Dayne sucks huh? And you are arriving at that conclusion from what exactly? We shall see, I will gladly apologize for being wrong if I am. Although your point on SC is good. I do think that may be more of an issue ultimately. Barkley IMO is the best QB in the country. Dayne in no way has been given enough time to determine that he sucks. Incidentally I remember saying a similar thing about N Montana and being threatened with a permanent ban. Guess rules are made to be broken round these parts.

What has Dayne ever done, outside of high school, to make you tihnk he is good?

I should not have said he sucked, I apologize. That was disrespectful, and rude.

Dayne would protect the ball better because he would not take any chances downfield. Our offense would not score points. Have you seen the way he acts after turnovers? He breaks down. He is not confident enough. If I can see it from NJ, the players can see it in the huddle. Our future QB is Everet Golson, but he can't be put into the game yet, let alone start. Step back, and give Tommy a chance. I feel like you are looks for reasons to attack him.

Yeah...Robert Woods is going to target Gary Gray all day. I am more worried about our DB's making plays on the ball then anything else.

He did go through progressions better but he also had all day to throw so I have to temper my praise because of that.

We are on the same page with the rest of how we saw him play. Listen I actually really like Rees. I am simply giving my honest opinion on some things that I see. I am a die hard fan and am just stating my opinion. I am not sure if there is any better option as I stated. I do know that MF has to be able to go up and grab balls to get where we need to go this year. I think it perfectly fair for me to point that out. Clearly I am always happy when we win. I want to beat USC and Stanford, I want to run the table, as I am sure you do to.

Let's try and remember we are both home on a Saturday night on the internet writing on a message board because we love ND football. I hope that BK can coach up Tommy on those throws because then our offense will be sick.

I am not convinced that Dayne is great at all. I simply think that with his tremendous athletic tools that he possess I am not convinced he was given a fair shake. Look I just want to not leave points on the board. Ultimately I have to just trust BK on this, I am just could not believe how bad some of those throws were tonight. Against a much better team they could have cost us IMO. Anyways I am hitting the hay. Great win and most importantly our defense is legit and hard hitting something we never had under CW.

And I will say that you are entitled to your opinion though I disagree and we are probably being a little rough on you due to the negativity about Rees that we have had to listen to from some posters (Jonesman and Kuehna (sp?) come to mind).

I disagree, on three of your points.
A. I thought BK called a great and varied game and committed to the run.
B. He threw two easy picks that he was lucky on, not seeing that is YOU problem.
C. Purdue has a defense looks like a good high school team. Absolutely terrible not being able to evaluate that again is a YOU problem.
D. Play calling is not one word again a YOU problem. LOL

A. He did, outside of the Red Zone.

B. They obviously weren't "easy picks", if he ended the game with 0 INTs.

C. So? Rees led the team to 38 points, while completing 60% of his passes, for 254 yards, 3TDs and no INTs. He did what he had to do, and put away a bad defense. No one ever claimed that he had a great game against the Steel Curtain. We all know that he needs to get better, to have a similar game against a good defense. But he might not have to have a great game, the way the defense is playing.

I just got finished watching this awesome game on DVR and I have to come on here and read this crap again???

DCirishfan, what does Tommy have to do to please you? I'll give you the fades in the endzone but that is it.

24/40 254yds and 3 TDs............... (edited from '50' to 40 by mods)

The grass is not greener when Crist is playing on it my friend. He was notorious for over and under throwing wide open passes.

Just because you're entitled to your opinion doesn't mean we can't refute it and tell you we're sick of your (and the rest of the Tommy haters) ridiculous expectations.

The kid is winning and improving every week.. get on board.

Ryan Leaf had tools and passed the eyeball test too. How'd that work out for him? Just sayin'

I can tell you unequivocally that Matt Barkley is NOT the best QB in the nation, and really, he's not even close. He's not even the best QB in his conference! Have you ever seen Andrew Luck play? 10 x's better. Robert Griffin III - much better. Landry from OK - better. You can even make an argument that the AZ QB that he faced today (Foles) is better.

The thing w/ Barkley is that he is a turnover machine. You don't like Tommy Rees and his turnovers? Try being a USC fan and watching Barkley get away with INTs for years without a peep from his coaches. He's putting up great numbers this year b/c of his competition - they've played no one except ASU, and he threw 2 back-breaking picks and added a red-zone fumble to boot. Barkley has game, no doubt, but if you think he's the best QB in the country, you haven't been watching enough football. There are plenty of QBs better than he is. They won't get drafted as highly, but they are better college QBs...

Leaf had a great college career. He took a team that was very hard to win with Washington State University in Pullman Washington. He almost willed them to win in the Rose Bowl against Michigan. He may have turned mental in the NFL, but he was a fabulous College QB.

And nice for Rees for raising his game after a rough start this season. It was only Purdue, but he brought it none the less.

Good Job Irish!

I'm very pleased with Rees' progression thus far. I had absolute faith in his ability to not only win, but thrive for us. I'm not gonna get too carried away, and I'm sure that he will still have the occasional bad game, but he is here to stay like it or not.

I know I will get **** for starting this thread but I think it is that important. Great game all around, fun to not be on pins and needles. We will win easily over AF.

OK, Tommy Rees. Apparently anything resembling a fade route is entirely out of his repertoire. Additionally passes requiring touch seem to be insanely inaccurate. He is very good on short outs and slants and even screens of all types. The amount of fairly easy TD's that he missed today specifically to MF was just too much to stomach. It is entirely unacceptable. We can get away with it against what I consider to be a bad Purdue team or Air Force but mark my words missing those opportunities against Stanford and USC will **** all of us off.

So, the question is what does BK do? We are playing overall pretty well as a team and we are starting to score. I can't, lie I don't have a perfect answer. This is what I think right now though, watching his touch passes in the red zone is so frustrating I would prefer just running the ball or putting another QB in. It is that bad and it will bite us in the *** if something does not change. Does this deserve it's own thread, to some of you no. My contention to all who just saw what I saw is that TR is wasting some really good opportunities. When the athletes on upper tear teams see this they will play man cover often which will compromise our running game and have break off zones that will marginalize our underneath routes. Essentially forcing us to do what we should easily do well, throwing jump balls accurately to the biggest beast of a WR in the entire nation.
