Actually that statistic isn't necessarily good news. More combine invites means that you are losing more quality people off your football team. Having no combine invites would mean something like you're getting every good player on your team back. So lolling at Michigan might not be the sanest response.

If a good player exhausts his eligibility you want him to be invited to the combine. That doesn't mean your team will drop off or even that position will drop off. Spring, Summer, and Fall are for development. The next guy up could be better than the one leaving.

It's possible that one of our many running backs is better than Riddick or Wood. We'll have to see.

... ? Apparently we are operating in different languages. By definition any player being invited to a combine is a good one and you are losing him. In fact, by definition, he is one of your best guys or he wouldn't have played enough to get invited. It's nice that our guys are successes, but the fact that Michigan ISN'T losing THEIR studs is not good news to me.

No comments were made as to whether you could replace a player or not. It's obvious that the possibility exists that you can replace anyone or there'd be no dynasties. I read nothing in the discussion indicating that the possibility of replacing good players was in doubt, nor even being discussed.

I suppose that this is one of those puzzling IE postings where someone is just looking to argue something even if it's not the point of discussion. If so, I'll concede whatever the point might be and bow out for more congenial areas of the board.

Exactly. You are operating under the assumption that Michigan has players that are good enough to go to the combine that aren't going to the combine(not eligible, coming back for another year, whatever). I'm not. I'm not saying this is true or not, that's the assumption I'm using because at this point they haven't been invited.

Does that help?

Oh and to your last point about bowing out, way to nobly "bow out" after slamming me..... My post wasn't argumentative at all, just stating a different way to view a program having few combine invites. Thanks.

So clearly Minnesota, Duke, and Georgia Tech are set to take over CFB because they are only losing 1 or 2 people to the combine whereas LSU, Alabama, FSU, and Florida are losing all of their people so they are headed to the ash heap of history.

OMM needs a drink.

So ND has 8 heading to the combine. The way Kelly is building this team, the Irish will have people ready to step up and fill the gaps.

Eifert-difficult to replace, but the Irish are strong with Niklas, Koyack, Welch and the freshman.
Cave-ND has depth here and although he has been a stalwart on the line, I believe ND will be fine.
Motta-Spectacular year from him but loads of talent on the depth chart.
Teo-As the leader of the D (and team) this will be the hardest position to fill.
Riddick-Sad to see him go as his running style later in the year was inspiring. However, I'm waiting for ND to uncover that RB who can blossom as a Soph/Junior rather than as a Senior.
Wood-Quality RB. ND has several quality RB is the stable IMO.
KLM-like Eifert and Teo, difficult to replace. His leadership on the D-line was stellar IMO, but with studs behind him like Day and Jones (and whoever the staff moves down to the line), I'm excited for the future.
Slaughter-ND has depth here and I'm excited to see who steps up.

The Irish lose quite a bit, but with the depth on the roster, plenty to be excited about.

Hope these guys tear it up at the combine!

Yes, or it means your program is bankrupt of talent.
