Nah, that ain't it boss. No need to feel sorry, that should be reserved for the people who lap up these kind of videos as some sort of proof that all liberals have the same views.

I made the comment on Islamophobia because the shock-jock tried a "gotcha" type moment by using a Islamic figure to "get" the Liberals. Could of used any number of historical figures to "get" the Liberals in the video.

That was his point.

I get what the overall point is, trust me the "liberals are petulant children who don't know what they're fighting against" is a tired trope.

I'm just saying, you can make that point without Islamophobia.

Are you equally tired of the, ‘liberals dismiss anything they don’t like as hatred’ trope,... or are you just being a petulant child?? Asking for clarity,...

Yeah, I can send you a PM to my twitter feed and you can have a look through (some good current Toronto issues like complaining about rent control).

Conversely, these "gotcha" videos are all pretty lame ex. Kaitlyn Bennet, John Oliver/ John Stewart used to do them all the time so I stopped watching. Anyone with half a brain knows they don't represent that sides view.

Just trying to add a different opinion to break up the right wing circle jerk. Wouldnt cancelling the opposing sides view, be in itself cancel culture.....

This is exactly what liberals do all the time. Provide facts that are counter to their opinion and they immediately dismiss it. Why do they deny?

Example.....Listening to Clay Travis this morning talk about COVID and getting kids back in school. Some guy calls and argues for staying home and mentions numbers from Europe to bolster his claim. Travis responds with how the U.S. per capita is better than all European countries except for Germany. The caller then counters by stating Europe isn't the U.S. and shouldn't be used as a comparison. If was okay for the caller to use Europe as a comparison, but not Clay Travis? lol

This guy in the video may or may not be a shock jock. Never heard of hm before, but his point was people are responding without thinking or knowing the facts. The protestors are wanting to erase white history, so using a black for his question seems pretty on target to me.

These videos just provide anecdotal evidence and obviously done in a way to further someones bias. This is just like the white power video of the Trump supporter in Florida, rational people assume that isnt completely representative. Should I believe that all Trump supporters are white nationalists because of that video?

I guess he was looking at the death rates eh? If the position is that deaths per captia is the driving force behind deciding on schools, then Clay Travis is right.

I'm certainly not an expert on analyzing an interview but it certainly seemed that he spoke incredibly fast and seemed to surprise them (probably got some super high Liberals lol).

Muhammad was a middle eastern guy, so not necessarily a black guy. As another white person myself, I really don't think my history is contained in some pieces put up around in parks. I think the battle on changing "history" would be in schools and what's being taught to kids.

Just my opinion, not meant to be fact based or to have a "winner".

Ah yes the great and plentiful statues of the Prophet Muhammad, lol the guy could have picked literally any other Islamic figure to get his lil'Islamaphobia in there.

If you took from this video that ALL people think the same, then you’re analyzing this video for way more than what it is. It was a simple point and you don’t know that all these people were Left or Right. So if stating a fact about the prophet Mohammed owning slaves is Islamaphobia, what kind of racist trope is stating the Father of our Country George Washington owned slaves? Both are facts...why is one racist and one not? It would be me saying that your comments are anti-Semitic b/c the interviewer just happened to be Jewish. Just b/c your analysis is deeper than the sheep who responded on this video, doesn’t mean you have to overthink it.

I have a hard time believing that anyone on the Right would be advocating for the removal of all statues of people that owned slaves. Maybe I'm naive and there are people on the Right that do.

It's Islamophobic because it's being brought into the discussion solely to kick up dust and engage the people that want nothing more than to slam muslims. All reasonable people know that there is no statues of Muhammad. Bringing up George Washington is relevant because he's from the same time period as some of the people who's statues are coming down. Not sure how this wasn't clear, but there it is.

Nah, my comments would not be anti-semetic because I didn't bring race/religion/ethnicity into it. My analysis is deeper because this kind of videos do nothing but divide people, as I've said a million times I am against the stupid white nationalist videos people do on the Left to showcase conservatives as racists.

Same time period as Christopher Columbus and Frederick Douglas (as you are well aware those are just two examples of people whose statues have come down)?. How do you define time periods....before or after you were born?

I mean, those time periods are a lot closer than Muhammad.

My time periods are admittedly pretty loose. Thank you for responding to the rest of my post.

Kick up dust and engage people was exactly what he was trying to do. He's trying to get them to think a little more before jumping on the latest bandwagon. Nothing wrong with that.

As far as relevant, people are going back over 240+ years to cry outrage. No reason we can't go back to Muhammad to point out the hypocrisy. Why set parameters on what time periods can and can't be used? Afterall, it all has a trickle down effect.

