You realize there were multiple attempts to shore up child marriage laws across multiple states in the past year, and the reason they failed were because Republicans? We all agree pedophilia is wrong, don't try to politicize something that doesn't need to be.
Two separate issues. I agree that the marriage laws should be upped to age 18. But a person wanting to marry someone who's 16 or 17 doesn't seem to meet the definition of pedophilia. That involves a sexual attraction to prepubescent children.
And not passing those laws allows those who are sexually attracted to someone under the age of 18 to marry. They're not equal correct, but the laws would go a long way in protecting children from pedophiles. Pedophiles are mentally unwell and in my opinion evil people regardless of political affiliation. I'm just tired of seeing stuff like this being blamed only on one group of people when it couldn't be further from the truth.

Agree, I doubt that pedophiles lean more one way than the other. However, marrying under 18 and trying to normalize Pedophilia are not the same. I have nothing to base it upon, but marrying someone 15-17, strikes me as being counter to what a pedophile would want. After all, someone 15-17 has went through puberty and is (physically 90%?) and adult at that point.
I wasn't saying that all pedophiles are liberals or all liberals are pedophiles. I'm sure most liberals aren't and pedophiles are to be found on both sides of the aisle. My assertion was that anytime you find someone whose research says pedophilia is not bad, someone who wants it decriminalized, or is trying to normalize it, you can safely give 99-1 odds they're on the left side of the political spectrum.

It's been my experience. I've never heard a conservative push for legalizing pedophilia or citing/conducting studies saying it's fine, nor ever seen or heard of one trying to normalize it. Every time I've ever seen or heard of such, it was a liberal, in a liberal publication, or otherwise associated with leftist groups or persons.

I have what I've experienced and seen in my life. You do realize that not everything is backed up by an in-depth study, stats, and so on, right? Most of what we know comes simply from what we've experienced. I've never seen or heard of a conservative tying to normalize or decriminalize pedophilia. I've seen and heard lots of liberals do so. That's my experience. If yours is different, good for you, but that's been mine.
My experience is opposite most people that I've ever seen have been religious and conservative and there's actual data to back it up. Look at southern Baptists in Texas, the Catholic Church worldwide. I can provide sources as well.

OK, thanks. I'm not religious, so don't really have any experience with ever encountering religious people defending or excusing it. Not what I'd expect, but I'll take your word for it.
I've read those posts and generally agree with them. They're just making a distinction between attraction to a young child and a teenager. Not that either is OK, but there's a huge difference in how not OK when you're talking about a 7-year-old vs. a 17-year-old.
