Just saw this on the bottom line of espnews. I'm suprised. Did he graduate yet? It can't be for the $. Isn't he already a millionare from a lawsuit he won. Aldridge better be ready.

It's a smart move on his part. I love the guy, he has been a tremendous back for ND. But I think this may actually be the best for everybody. Next year we will have our choices of Travis Thomas, James Aldridge, and Armando Allen. That is a great backfield. Thomas has seemed really impressive on a few runs this year, and he has never had the ability to be the No.1 back, I'd like to see what he can do with it. And if he isn't up to the task, we've got two guys who will be.

And for DWalk, his stock wasn't going to rise much next year. He will be a late pick, maybe the 3rd or 4th round, and probably be an NFL backup somewhere. he is a great back-up. Not explosive but extremely reliable, doesn't fumble much, great blocker and receiver. next year, he would have to be handling a whole new offense.

Also, most of his friends are in this year's senior class. He has basically been one of them the last few years. he probably will just feel like leaving with most of these guys. I'm surprised he isn't finishing his degree, but that's up to him.

I think it is a good move for Darius. It is clear that Aldridge would get more playing time next year which would mean less carries for darius. I would like to say one thing to Darius.

"Thank you for the consistent phenomenal commitment to the Irish over the last three years. I wish you all the luck and success in the future"

I guess I don't see how this is OBVIOUS, but that's neither here nor there. Either he is the focal point of an otherwise very young offense and gets tons of carries and risks injury (without much chance to raise his stock; everyone pretty much knows what DW brings), or the kiddies get more time and he gets less carries and his stock drops. Either way it's a reasonable decision, though I imagine he'll want that degree someday.

Question: who gets taken earlier: Walker or T. Smith? And who has a longer/more productive career?

This blows. I expected him to average 150 yard per game and I thought he was going to be the one to carry the team next year. I guess in the long run it will be for the better because Aldridge will have more playing time and will develop into a better player for 2008 and 2009.

Someone will pick him up and I could see him be a good 3rd down back in the right offense. He doesn't have the greatest speed but he can block and catch passes. He will get those needed 3rd downs for someone. It's been great D. Walker, I hope you miss me as much as I will miss you.

Hey fellas whats up. Long time reader first time post.
I like walker and all but I'm ready for all the young blood we have. I'm looking forward to seeing all this young talent on display next year. Walkers good not great and I believe aldrige or allen will fill in nicely. I was actually a huge walker fan until that USC game in 05 where on that final drive to take the lead I seen him looking at the sidelines and I sceamed at the tv dont run out of bounds. But sure enough he did stoping the clock when we still had 3 timeouts left and no need to run out of bounds. Sometimes he's afraid of contact and still to this day if he would have stayed in bounds and let the clock keep ticking we win that game. So bring on the big bruser in aldrige.

I'm pretty sure he's graduating. He took courses during the summers to get ahead.

Does it really matter to you? I mean, I am excited for the guy if he can make it in the NFL. He can always come back and get the degree when football is over.

It matters to ND people. But as has been said, he's getting his degree anyway.

ND graduates something like 95% of it's players. It is by far the best major program in CFB to do so. You are right, he could come back later. But DW just seemed like the kind of guy that would want a degree from ND, especially if he's not a huge NFL prospect. Remember, just because the guy THINKS he can make it in the NFL, doesn't mean he will.

Hell, Eric Crouch never played a down.

Good luck to him... With that said I think it is a mistake for him. I dont think he will last long in the league. NFL defenses are faster and hit harder he already goes down too easy I think after three years we will not hear about him anymore as afar as football goes anyways. BUT thanks for the years and good luck all the same.

Well, with Darius leaving, that means we can all stop posting "BENCH WALKER" and move on to more pressing matters.

*ahem*

BENCH ALDRIDGE.

BTW, he said some really cool things at his presser (link), and it is worth reading.

He does indicate that worries about injury via overuse may have played a role:

Q. You've touched the ball over 800 times during the last three seasons, any concern about putting more mileage on top of that? I know scouts think about that, if a guy has fresh legs coming out of college or whether he's taken too much of a beating. Were you worried what another season of catches or touches would do?

Darius Walker: You know, injuries and things always play a factor in decisions like this. Worrying about what could possibly happen next year, the uncertainties of possibly getting injured in the next season, things like that.

And it also seems like he will be hiring an agent:

Q. On the business end of things, do you already have representation? Have you already signed off on that? Where are you in that process?

Darius Walker: No. That's definitely the next step now, to try to find an agent and to try to get through all the legalities that come along with making yourself eligible for the NFL Draft.

So that's that. Thanks for everything, Darius, we wish you all the best.

Before we need to even think of our RB's we need to sure up our Oline... it is going to be very experienced but has all the potential in the world