If he had just focused on the contrasting of someone like George Washington vs Robert E Lee I think it would have been a more salient point.

Didn't set any parameters on outrage, you're allowed to be mad at whatever you wish :)

In terms of Islam's role in this, you're allowed to be critical of Islam or any religion but when the focus of the video is to show liberals are vapid and stupid you don't need to throw Islam in it.

If the outrage is genuinely about slavery, then why would any on the left be all for taking down statues of Washington and Jefferson, but not Muhammed or any other slave owners?

Please highlight any statues of Muhammad located in the US.

Some articles below that will help any fear that Muhammad statues are lingering or that the big bad Left is in favor of them. You'll see below that two Republican SCOTUS justices wanted to keep the piece of art with Muhammad on it.

Toronto, stop with the intentional obtuseness and deflection, please. You aren't naïve and you aren't unintelligent. Please don't insult me by insinuating with your replies that you believe I am. We all know the point of the video was to show how little the faux outrage actually has to do with the stated cause: slavery. It's an attack on anything and everything traditional and not progressive and radical, with slavery just being the latest dog whistle. If it was about slavery, they'd be just as outraged by all slavers.

Trying to turn the conversation to Islamophobia or anything else in order to avoid an honest discussion of that or to admit it is weak and an obvious dodge to avoid admitting the hypocrisy and intellectual dishonesty of the Left. If you want to be respected and taken seriously here, don't insult our intelligence with this sort of transparent, shallow, college freshman level bs. Feel free to hold whatever political opinions you like, but have the character and intellectual integrity to at least stand by them and own them instead of deflecting when they get exposed.

Bishop, as someone on the Left, I can promise you there is a TON of outrage over regressive religious practices. Especially for Islam.

I pointed out the Islamophobia because it detracts the guy's opinion. Many posters here can make a much more sound argument centered around hypocrisy of some on the Left. Which is why I said if he stuck to the George Washington angle it would be received a lot better. Honestly, the first bit of the video is fine until the weirdness that comes with the Muhammad stuff.

I understand there a sizable republican base here. I know I'm part of a small group and not part of the majority, which is why I tend to stray away from the name calling stuff because a mini tirade on my part will certainly lead to a swift perma ban. I try to give you/Irish#1 respect when I respond to you as you both have been civil with my thoughts. The snarkiness in my posts are intended for those that try to gaslight me into looking like some deranged loon.

I stand by all my opinions posted and will accept questioning of them, ad hominen attacks are distasteful.

You're missing this completely. Using George Washington wouldn't make the point. He's already being targeted as a terrible human being. All of the targets are white. The point of using Muhammed is to point out that there are/were people of color that also have a checkered history, but aren't being put under the microscope. Washington and Muhammed both owned slaves. Why shouldn't there be condemnation of Muhammed and to have him wiped from history if the intent is to do it to Washington?

With all due respect, do you really think that taking down (whether it's right or wrong) would lead to Washington being wiped from history? I don't think I've seen a George Washington statue up here and I was taught about him. Again, I'm not calling for Washington to be taken down everywhere. If the Left starts advocating for burning history books and changing education policies to remove teaching of Washington or anyone of his ilk then I I that constitutes a big problem.

All I'm going to saying about being "wiped from history" in terms of Muhammed is that on the farther points on the Left you'll see a lot of people that want to do away with religion entirely. So just because you don't see the Jake Tapper's or Anderson Cooper's of the world calling for it, doesnt mean it doesn't doesn't exist.

The point was to show historical figures who have been revered as great leaders still aren’t without flaws. If the bar for having such reverence is perfection or sinlessness than no on should be deemed such a figure...regardless of race.

In a sense yes. Teaching history where you spend time in a classroom is way more personal than walking by a statue. I can see those that want to remove all the statues wanting history books to be rewritten depicting how Washington, Jefferson, etc. were bad humans because he owned slaves.

These people weren't perfect, but protesters fail to remember that they get to protest due to the actions of them a long time ago.

Fair points, I highly doubt the fringes of the far Left will be able to co-opt national education policy to write them out. Something like "Historical leader X was great because of Y, and also had slaves which was the norm for the time but we know now that is wrong" I don't anyone in their right mind would take offense to that.

I’ve worked in education for years now,... I encounter college freshman who have no real idea who Washington or Jefferson were, ‘slave owner’ is probably the best they can come up with,...

I don't know if that can be done at the local level or not, but I bet we eventually see an article where some advocate for rewriting the history taught in school.
