite powerhouse huh?

Tim Tebow has been anointed the second coming! Have you not heard? His words are already enshrined in plaques outside the stadium in Gainesville.........
